Check out the Steve Anderson (Anderson Shooting) books, "Refinement and Repetition" and "Principles of Performance". There are a ton of drills in there that will help with your draw to first shot.
Here's a video of him working with a student one on one. Steve has helped a LOT of shooters in this area.

I'm reloading .40 for about 16 cents per round and that's buying bullets. Atlanta Arms is about 47 cents per round for their "USAMU Action Pistol Team STI" ammo, and that's before shipping.
Do the math based on how much you shoot and you'll discover how quickly that xl650 would pay off. Having nice guns is awesome, but being able to shoot well enough to be competitive in competition is even better, and that takes practice. And practice takes ammo.
I'm with the other guys...if you want to do this competition thing, buy a press. Won't take much space (I helped a buddy set one up in the bedroom in his apartment), so I'm sure you can solve that part.

Yep, I'm a southpaw.
I don't care for the look of the stippling, but other than that the rest of the pistol is the best looking 2011 I've ever seen.
It's not stippled, it's an abrasive substance adhered to the grip. It's the perfect level of grip for me without being so aggressive that it tears up my hands (my backup STI eagle is stippled and it's hard on my hands). Thank you though!

Given the OP's screen name, I find this thread somewhat ironic.
6.4.4 An individual may be barred from participating in a USPSA match, at the match director’s discretion, if the person:
a. has demonstrated an inability to safely complete courses of fire, or
b. has demonstrated behavior which would or may disrupt the match, or which would bring disrepute to the sport.6.4.5 A Match Director enforcing Rule 6.4.4 must submit a detailed report to USPSA within seven days of the occurrence.
6.5It' a judgement call that has to be made by the MD as to whether or not a shooter can safely complete the course of fire.

This is an administrative issue, IMO. If someone is a chronic slacker, it needs to be brought to the attention of the MD who has authority over the match. The MD should speak to the shooter and clarify the expectation that all shooters participate in pasting and resetting for squad-mates. If he continues to slack, he should be barred from shooting at the club again, or for a period of time.

What does the written stage briefing say? Would seem standard practice for MD's of indoor matches to include that any shot not striking the backstop is an unsafe shot.

2 thoughts:
1. *Never stop yourself unless it's a safety issue*
2. There is only one case where a re-shoot is "offered" to a competitor, and that is per 8.6.4, RO interference. In all other cases, a competitor is "required" to reshoot the course of fire. Refusal to re-shoot will result in a zero for the stage.
Think of it this way: If you hit a steel plate and it spins 90 degrees but doesn't fall, do you stop yourself? Nope, either the RO stops you or your complete the CoF and then address the REF after the fact.
If the RO didn't stop the shooter in either of those cases you mentioned and offer a re-shoot, he's not really doing his job, IMO.

I cannot see how you could consider the Battlecat's barrel design a "comp", it has no active recoil reduction to it. It's just a barrel weight.

This is what I do too, particularly the back of my strong hand/fingers, so my weak hand fingers aren't slipping around.
The Pro Grip works well, almost too well. It does what it claims to do, no issues there.
I agree with the "too well" part. It's so grippy for me that it makes it hard to adjust my grip if I don't get a perfect grip on the gun coming out of the holster. I prefer to just dry my hands and maybe pick up a little dirt/gravel right before I step to the line..

6 shots at 25 yards - no time limit. Smallest group possible is the goal.
Edited to add: standing / freestyle shooting position.
I took a two day class with Frank Garcia and we did this drill a LOT. Very valuable in terms of learning trigger prep and sight awareness.

I have a Springfield XD that does NOT like Bayou coated bullets. Shoots like a shotgun and other people have shot it and had the same experience. It shoots jacketed bullets just fine though.
Some guns are just picky. You might want to play with different types of factory ammo in the gun to see if it prefers one type of bullet.

Out of curiosity, why are you playing games with the aftec's springs? Did the gun give you problems with both installed?

