  1. Was that you in "Last Tango in Paris"? Dang, talk about an obscure reference! Chuck, I think that comment went right over the heads of these young bucks. If Carmoney only knew! Hope to see you at our match. Jay
  2. Was that you in "Last Tango in Paris"?
  3. Gender specificity? We're letting Mike shoot aren't we?
  4. Jon, Each steel stage will be 5 plates (or fewer); maximum (if you don't miss) of 5 shots per stage. There will be no knock-down plates (i.e. plate racks). Some of the stages will be similar to those at The Steel Challenge (Craig and Phillip would be real disappointed if there was no Smoke and Hope) and some will be of our invention. Our steel has vertical adjustment so we might come up with some stages you haven't seen. Hope that helps. Jay Tappe
  5. Private response to shooterdoc: Interesting take on things, considering that pretty much everybody knows that an optical sight on a revolver is one of the strongest indicators of homosexual proclivity. In fact, the optics award really should be called the "Queen of Revo" trophy. Man, you jumped on that like a catfish to stinkbait. You are so damned easy (at least that's what Cliff tells me).
  6. We'll use the regular "low ready" start position, no holster will be needed for the rimfire match. Mike, I thought we had a rule that Minnesotans are only allowed to shoot weakhanded. And match fees are doubled. What about that tax for allowing them into Iowa?
  7. Sam C.: "Tell Craig dream on." loser wears a dress and bra to next OOPS match. And, we get to take pictures and post them!
  8. Tom, The idea is to have 2 matches (optics and iron sights) run in parallel over 3 days. There will be a big trophy for optics "King of Revo" and a smaller one for pussies who want to shoot iron sights (iron sights "King of Revo") given Sunday afternoon. "King of Revo" trophies will be given to the best aggregate scores for all 3 days (ya gotta shoot optics or iron sights, choose one, all three days to be eligible for the trophies). Plaques will be given for the winners of the x17 matches, the winners of the Open matches (Saturday) and for the winners of the Limited matches (Sunday). Specific (hopefully) answer to your question: yes, you can shoot your open gun on Saturday and your usual 625 (no optics, right?) on Sunday but you will be eligible only for plaques, not for a King of Revo trophy. You must put an optic on the 625 (and shoot an x17 with an optical sight on Friday) to be eligible for open King of Revo trophy. Hope that helps. Jay Tappe
  9. I want to set up my new 1050 this weekend. I have many pounds of VV N310. I need a starting point (grains of powder and O.A.L.) for a major power load using MG 180s. Thanks.
  10. Patrick, What drills/techniques are you going to use to increase speed of your reloads? Thanks
  11. Byron, I shoot revos with the first pad of my finger on the trigger. I also shoot a lot of single action semiauto (often both guns at the same match). I find it easier to use the same finger position for both types of guns. I wonder of Kenny, Barney and Dwight do the same (they all shoot semiauto and revo). I will ask next time I see them. Eight or nine years ago (you were still in diapers) I went down to Jerry’s place and shot with him for a couple of days. We talked some about sight picture. I and I think he (at least at that time) see circular/semicircular movement of the front sight during the trigger pull if we hold the gun on one target. Since that is what he saw I just accepted it as “the” way to shoot revolvers. This may be an issue in bullseye shooting but during most IPSC courses of fire and shooting steel I don’t see this movement. It is “lost” during the trigger prep of the draw and preparation of the trigger during transition from target to target. Mike’s way probably is better (he has shot way more revo than I) but the first pad on the trigger works o.k. for me. Come shoot steel Sunday. Great way to practice revo shooting. Mike, You should add Skip Ahern to your list. Is this revo heaven? No, Iowa.
  12. O.K., Mike/Shred, this catfish'll take the bait. 1) I do not have experience with a barrel that short (don't you love the innuendo); what is accuracy versus a 5" or 6" barrel? 2) Are speedloaders available? 3) Would you go with a JP, Optima, Docter, C-More or a tube? Maybe I should go with a Weaver mount so I can experiment; do you think overall height of site would be too high with this setup?
  13. Hmmm, I wonder why JM hasn't thought of that. Shred, are you a barrel whacker???
  14. Let's take this perfect idea one more step. What would be your perfect revolver for shooting steel (open class)? Who would build it? Why? What caliber? What frame material (i.e. stainless steel, scandium)? What cylinder material (i.e. stainless steel, titanium)? Would you use the stock barrel or rebarrel it; whose barrel? What barrel length? Bull, slab, fluted or radically lightened barrel? Ports/comp. or not? What kind of action/dependability work? Whose spring kit? How much would it weigh? What optical sight? Whose mount? Stock or custom cylinder release? Whose grips? What bullet brand and weight?
  15. I see JM is having S&W build him a scandium-framed .38 super N frame for steel shooting. Anybody know if/when they will be available to the disciples?
  16. Thanks for the suggestions r.e. my 625. I went with RPM8SHOT's suggestion. Perfect fix! I am now ready to stomp Carmoney's butt at our next IPSC shoot! You da man, RPM. Round Gun, thanks for the link to Weigand's front sight. That would have been my next choice. George D and Carmoney, bullet change is a good idea but I want to use the same bullet in my revolver and 1911; 230 gr works best for me. Thanks again.
  17. Just purchased a 625 PC. Groups decent but all shots are 6" high of point of aim (@ 20 yards) even with rear sight all the way down. I tried factory ball ammo, a jacketed reload and a lead reload; all shoot high. I have 2 other 625s ("non-PC") that shoot to point of aim. I am using the same grips, same ammo and same moon clips on all guns. Potential causes? Solutions? Thanks.
  18. Mike, 5 year old information: NEXLOAD speed loader. "CNC machined from solid aircraft grade 6061-T651 aluminum. 303 stainless steel internal components, no plastic parts." $33 apiece. Buckeye Tool and Mfg. Corp. P.O. Box 471 Columbia Station, OH 44028 440 236 9854
