Makes sense! Yeah I think I’m going to narrow my testing down to A#7 which creates a lot of gas but is dirty, Longshot which I am already using, and 3N38 which has a good reputation for being clean while working comps and popples well.

I think I'm going to stay with your first 2 picks. Longshot will be my backup powder.

Yes AA#7 has alot of greyish smoke out of my comp and popple holes. But its the first powder that I actually feel the gas on my face when shooting it. Its the flattest load Ive messed with to date.

This is me messing with HS6, autocomp, 3N38, true blue, Silhouette, LongShot and now AA#7.

Yeah seems super gassy, I might end up using 3N38 or sticking with Longshot

Yeah it makes a ton of gas. Isnt that what you want to work the comp. The more the gas the better ???

Ive used AA#7 ever since the beginning of this year and with popple holes for the past couple months ... it has really flatten and out both my main gun and back up.

Main gun is nose heavy and my back up is alot more balance. But I prefer my main gun because its alot more flatter with AA#7 and softer.

I just ordered some No. 7 to try, might use it when I get my MPA which has 4 popples plus the comp and continue to use LS with my Czechmate

The AA#7 is dirty with popple holes ... I think with an island barrel itll be cleaner.

  4. One of my favorite powders. Its my back up powder if I cant get my hands on AA#7 but I load 7.6grs of longshot ( versus 10grs of #AA7) 1.165" behind a 124gr bullet for 9mm major.

I prefer AA#7 because it mak was alot more gas with 2 ( 3/16") popple holes its flat. Longshot is LOUD and decently flat with out the popple holes.

LongShot has been sitting for 6months since AA#7 has been plentiful in stock.

  5. Since this powder has been on the shelves and plentiful in stock.

I tried this and found 10grs for 9mm major with 124jhp Precision Delta V2. Makes 175pf in my back up gun with a KKM 16" twist barrel with 2 ( 3/16" ) popple holes and 173pf in my main gun with a SV 24" twist barrel without no popple holes. The one with popple holes is very very flat with a 7lb stabdard recoil spring.

Found it to be very dirty with the 2 popple holes. And alot cleaner in the one without popple holes. Found a ton of corn flakes in the one with 2 popple holes. I think the solution is to maybe use a island barrel instead of having normal barrel with popple holes. I'll hopefully have my 3rd open gun to report if its dirty with the island barrel. when its done getting built by 1911 Speed Shop in Riverside sometime next year.

I don't really think it matters, I've had guns setup both ways.

In theory maybe farther back empty brass is less likely to hit the optic and bounce back in. But, a well setup gun that shouldn't happen. Back farther might not get as dirty, again not really a big deal.

So there no difference between forward and rear in dot movement or dot tracking ???

Im planning on buying this. My steel challenge guns are all 2MOA green circle +dots, I don’t like red dots as much (I feel they get washed out more easily in non-ideal conditions). This would be the first big MOA (2+8MOA circle, which my astigmatism will turn into a dot overall lol) big window green dot offering I believe

you like the green dot ... how do you deal with the dot being washed out in grass/ green back stops ???

  8. Ive been lucky with

    BNB 124gr 1.120oal and 3.4grs of E3 w/ Remington SRP about 145pf

BNB 135gr 1.120oal and 3grs of E3 w/ Remington SRP about 143pf ( this one is super soft and accurate... dot hardly moves )

this is out of a 14.5" JP stainless steel barrel

  9. We've all have mess up ... rounds with no primer or bullets upside down, or loaded a case thats cracked... Or pulled bullets from rounds we've picked up at the range.

I know I can reused the primer and some of the brass ...

but what do we do with the used powder ??? I have a little container of mixed powder ... What do you guys do or what can we use the mixed powder for ... Ive used the mixed powder to start little fire camp fire... what else can it be used for ???

  10. Ive used titegroup, n320, ramshot comp, solo1000, hp38 and wst ...

out of all of them N320 was my favorite for a while but was expensive and disappeared on the selves. And found out the Ramshot Comp and E3 is alot cheaper and softer...

9mm 135gr 3.5grs of N320 vs 3.3grs of Ramshot Comp vs 3.2grs of E3 ... E3 is the softest out of all of them and is very accurate but seems to like being alittle compressed because the diviation tightens up as you do ...

so morale of the story is;  get what ever powder your wallet can afford to maintain... hehehehehe I like E3 cheap and soft and accurate

ps. I used a bunch of N320, Ramshot Comp, WST and still have about 40lbs of E3

I'm curious about the TC of .371" you mentioned. That's .005" smaller than I typically crimp 9mm. Was that a typo or actual dia at the case-mouth after TC?

Thats actual diameter after the crimping station.

I use a LEE FCD and Ive always used 0.371 - 0.372 as my crimp. Tried a looser crimp before but it didnt have good results.
