  1. Excellent! I don't know who thought that standing still and loading in a "gunfight" was a good idea but they obviously had a brain fart that day. LOL For a sport that tries to keep itself tethered to some sort of concealed carry reality it was the stupidest rule I had seen.

Right?! I often wonder what IDPA would be like if the only CoF rule besides safety was "If you perform an act that would lead to a conviction in the real world you get a penalty. If your actions are defensible in court then you may continue without penalty." Of course we would all be up a creek with a large number of scenarios putting us in seek and destroy mode.

  2. I've thought for a long time that if someone has difficulty with their vision they should be allowed an optic. I have the hardest time teaching people who have trouble with their eyes since mine are quite good. This is the case especially with a few diabetic friends that have a helluva time with seeing contrast well.

I've also heard older ladies and gentlemen that shoot uspsa with us say that they have moved to open due to their eyesight. It makes sense to me that they should have been allowed an optic in other divisions a long time ago.

This IDPA offering opens the door for them. I for one know that one of my previously mentioned diabetic friends has agreed to start shooting IDPA with me next summer even if the division does not happen. He says he will just use an optic and not worry about the scores until they decide to make it an official division.

Regarding the box I think that requiring the gun to fit the box with an optic or some new box would be a good way to limit how far the division is taken. On the other hand I'm excited to see what creative people come up with if the rules are left loose enough to allow some invention. Either way it should be really neat.

Also I heard no mention of a compensator being allowed so recoil will remain a challenge. I bet that the scores between a good shooter with an optic and a good shooter without one will still be awful close.

  3. As a long time IDPA member and shooter I welcome the idea of ANY new division. Thanks to the lack of any "high overall" standing it doesn't really effect the SSP guy who has a budget friendly G17 straight from the box. I do wonder where the classifier lines will fall if the optic comes to IDPA. Will the master line be in the 80's or the 90's or will we see the first 70 second range line??? Personally I'm excited at the idea of the optic division. I have a little G29 that I would love to add a dot to and tenmillimerize the targets with.

It also occurs to me that the optic guns may have to fit the box. Could it be that with a barrel change my beloved and long reigning safe queen of a modified division IPSC gun could go to work once more? I think I'll dig it out and see if I have a barrel floating around that will work in it.

Not mine here but just a pic for those that don't know what a modified gun was...

  4. Hooray! :cheers::cheers::cheers:

This is starting to give me the scary impression that IDPA actually listens to their membership :surprise: My CDP gun and I will be back in the saddle this season. We took the year off to play 3 gun and wait for the new rule dust to settle though I kept the membership current.

  5. Plus one for gas guns here. I do like to use my spring gun also though. I treat each shot like it was followed with a jam and practice the motions of getting the gun back up. Kinda a stretch but they are super cheap and it keeps me practicing when I run out of gas and have to wait for more to come in.

I also have taken to using my gas 1911 for practice two or three times a week then recycling the fired BBs in my spring gun. Also my gas gun is the first thing I hand to someone new that wants to learn how to shoot. If they do something stupid it's much less consequential though still should be treated like the potentially dangerous weapon it emulates.

  6. 10mm brass is never empty...It's just waiting :goof:

That having been said I do occasionally come across 10mm brass with a small primer pocket and a federal head stamp so beware of that :angry2: I usually load it up on the lighter side for the once or twice a year that my wife wants to fire one of my 10's. I have used once fired federal brass to make 9x25 Dillon ammo with great success.

Also it has been my experience that 10mm anneals well for repeated loading during some of the times that I just couldn't find any new stuff available.

Thank you for owning a 10 you are most wise!

  7. I have an aluminum Para frame hiding in the safe that I picked up along the way. It says PATENT PENDING on it along with the usual Canada and Florida markings. Prefix is PG. Anyone have any info they can share on it? I'm thinking it's a really early one from when they were trying to sell it to the military in the early 80's.

I'll dig it out and put up a pic soon.

    Thanks,

    Jerry

  8. I've seen a lot of success running two guns and choosing major or minor based on where I go to shoot. Some clubs tend to have a lot of open and limited shooters and at those I tend to go with more ammo in the gun and shoot minor. On occassion I come to a club that has lots of SS and Revo guys and I haul out the major gun. I also look at the setups and decide (can I shoot mostly A's on these?) If the answer is yes I go minor and keep the *thumb rest [generic]* floored all day and usually do very well. Lot's of fall down steel activators also tend to put me in a major mood so I can drive them down faster.

Summary: If you can run two guns or have two slides you can setup for one lower and you have the experience to look over the stages and choose what to run from a strategic point of view you will have a very helpful advantage.

Or you could do what I did last year...say the heck with it, call in many many brass favors from your pals and run 10mm 8) BOOM PEPPER POPPER GOES DOWN!!!

