  1. I loaded 147gr with 3.3gr of N320 at 1.135 last week. Huge difference between those and the 115/124 grainers. The muzzle blast is so low and it almost felt like a .22.

    Me likey!

    try N340 too...with the 147's..

  2. My experience with SS media... my brass develops sharp necks that makes my Dillon powder funnel sticks with the brass and PIB to fight the reloader to free it...and I dry mine on top of my floors registers ( when the furnace are on or outside when the weather is fine )

  3. If your ordering a 650 in 9mm, you get everything you need press wise in 9mm except for dies. But you may want to look into getting the Powder Check system. It is tough to set up, but it could save your butt in the long run especially if you leave the press setup in a single caliber.

Thanks! I considered a powder check system, but in a couple months i want to add a bullet feeder which would take its spot. Why should i not get the dies?

What he means is that some people would want different brand of dies so thats why when you order from dillon, dies are not considered as part of it. you have to order it separate.

  4. 1st, you don't need a crimp die...the 3 die set comes with a crimp die

2nd, you need a 9mm adapter/kit for the case feeder...( I don't know if you buy a case feeder with the the whole set up from the get go if it is included.

3rd, you might want to add a bullet tray..

and buy it from Brian...same price with free shipping and supporting this forum.

    PM Brian...

  5. I am going to play odd man here. I too, have loaded on the 550 for years. I love the simplicity of the machine, and have not had a double charge. I moved up to the 650 with the case feeder and ran it for a few months. I was working up a new load and moved back to the 550 for this task. It was I came back to an old friend. For me, there are benifits to the 550. It is very easy to clear a problem, and the primer system is much better in my opinion. The speed also amazed me. With the 550, it takes me about 10 minutes to charge the machine with primers and make 100 rounds. The times with the 650 were simular for me. I understand that you do pick up a station with the 650,which I used for a powder checker. I still looked into every case prior to placing a bullet on top.

To make a long story short. I recently sold the 650, and if I do buy a second press, it will be a 550. As they say..........to each is own.

for the money you save from getting the 550, buy the case feeder for the 550....it will speed up the loading process to almost the 650....

  6. the reason they included a firing pin spring is that typically a spring life is about 3 to 5k... so when you replace the recoil spring they recommend to replace the firing pin spring too....do you have a series 80 system in your gun? I always replace my recoil and firing pin springs before my first range session and 3 to 5k afterwards...both my Limited got fresh springs. they run flawless...even replaced my main spring with 15 for minor and 17 for major loads...my DP extended pins are my backup and always in my shooting bag.

  7. Skip,

I think thats the same problem I'm encountering with my 550...maybe you have 550 that you can do too...

I have a 550B but it is manual indexing press. I do remember having trouble with the last round hanging on exit but I have not used it in a long time. Is this what you are fighting or do they make an auto indexing version?

My problem was with my brass feeder...after it resize the brass get the second kick by the plastic feeder, when you do it a little faster it will kick the brass and bounce out of alignment...the principle is almost the same, it has a rail where the roller for the feeder ride...when I stroke the handle slowly it would not kick the brass out of alignment...so I think it needs a smoother angle like what you did...

  8. I had some problems with my 550 and casefeeder when loading .40 myself...

I wound up loosening the center bolt on the star 1/2 turn from tight. I don't have to run

it that loose on any other caliber. But it works well for .40

    See if that helps.

    Take care,

    Dave

tried it and it became worst...tighten it to just enough to turn and it minimize...i have to slow down my down stroke(of the shaft) so it would not slam the brass...

  9. That is typical. Take the shell plate off and remove the silver ball bearing. Take the spring from under it and trim one coil off . This will help with the problem but usually will not totally eliminate it on cases that are 3/4 full. You can drag your finger on the edge of the shell plate to stop it also.

That's one of the reason I opted just to upgrade my 550 with a case feeder...My system usually turn the shell plate first before putting the bullet but with my 9mm i have to put the bullet first before I turn..so no spillage....but if i'm loading for 40 or 45 only, i would prefer the 650...
