  1. I agree. Bobby Carver builds the best open Glocks out there. the Carver mount with the CR Speed modified holster works great. Check the classifieds here. There are always guys selling Glock gear there.

You currently having several for sale makes that sound like an utterly shameless plug, no?
Post was meant purely as a joke. I DO however think Carver builds the best open Glocks out there. I just don't think they're for me. Shameless plug? I can see it being seen that way, but that was not my intent. I shoulda posted a smiley face after the last sentence I guess.
  2. Skill will come with practice and experience glad ya diggin the blaster how'd you do?

I was rushing everything so not as well as I should have. I've gotta get used to the 2011 platform. Coming from Glocks to something like a 2011 is a huge (and very much welcome) change. I like the 2011 so much I decided to sell my open and limited Glocks and buy another one. Some guns are built with competition in mind, like the 2011, some are built for "tactical use" like the Glock. I'm glad I finally figured out which to use where. :)

  4. Hello: I use lots of different base pads. They all work well but some are easier to remove than others for cleaning. I would try some different ones to see how they fit your hands and what you like. Also look at what the ground surface is like in your area. If it is grass most will work well. Rocks and sand you may want to use something different. Aluminum base pads get dented and plastic ones may break. The sand may also effect how easily you can remove the mag base pad for cleaning. Thanks, Eric

I never thought about....well.....any of that. LOL

    Thanks!!! Good lookin out. :)

  5. I run stock basepads on 140mm, they fit my hand better when I reload. I don't see the need for higher capacity in 140s. If I need more that 20, I just use the 170. Spend the money on getting the most capacity out of the 170

I totally agree. I'm gonna send Grams a 170 next week.
  6. I just got back from the range. I shot my 2 140's with Grams guts and Dawson pads. I modified my followers last night to prevent slide lock. Today my mags were extremely reliable, they had no issues whatsoever. I'm shooting a local match tomorrow, I'm not gonna say they're 100% good to go until they last through that. If they do then I'd say they'll be fine. We'll see.

  7. How did you like the SSS mount? The 4 stabilizing screws looks like it would keep the platform very stable.

It was very stable. Like I said the gun shot great, no issues. Now ask me if I'd trade the 2011 that I sold this one to buy for it. NOPE. LOL ;)
  8. Yeah I may have to sell it because it's too much time for me to learn a new gun.

And hey, I have a hi point and it surprisingly is reliable...so far. Hope I didn't jinx it.

Have you ever shot a M&P? A M&P with an Apex trigger is awesome. I went from Glock to M&P and more recently to a 2011. After learning to shoot the Glock the other two were easy. Kind of like driving a Ford Escort without power steering then driving a Ford Mustang with power steering then finally driving a Lamborghini. :)
  9. I'm looking for some 9mm major data using powders others than AutoComp for use in a "Shorty". I have some HS6 on hand along with some WSF. And I have easy access to everything out there with the exception of VV 3N37 and N320. My WAC loads work so this isn't an emergency situation or anything. I'm just interested what some of the rest if you are running in your "Shorty" open guns.

  10. So anyone out there just running stock magazines with factory basepads? Since I've been in "re-purchase everything" mode, examining what may or may not be a luxury vs. a necessity.... I've always used the Dawson pads in the past. Did I mention you should NEVER sell off all your stuff in case you change your mind and decide to come back and shoot?!?!?!

    -Mike

I ran a stock STI 170mm mag and a backup 126mm last weekend in a local match. Two words....never again. Ya know how guys on here say there mags worked flawlessly? Well those two mags worked flawfully. LOL The two I have with grams guts and Dawson +1 bases ran much better.
  11. All that's left to do besides finding someone to tune my mags is a trigger job (I'd like to get it down to 2#), having the trigger guard undercut, having the frame textured, refinishing the grip, and maybe adding a racker. :)

I'd suggest the Dawson tuning kit to help you work your mags unless you're looking for exotic capacity. It won't make 31 round 170s but I've had great success making reliable reloadable 28 170s and 23 140s (Dawson +1 and SNLs respectively) with ease. -424D57
I'm definitely not worried about a couple extra rounds. If I can get the normal capacity and get the mags to run reliably I'll be happy.
  12. Hey guys thanks for the help!!! I FINALLY nutted up and broke out the dremel. That issue is now fixed.

I only did one though, I've got a bunch of extra springs and followers on the way so if this one works I'll repeat the same mods on the others. If not I guess I'll have an extra spring if I need it. The slide definitely isn't locking back, question now is will the mag still feed reliably. Only one way to find out!!! I'll report back after my range trip tomorrow. :)

  13. I guess I'm an anomoly. I haven't ever had issues with Texas stars. I just shoot them, I don't worry about them bring the "dreaded Texas star". I get psyched out by long shots at stationary targets. Those are my Texas stars.

  14. I FINALLY got my STI MatchMaster set up the way I want. I really appreciate all the help you guys have given me getting this project off the ground. It's definitely been a journey with a pretty large learning curve, especially for a guy that's used to shooting open with a Glock. I bought a STI MatchMaster from the guys at Shooters Connection, I then found out I would have to replace all the internals in the 140mm mag I had and do the same for the complete 170mm 9mm mag I bought from Top Gun supply. So I ordered the parts for two 140mm mags (STI 140mm tubes, Dawson +1 basepads, Grams guts, SC Hardy spacers) in an attempt to learn how to tune my mags. I'm still working on this particular issue. I also found out that I needed to change my extractor due to my brass hitting the mount that came with the gun, so I did, I got an Aftec and installed it. Then in an attempt to further cure my ejection issue I bought a Cheely 90 degree mount, which I couldn't use because it was about .00001 from my slide. I finally settled on a Cheely RTS mount and I am EXTREMELY happy with it. It's been a learning process to say the least, but I'm extremely happy I did it.

So since all you guys have been helping me a figured the least I could do was share a pic or two with you and tell you what I ended up doing to my gun. I have a Dawson lo-pro mag button coming to replace the Ed Brown I have on currently, a Dawson ext firing pin, a 5" STI guiderod, a STI reverse plug (5"), a Dawson Shock buff, and some ISMI springs (7,8,9). I decided to change from the RecoilMaster to a standard RSA, I figured that would allow me to further tune the gun to my loads plus the RecoilMaster is a pain in the butt to deal with. It's easier to change springs than to change your entire RSA. I also have (or have on the way) 3 140mm tubes and 1 170mm tube, Grams springs and followers (1 13 coil, 3 11 coil), 4 Dawson +1 basepads (not SNL), and Hardy spacers (1 170, 3 140's).

So, what do you guys think? Without taking into account my mags still need tuned what do y'all think about the gun? Anything I should know or is there anything you guys suggest?

Thanks again for all your help!!!! :)
