Looks like a good amount of Master and Grand Master level shooters at the Production Nationals. And, I know of a half dozen or more from my general area that weren't there.

From the Open Nats:
There were 281 folks in open with 35 GM (12.5%) and 59 M (20%)
There were 145 folks in prod with 16 GM (11%) and 26 M (17.9%)
Pretty close to the same ratios.
Excellent analysis Chuck! Considering the fact that this division is relatively new, the numbers are just about equal. "Production division" certainly seems to be a success for USPSA. (for the record it has been the main division I have shot for some time & I really enjoy it).

Will Solo make major in 40's? I've read about Solo but it seems most use for minor pf... I've been looking into trying other powders but the availability and new higher prices gave me second thoughts about buying just to test.
Why sure it will! It is on the charts as making major in 40 - even with 180s. Solo is my main powder nowadays.

We had to use these calls a lot last match with a new shooter, so much so that the guy who brought him to the match expressed his embarrasment & promised to "work with him." Fact was, this new shooter clearly did not understand safe gun handling (though he thought he did), and he probably would not have understood a DQ. IF he had actually crossed the line, I would have DQ'd him. As is, he clearly got the message from us & we expect that message will be reinforced off the range by his friend. I see it as a win-win situation.
Problem seems to be from what I take it are over-zelous ROs out there yelling MUZZLE! at experienced folks just because they get to be in charge. Is that what you all have seen at your range?
I would rather warn than DQ.....That said, I give very few warning to good shooters.
For the new shooter (we get first timers a lot) it's a bit of on the job training. I don't trust thier skills and run them very close and tight. I'm also more vocal with these shooters and will tell them at the before LAMR that I may give them direction within the COF.

I am not qualified to diagnose "OCD" (above my pay grade).
But I believe it is a case of "monkey see, monkey do" after seeing a top monkey (eg TJ) doing that at a match.
Nothing wrong with shooters doing this little dance as long as they keep it reasonable.

I have started to wonder about my cases or rather the condition of my cases. I use a Lee FCD and it smears bullet lube over the length of the case during the sizing. I can feel the lube on the case and it's like having a lubed case in the mag. I'm wondering if that is not contributing to the loaded cases slipping through the lips? But if that is the case, why only when the mag's sping tension is at it's lowest?
I guess I'll be able to eliminate some of these questions once my mag springs and the 17# recoil spring arrives...
You do not shoot a Tanfoglio - so you likely missed Henning's excellent tutorial on case preparation for reliability. sorry i dont have a link right now.

Potential problem here is: U.S. citizens exporting the lower out of the US. Many citizens are not aware that exports of many seemingly common items might fall under the control of "defense export" regulations. I believe all firearms are so controlled. Violations can be severly punished - and are taken far more seriously than they were before 9/11. Best check into this first.

I understand that many folks are tricking out thier 556's by buying 550 lowers and grafting them to the 556 upper. If you are considering this conversion, odds are you can find a buyer for the lower in Canada.We can't import the 556, but we do get a version of the older 540 using all the 550 furniture. (The 550 is prohibited in Canada)
Since the 556 was marketed as a varient of the 550, we can't get it up here. However, the upper is the registered part up here and everything els is just parts.
Frankly, that would be fine with most as many prefer the origional. However, we do have a large interest in the 556 because it takes AR-15 mags. The origional Sig mags are excellent, but up here we can only get them pinned to 5 rounds. We can get legal 10 round AR-15 mags, and to many that makes a world of difference.
If you find yourself with a spare 556 lower, you will likely find a buyer up north.

TOXICOLOGY CONSIDERATIONS:
1) Peroxide + vinegar + lead = LEAD ACETATE - WHICH IS A HIGHLY TOXIC SUBSTANCE AND A HAZARDOUS WASTE PRODUCT. It is easily absorbed through your skin. Very dangerous stuff to be avoided at all costs. Besides, it can likely pit your barrel. But the lead does get disolved - that is true.
2) "Moly coating" includes plastic & other ingredients. Upon firing, those chemicals are burned, and just after "Range Clear" is called, we walk right through a cloud of that chemical smoke. I do no know WHAT effect that chemical smoke has on the body long term.
Lead in general: I am not "anti-lead"; I use it and I RO a monthly match where lead and moly are used. What lead demands is: cleanliness. High lead counts come from "ingestion" or eating the lead. We manage to "eat lead" when we fail to wash our face right after the match, or eat with our hands after a match (for the record - I use a knife & fork on pizza -always, due to lead). You have to be careful around lead - but it is easy to do & effective (my last blood count was around 10 ppb/d.l. and I have never gone over 13).
I ruined a CZ Barrel . . . with proxide and vinegar it got pitted. Maybe it was only rated for 14 minutes soaking instead of 15. -
I agree with you - the magsprings are probably not worn out. The Glock 10 rounders were better than most and my old ones work just fine without ever having the spring replaced or even cleaned for that matter - they were the ONLY Glock mags I had for my Glock 17 for many years during the bad old days of the AWB (AND REMEMBER THAT IT IS STILL THE BAD OLD DAYS FOR OUR USPSA BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN MANY STATES SO KEEP THEM IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AND TRY TO BE UNDERSTANDING SINCE ITS NOT THEIR FAULT- ok i feel better now).
Whew! Anyway, if the rounds are actually popping out of the mag the feedlips, then they are definitly out of spec. Are you sure it is not just a double-feed with an otherwise-good mag?
Glock is good about replacing mags that let rounds pop out. If the mags are bad, you might ask Glock for help.
Personally, I think your aftermarket barrel is out of spec in some dimension and you should simply put the stock barrel back it.

