  1. Stay away from the SP-01 in this case. It will limit your mods for IDPA as Rowdy mentioned. A 75 Shadow in 40 is what you want I think based on your wants. You could get it/set it up for SAO, put a magwell on it, and then only change recoil springs for Major/Minor.

  2. I think you should have no problem learning either technique. Decide which divisions you prefer, and train from there. Would you rather trick out the gun with a mag well, etc? Does your state allow high cap mags for Ltd? If so, train to disengage the safety and run it SAO. Would you prefer keeping it "stock" from CZC and stock mags? Then learn the DA first pull. You'll also need to dry fire practice manually lowering the hammer after LAMR for the DA start.

Either way, dry fire is your friend. Whichever you decide, it doesn't require a single live-fire round to get it nailed down.

The good thing about the 75, is that is very versatile and you could run it either way. The downside to running it in Ltd would be scoring minor if it's 9mm.

I just switched to an SP01 Shadow from Mink. I came from an M&P 9 Pro with magwell in ESP/Ltd. I now shoot SSP/Prod. I won't shoot Ltd Minor again. The triggers on these things are so good, the DA first pull isn't very difficult to learn.

Again, dry fire is where you need to learn all of this stuff. Sure, go shoot the thing since its your new toy, but dry fire is where you should be ingraining the technique that you choose.

  3. From what I have found/read, Mecgar does not sell individual mag parts. It sucks. You can order factory CZ locking plates and buy the CZ base pads from Springer. That will add $5 per mag to get what you want though.

It may be cheaper to buy new Mecgar 17rd mags from Cote, buy the Mecgar bases from Springer, and sell the 19 rounders complete.

  4. Oh, and the persons asking about moving around on squads, in the past I've had luck emailing people directly and asking. I just stalk their info off the idpa websight.

Yeah, I've already figured that out, thanks. No luck unfortunately. No biggie.

  5. No, not in factory form anyways. The finger cutout on the bullet nose side of the pouch violates rule 8.6.2.4, although rule 8.6.1.4 says that carriers may be modified to meet IDPA rules.

So, one could get creative and make it work I think. As long as you can mount it to pass the 3/4" dowel test, and cover the entire outer face, then yeah. That's how I see it anyway.

  6. Anyone lurking out there a single shooter on squad 31 or 32? I'm throwing it out there to see if I can find someone on either squad willing to swap with me or a buddy. We weren't able to get the same squad earlier today. If so, please contact me and we'll figure out how to coordinate it. Thanks!

  7. Thanks for the info. I will be flying, most likely via Newark. I also travel to Delaware via Philly and have taken my stuff with me there with no hassles. I understand and am comfortable with the TSA/flying portion, I'm most concerned to get some clarification on Jersey itself. I'm flying in, staying at a hotel for three weeks, and would transport the gun with 10rd mags to and from the match/hotel only.

  8. I'm going to north Jersey for three weeks on business. Turns out there are plenty of matches around that I could shoot while I'm there. Can I legally take my SS minor rig there? If so, is it with the hassle?

I will be in a hotel. I can definitely adhere to a point to point itinerary with the gun. Is it possible in this scenario?

  9. Why not put a lighter recoil spring in it, at least, until it's broken in ???

I'm running an assortment of 10rd magazines. Some of them, Tripps and ETMs, are tight with 10 rounds. 10lb recoil spring is as light as I can go and have it reliably strip the top round from a slide lock reload and go into full battery. Any lighter and the top round will interfere with the slide. Dawson/Metalform mags have more room in them, but don't lock back on empty as reliably. I'll just have to be creative regarding which mags to use when.

My prior standard 3.4gr N320 147gr recipe will not cycle the gun with a 12lb Wolff recoil spring.

  10. Did some testing today. First time with my Pro Chrono Digital. I've been running 147gr Xtreme RN with 3.3-3.4gr N320 at 1.145 for a year or so. I checked them with my buddy's chrono back then and left it alone. I've recently started running a Dan Wesson PM9 in SS Minor and ESP. This thing is sweet, but I'm having trouble getting the slide velocity I need to beat the recoil spring I need to run in order to reliably strip the top round from slide lock. It's a fine balance and I've had to start experimenting with new ammo combos to try and get the slide moving faster to see if that helps. I already run an oil for lube. Tried Slide Glide Lite, but the gun is so nice and tight that it affects the operation.

Anyway, I grabbed some Berry's 124 RN-DS bullets and some Ramshot Competition powder, along with the 147 Xtremes and N320 that I already had. I made up a few recipes based on the mfgrs data and lots of data here on the site. I didn't bother trying the RS Comp under the 147gr bullet. I didn't figure I'd be able to get nearly the oomph I needed without going way over the max load. I'll take a few photos of the fired primers and post them.

  11. Just got a Trojan myself. Dawson/Metalform mags are the ticket for me. I can't get Tripps to feed the first round from slide-lock because they're so damned tight to fit 10. The light recoil spring for the minor load isn't enough to send the slide to full battery when the rounds are in there so tight. Otherwise, it's all tuned up and not a feeding/firing problem in 900 rounds so far.