I have done it to many 1911/2011s. Just have a barrel fit and tune your extracter and your good to go. Been doing it for years.
Fascinating. How exactly does that work? When a round is stripped out of the magazine, in order for it to slide up under the extractor hook, doesn't the opposite (left) side of the rim have to ride up the left wall of the breech? A .40 upper would allow a 9mm round to shift to the left until it contacts the breech wall which would put the round off center for feeding and also during extraction wouldn't it? In other words, a .40 round in a .40 gun centers between the breech wall on the left and the extractor on the right, which centers it on the barrel. A 9mm round in a .40 gun is going to slide to the left as it clears the magazine until the extractor pushes the left side of the rim up against the breech wall, leaving it slightly off center.
I'm not doubting you at all, I just wouldn't think this would operate reliably. That said, I have accidentally shot a couple of 9mm rounds out of a .40 XDM. The gun eventually failed to cycle after a few rounds though, because the extractor let go of the case rim.
Do I have this wrong?

Think about the mechanics of what you're asking. A 9mm case rim is smaller than a .40 case rim by a significant amount. The issue that leaves you with is that the extractor does not sit close enough to center to properly hold onto the case rim, and the case will not sit on the breach face properly. You'd end up with all kinds of failures to extract or eject as the round slid around on the breach face. A new top end is going to be your only option.

No storefront I don't think. They "build to user spec". You complete a build sheet to specify exactly what options you want, pay a deposit, then they build the gun and you pay the balance on completion.

This is my new Limcat Battlecat. It has a bushing barrel with a tungsten sleeve to give it a bull barrel profile and modified sight tracker design to keep much more non-reciprocating mass over the muzzle. Trigger is a about 2 pounds. With a 200 grain bullet on 4.2 grains of N320, this gun recoils like a 9mm. Craftsmanship is like nothing I've ever seen. Many thanks to Limcat Custom Guns for such a fine piece of machinery.

Here is the Start Position from the stage in question.
Standing outside shooting area, heels touching marks, hands relaxed at sides.
I was CRO on the stage, and will be happy to offer insight on how the decision was made, but I would like to see some opinions first.
The only way to have heels on marks outside the shooting area is to be facing uprange or sideways, away from the shooting area. Not sure how one foot in, one foot out can be construed by that description.

I've been shooting 200's for about a year now with 4.2-ish grains of VV N320 pushing them. It's a combination that works pretty well for me. Either the Bayou's or the Blue Bullets. Both seem accurate and feed reliably and the combination of bullet and powder at a 165-170 PF is very manageable.

Jake, currently it is much much easier to post results to PractiScore. As an uspsa club and services coordinator, do you plan to make posting results to uspsa as easy as that?
I am not the tech guy, but this is something that I have brought up many times.
Jake, you don't need to be a tech guy to score a match. I'd suggest you try to score some match (like your clubs would do) and submit results and activity report (why those are separate anyways?) to uspsa. that would at least give you some idea what your clubs need to go trough. Do that in ezws, as well as in both PractiScore on iOS and PS on Android.
Though it would be interesting to know whom you brought up those issues to.
Anyhow, I haven't seen any conversations or dialog happening between any interested parties, which makes it look as USPSA HQ doesn't care if clubs would struggle or not...
Practiscore now creates both the webfile for submitting scores and the activity/classifier report.
what I do is complete the scores on my ipad, email both files to myself, go to my PC, and submit them via the uspsa website. pretty easy/seamless now; no real excuse not to submit classifiers or post scores to uspsa just because you're using practiscore.

For one this is not available in Android app, so you need an ios/apple device or use ezws export.
But even then, creating these uspsa files in ios app and submitting them to uspsa are way way more complicated than tapping one button in PractiScore app to submit results to practiscore web site (that is what I'd call easy/seamless).
It never ceases to amaze me how people think they're entitled to be jackasses to the volunteers that help run this organization. euxx, I get that you're the man behind Android PS, and that's great, but that doesn't give you the freedom to be a jerk to other people who help make this sport go 'round.

An interesting question came up recently about clubs that include classifier stages in their matches and then don't ever submit those scores to USPSA for classification purposes. Anyone know what the obligations of affiliation are? Are clubs required to submit classifier reports if they include classifier stages, and are they still obligated to hold one special classifier match per year?

Not that it's a solution, but I'd try loading some 200gr round-nose Bayous and see how that works.

Here's a great way to tell if you're pushing the gun...set up at 15 yards on a paper target. Hold the gun up in the firing position with a good sight picture, but let someone else pull the trigger. I did this exercise recently and it was really good at removing "it's the gun" from the excuse book. Then you can get on to fixing you.
That said, the gun might just be off. Was the test paper shot with the same ammo you use? Different ammo will have different POI in some cases.