    Good luck enjoy SS

  9. Hey all,

Picked up a PD turn in G22 in a trade and planning to set it up as a limited gun. My intention is to shoot a few matches with it then pass it on to my wife so she can give limited a spin. Any offerings of ideas or opinions on trigger kits, Guide rod (spring poundage especially) that other folks running a G22,23,35 or 24 can offer would be very much appreciated.

The well and extensions are Dawsons that I had left over from an old G17L I started in limited with.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

  10. At 1010AM EST 3/21/14 My wife and I welcomed our first son Calvin to the world.

To all the guys that ever told me, "When you're a father you'll understand." I get it now.

  11. Got a chance to put one through some drills last weekend with many thanks to the local Glock dealer for providing it and it's little .380 buddy for us to check out!...

Nice and straight shooter fit my G17 rig as well as a CompTac for the 34 but a little tight. FYI Limited 10 guys running a ghost. Trigger guard dimensions are same same. Noticed the gun liked my 1911 IDPA loads but was a little cranky with my slightly hotter L10 rounds.

On a side note anyone noticed they skipped Glock 40??? Dare I hope that a 10mm version to sit in that space is coming? Hopefully they are following tradition and there will be a 10mm!!

  12. I voted awhile ago but never posted. So in the spirit of sharing data for this study...

  13. Hey guys just wondering who I was likely to see this year at the Great Lakes Regional at Munger, MI. My attendance is going to boil down to when Nikki decides to go into labor or when our new son decides to make her lol. If all goes well then I'll make a late entry and be down to join the fun!!!

If I do make it I'll be down Sunday and shooting SSP (only division my classifier is up to date for thus far)

If your gonna make it and feel like sharing throw up a post with class and division.

Really hope to see you there!!!!

  14. There is a very nice custom XDm open in the open guns topic in the gallery section. I don't know how to link directly to it but you can set the search bar to "this topic" while your on that thread and type in xdm to find it.

Also if it helps here is the parts list for one I've been putting together for my wife to try open:

    - XDm 9mm

    - Dawson Ice Magwell https://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=MAGWELLS%2C+MAIN+SPRING+HOUSINGS+AND+BACKSTRAPS:Magwell+Springfield+XDm

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you are running open you are gonna want some 170mm mags over those dawsons. The dawsons will be nice for reloads.

He's entitled to his opinion but I found that the 140's are easier for my wife to pull from her belt and insert in the gun. Starting with a 170 is nice but Nikki didn't care for the added weight. Also the 170 pads cost almost double the money.

  16. Just because it came to mind to ask what was the "patient zero" of open guns? I've heard that the first red dot to go on an open gun was on Barnhardt's gun. Is this true? Does anyone know first hand?

Also because it's of interest to me I'll post in the gallery asking for photos of old open guns say pre 1999.

    Link here:

    http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=187621

Any factual data on the history of open would be much appreciated as well.

    Thank You!

  17. I've always enjoyed seeing older open guns and I have a thread going elsewhere asking for a history of open. Please post any open gun you may still have built pre 1999. Especially the non 1911 ones.

P.S. I will mail a Snicker's bar to anyone who posts a Sphinx!

  18. I received that email too and honestly it was a little offensive. I still plan on shooting IDPA as much as I can and participating but I get the distinct feeling that I'll see a lot less people that I know at the matches.

On the bright side I remember being told that IDPA "broke away" from USPSA when they started. Maybe something new will now "break away" from IDPA??? Wouldn't that be something!

I don't wish to get too close to the political comments/ bashing line as the forum rules should be respected but perhaps the answer to this problem is for the membership to make their opinion known the same way people do in political matters. For example if your local fire dept is closing down then a petition is started to attempt to convince the powers that be to keep that dept open. Why not a similar petition among IDPA members to retract some of the new rules that aren't well liked.

As for myself the treatment of long established SO's who worked hard to support the game for years was not fair. Considering most of the new rules are just putting old clarifications in print and considering we all adapted as we worked as SO's.

  19. What was the first gun you shot in IDPA and in what division did you use it?

First guns used to try other divisions as well please. If you like finish up with what you run now.

Just curious where others started out. I know I started with some odd stuff considering what I shoot now lol.

My first match in 2004 I shot SSP and I used a Ruger P85 in 9mm. Instantly was hooked and bought a G34 the next day.

Later that year I tried CDP with a borrowed Sig P220

I shot ESP for the first time with a Glock 34

    Still haven't tried ESR

Shot my first SSR match last year with a borrowed GP100 on a bet. That was fun!

    These days:

    SSP - SA XDm 5.25 9mm

    ESP - SA Loaded Target 1911 9mm

    CDP - SA 1911

    ESR - Nothing yet

SSR - Ruger GP100 4" (have not taken my own to a match as yet)
