Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I think for now I am just going to order a couple extended magplates for +4 capacity and use my XD for awhile. Switching calibers means switching guns and switching guns means a large investment in mags(140mm mags are pricey)..
  2. Reasoning for not shooting production. Not popular with my club for some reason Because of this spending 50 rounds per stage is not uncommon seems like I spend more time making mag changes vs shooting I shoot for the fun and competition self defense comes last but doesn't hurt. Besides my .22 pistols and my carry weapon yes it is my only pistol. I have been looking into a few replacements Modded factory pistols in .40(G35,m&p,XDM) CZ75 in .40 Eaa witness match Still searching around
  3. So I currently cast for 9mm and reload rounds for about $40 and because of the size in bullet vs the .40 it will cost me some lead(~500 less bullets per 50lb of lead),I load on a pro 1000 so the switch over is pretty simple, brass bulge concerns, stocking up on .40 brass(have alot of 9mm), and ultimately using more powder(shoudn't be much). I shoot USPSA Limited with a XD 9mm service with a trigger job and shoot at a disadvantage scoring in minor power factor vs the .40 guys. I also shoot a 4" slide so my sight radius isn't great. I would probably buy a glock 35 and upgrade or buy used. I would also replace the barrel with a lone wolf .40 barrel because I shoot lead exclusively because I cast my own bullets. I'd also keep an eye out for a XDM competition and M&P PRO so I wont have to worry about buying another barrel. This also would mean I would switch my HD pistol for something in .40 as well. Another concern is that I shoot 9mm very well since I have about 8-10k rounds down range with it. I can get groups that touch at 15yds slow fire sometimes and can only think of a couple times I shot a .40 cal. So would you do it?
  4. The timming could really mess up the priming stage which will be an easy fix. it might off been off from the factory. i have loaded at least 3K through mine and just not adjusted the timing. also make sure you have the right shell carrier part. make sure its not a large pistol primer system and you are loading small pistol primers or vis versa. never load more than 100 primers in the holder at a time and make sure the primer slot is at least half way up. if it gets any lower you will have primer issues. make full strokes every time. if you have to stop the process make sure your indexing location is correct. thats all the advice i have. i love the LEE pro..have 3 for different dedicated calibers. all but one of them runs smoothly. the one i have for my 45acp can be a pain for priming and powder charge. my 40s&w has never had a problem due to the press. good luck and have fun getting addicted to you press. I broke down the press, cleaned it,lubed with graphite including the primer chute and she runs like a dream for now. I reloaded about 300 rounds just testing her out at an incredible pace.
  5. I got the press and I'm having trouble with the primer feed. Most people have problems with bridging not feeding the primers. My problem is a primer is fed everytime but they are turning sideways or not seating at the station causing binding in the system. Haven't figured it out yet. I may just need to adjust the timing on the system.
  6. I bought my press and have been doing tons of research. My solution for the primer tray will be Attach a rubber band from the primer feed to increase the effect of gravity(will take a pic). Attach a battery powered cell phone buzzer to shake the feeder wired to a switch(probably mount on the bench) Here is an example that could be cleaned up a little I ordered the reconditioned pro 1000 from lee for $126,case collator, and bullet feed kit(have to mod this too probably).
  7. I've tried quite a few but have come to love the economy and accuracy of bullseye with 124gr cast bullets. WSF being a close second(annoying lack of load data). You just get more for your money with bullseye and I like the quick snap that allows for faster shots.
  8. I probably stand more than I sit but I try to get my reloading done in small intervals during the week. I usually reload while the dog does her business(press is on my enclosed back porch) so I usually get 50 rounds per day this way. If I have a reloading session I sit down.
  9. Anyone use bullseye? I find you get alot for your money for target loads, alot of load info, availability and its accurate for me using cast lead. It does runs a little dirty though.
  10. South FL stinks from a shooting range point of view although we have a few different matches going on. Mostly indoor ranges or 5 second per shot outdoor ranges.
  11. Thanks guys.. I will be shooting production this thursday.. on a side note I placed 11 out of 28 in the limited class. Xd service with lighter springs on the stock trigger setup and grip tape.
  12. I shoot a XD 9mm service and I have been competing in limited the past couple matches knowing that I am at a disadvantage shooting minor. I have enough mags to shoot limited(6) but question my ability to make constant mag changes. I'm not sure if I should spend time in limited to learn the ropes a bit more before throwing tons of mag changes in the mix or start building my skills as much as possible now by jumping into production. The basic question is which class would you recommend for a beginner in the sport but a good shooter?
  13. I am trying to find the right load without a chrono. I haven't bought a chrono because I couldn't use one at the ranges I shoot at(indoor). The load I am using now is 4.0gr of bulleye and a 124gr lee tumble lube RN(cast lead)to shoot minor(I think it shoots around 1050). Anyone have any chono data from a XD service or 4" barrel?
  14. There is no rule in USPSA about pointing the muzzle over the berm. Just make damn sure your finger is not on the trigger and you do not fire a round over the berm. I think you are referring to a "shot' which goes over the berm. There is a 180 plane that is you basically, (hard to put into words, for me anyway). If your gun's muzzle would break that 180 your DQ'd. Point the muzzle straight up, past that to the your rear is breaking the 180. Make sense? Thanks guys I am always safe and keep my booger hook off the trigger until firing. It just seemed a little off to me and I wanted to make sure(read the rules up and down) that it is okay. I will spend some time browsing around the forum and thanks for the warm welcomes.
  15. I started shooting Uspsa a few weeks ago. I have been working on my mag changes and after some tips from better shooter. Hard to explain here but index mag facing forward, swipe mag with pointer finger pointing down, bring mag and gun together in front of your face without breaking wrist. Isn't a rule being broken when the angle of the barrel of the gun reaches a certain point during a reload(over the berm)? I posted a picture of what I am talking about.