No idea if these are good or not BUT you can find a review on a (Australian?) IPSC site who compared these to other Production guns.
Google it by its original name: "Grand Power K100" It is made in Slovakia I believe. Its rotating barrel design has been used previously by the Mauser M2 and certain Beretta models (couger??). Seems to work. Dunno if it offers an advantage.

I'm surprised there weren't more XDs.
The XD has a very high bore axis (like a Sig). It won't stop one from winning, it only makes it a tad tougher to do.
Glock has a lower bore axis. M&P is lower still (like a HK P9/P13 or a Steyr). And the trigger is excellent from the box with short reset. And the grip shape is adjustable.
Not surprised to see the rise of the M&P.

One of our local shooters informed me that he is headed to this IPSC match.
By coincidence, I happened to put some Classic (i.e. - targets commonly used in IPSC aka the turtle target) into last night's match.
Match designers: if you have folks going to the Ohio IPSC, consider adding these to your next USPSA club shoot. The targets present a different visual experience, and to my eye the "appear" further away than they otherwise would. Getting your shooters accustomed to these targets might be valuable.
Interesting claim I heard about the Classic (dunno if its true): the A-zone covers the same square area as our usual USPSA A-zone.
Either way, my perception is that the Classic target is overall tougher (points wise) than the USPSA. Perhaps added emphasis on accuracy is called for.

I agree with that part - and it makes me wonder if maybe some of the brass you are finding has been fired through a blow-back submachinegun? I understand that some subguns can be tough on 9mm brass.

Probably get a whole lot LESS smoke from Solo 1000 than Unique. Plus, you will use LESS Solo, so a pound of powder will go a lot further.

"Range Brass"
It might have been reloaded MORE than 20 times. How would I know? I used to work at Phil Strader's old store/range: Shooters Paradise (long gone; burned down).
We sold "commercial reloads" (I won't say what company) to customers and often it was bought by people who rented our guns. Almost all the brass fired at that range was collected & given right back to the "commercial reloader" - to be loaded again. And again. And again.
It was a closed, endless loop or re-cycled brass. The commercialy reloaded brass stayed IN the loop until it cracked (the company had some sort of inspection process) or until someone bought the ammo and used it elsewhere - like YOUR range.
Without knowing the source of your brass, there is a possibility that you will get really USED UP brass in the mix.
OP - the one thing I see that you could change is: increase the OAL to 1.150" Glocks feed BETTER with longer loaded ammo & your pressure will go DOWN (less chance of KB). Winchester's White Box is about 1.160" - so an OAL of 1.150" will work fine.

It is, actually, more for the appearance. . .
The manufacturers of nickel-plated shells often advertise with the argument that the shells have a reduced pull-out opposition.
Whether this is right, I do not know.
Anyway the shells are lighter and quicker to clean.
For IPSC shooters this would be, however, a possibility to find again own shells after the match.

I too have noticed that many manufacturers of ammo for police (and for those with concealed-handgun permits) use nickel-plated brass cases.
Apparently, the manufacturers believe that there is a benefit to nickel-plating. I do not know if the benefit is: 1) less resistance in extracting the fired shell or 2) less resistance while stripping it from the magazine & feeding into the chamber or 3) maybe resistance to corrosion??
A 4th possibility might be: marketing.
In any event, I really enjoy such articles about how to "do-it-yourself".

So I'm thinking about a 9x23 upper for my Witness Match .45...what would be the best way to go about it?
Should I get a factory conversion kit in 38 Super or 9mm and ream it out or get a new barrel? What caliber mags would work best?
Would it be better to wait for Henning's barrel/uppers? Henning, if I should wait, do you have an ETA on that project? (not meaning to be pushy!) Will a longslide barrel/slide for the Match be in the works, or would it be better to get a Hunter model for this? I wouldn't mind 6" if I could get one, but the standard length would be great too.
I've also heard of many people just firing 9x23 in their Witness 38 Supers. Is this safe?
38 super is supposed to be a straight-walled case with a rim larger than 9mm. 9x23 is supposed to be a tapered case. I use the words "supposed to be" because manufacturers often fudge the dimensions in practice.
If you want it done right, the first time, the safe bet is to wait for Henning. If you can not wait, then I personally would try to order a 9mm conversion for your large frame Tanfo (you said it is .45 so I know it is large frame) and ream it to 9x23 with the CORRECT reamer.

I agree with the others: it is more likely an ammo problem so polishing won't help. BUT, you seem determined to try it anyway so here you go:

FWIW, a few years back a shooter was practicing, their gun dropped, they caught it by the trigger, it fired and killed them. Not a good scene. Learn to let it drop.
I have to agree 100%. The instinct you must develop is to learn to let even that $3000 custom open gun smash to the floor. Please, do it for our sake, if not for yours. Here is what happens (or worse) negligent discharge in real life:

I took an Open Glock to a GSSF in Georgia once & used 9Major loads; the RO/SO nearly jumped out of his skin the first time the gun went off!
"Ah thought yo' gun blowed-up!" he told me.
Nice folks at GSSF; I have a lot of happy memories of the shoots we went to.
Solo 1000 with 115gr MG
in 9mm/38 Caliber

My dillon reloader has not been accessible for more than a year now (long story).
BUT I just happened to find some 115 MGs (RN) that I loaded over 4.1grns of Solo 1000 some years back; had to use it in my Glock 17 at the match the other night as I am running out of reloaded ammo.
Shot accurately and on point of aim for 125 PF loads & recoil was pleasant enough.
No, I am not switching to 115s (I like heavier minor loads) but this load performed just fine.
