  1. You are correct, there is additional info, however I can't post it.

The people on the stage were directed by the RO not to tape until the stage could be scored.

Got it, we won't get all of the information.

This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to twist the story to fit our own prejudices and experiences so that we look righteous while accomplishing nothing. Continue!

  2. Offensive Material
Please do not post offensive material. If you wouldn't want your 10 year-old to read it, please don't post it. This also applies to links in posts. If what's in a link (text or video) would not be appropriate if it was typed in a post, it is not acceptable. If in doubt about your post's content, please PM a Moderator before posting.

Pictures are not different from posts. If it's even borderline offensive, or could be construed to be offensive, please do not post it or use it as an Avatar.
    • Please do not post images of any sort in your signature.
    • Please do not post "dead-animal pictures."

Completely subjective. What some people let their 10 year-olds watch, hear, and do would make the suggestion that elicited this response look like a kindergarten lesson.

  3. I think you're mind is made up. I wouldn't worry about the ESPN scenario, tapping isn't that exciting to warrant a live broadcast.
I am guessing you were one of the offended. I would also assume that this wasn't the first stage... and his frustration had been building to the point he popped.
If you were one of those people he targeted, I would reflect on yourself first, instead of looking for rules to justify embarrassment.
I guarantee that his statement obviously offended some, but I guarantee that people started taping.
If that was the case, good on him!

  4. From USPSA App D8:

No magazine couplers allowed, magazines must be carried on the belt or in apparel pockets. See rule 5.2.4. No restriction on location on the belt. No thigh rigs or tie down magazine holders.

  5. and there in lies the solution, I have run several "hard" stages at local matches, and making a hard stage fixed time solves the penalty problem for all levels of shooter you get what you shot period, but you are not hammered for what you were unable to shoot. The best shooter still wins the stage but the regular shooters finish without being kicked in the groin.

  6. I figured it would make sense for the Nationals stages to test a wide range of shooters skills based on what stage design is like at most other major matches. But I guess the masses would rather spend a crap ton of money and time to attend a "Run-Stop-Shoot" repetitive grind with shooting challenges that are over the top for the average competitor. I was going to continue trying to explain my stance on this but I am evidently totally off base from what the USPSA customer base wants to see and experience at the Nationals.

Uh, negative. Most of us agree with you, especially the more experienced ones.

One of the things we seem to fight repeatedly in my area (where often setup is by volunteers) is the '50 yard partials with no-shoots' stages because "I wanted to slow those fast guys down". Well guess what, the "fast guys" all still kicked your a$$ and you caused almost all of the new guys and C or lower shooters (including yourself) to zero a stage. Nice work.

  7. I think the OP covered most of these butt hurt comments with "every shooter has to eat the same sh!t sandwich" but the thread keeps getting twisted into "it was so hard my vag aches" by one poster in particular.

Good discussion for the most part, and what I think the OP was asking was "is it fun?" as, even though I want to beat everyone there, I better have fun shooting the match or I probably will think strongly about not returning to the next match no matter my level of success.

  8. I think it's funny a GM complaining about 1 stage in a match because he didn't do well on it.

I didn't do that we'll on it, not because the stage was too hard but because I made a mistake, I think it was a good stage.

I read that he was concerned/curious about more than just one stage and from MD standpoint wonders how other shooters feel about the match so that he can adapt his own offerings to better align with what shooters want....but I could be WAY off.

  9. I don't take the OP's intent on this thread to be "change the game to fit the elite" as much as "make sure the game doesn't just become lop-sided on the side of difficulty OR speed". I didn't shoot Lim or Open Nats so I can't speak about the stages but I HAVE shot matches that were so much of a grind that I didn't enjoy them much.

  10. I have mixed feelings about the 2016 Limited Nationals, but that is mainly because I am torn between being a Competitor and a Match Director.

As a Competitor, I really don't care about the difficulty of the shots as long as they are not so hard that it creates an element of luck verses skill in getting your hits. The only stage that I felt that was totally unreasonable from a shooting challenge perspective was stage 9. This was a standards stage that only 10 of 300 competitors shot penalty free. One third of the competitors zeroed this stage. When world champion skill level GM shooters can't shoot the stage clean then its too hard.

As a Match Director, I wouldn't have put several of the shooting challenges or arrays of difficult targets in the Nationals stages as they were clearly beyond the skill set of the masses attending the match. When I review the results of the middle of the pack finishers from the Limited Nationals the average amount of misses is well into the double digits and no shoots in the high single digits. Sure, the Nationals is testing shooters to see who the national champion should be based on practical shooting skills. But do the majority of the stages have to be so difficult that the average shooter is racking up double digit shooting penalties? I would say no. The "Masses" entry fee's are what creates the income to make the match happen. So why would we want to force those guys to shoot unrealistic shooting challenges so 10 or so guys can contend for a national title? The national title contenders will always be able to segregate their performances from others in time and points shot so why not make the shooting challenges more reasonable for the average shooter so they can at least get their hits?

This pretty well sums up my feelings about matches in general including those at championship level.

  11. Cleaning as necessary which will be more frequent depending on the ammo and when getting to know your pistol. I use grease when I clean and high quality oil in between at every range session.

I don't pretend to have spoken to all of the builders and in fact there is one builder/assembler that DOES recommend tearing down the top end after every range session on their website. Brian Enos himself makes reference on his website to the fact that he ran his pistols for thousands of rounds without cleaning in the desert and didn't notice any excess wear or issues so he stopped worrying about it.

This is what works/has worked for me for several years and many rounds in competition/practice. Also, I'm ONLY speaking about 1911/2011's used for competition.

  12. That's the bore ... but how about the rest of the gun - all the moving/rubbing/sliding parts?  Those need lube, and not just a bunch of dirty oil imbedded with powder residue and other random dirt.  (Would you do that to your vehicle's engine?)

No, but this is a LOT different than a combustion engine that cycles more on a single drive to the store than a pistol will in 2 lifetimes. I lube regularly and MOST of the by products created by firing the ammo I'm running are lubricative not abrasive. If I shoot in a sand storm or other dusty environment then I'll clean early, the rest of the time I won't. I have no issues with abnormal breakage or premature wear, in fact I'd bet my pistols run longer than average.

  13. I clean the top end and frame rails every 2-4K and disassemble the bottom end once a year (spreading my competition/practice over 3 pistols that works out to about 10k), that s running coated lead bullets.

I used to be a "shoot it, clean it" type but found that many times I wouldn't shoot because I didn't have/want to take the time to clean. I maintain that you can absolutely do more harm than good with improper or too frequent cleaning. Schuemann recommends inspection but NOT cleaning their bores when using quality ammo for this reason.

  14. I don't have any other sensors but I suppose if you didn't have too many crimped pockets you could run the primer sensor and just process rejected cases separately. This is certainly one of the MkVII advantages, swaging and sensing.

I'd mount up the MBF right off of the bat. It was a straightforward setup and let's you watch everything else going on instead of looking at the bullet tray for the next projectile.

  15. I ended up going the less expensive route with the Ammobot. I only load 40 S&W on my 1050 and the Rev 2 Ammobot has proven to be all I need and more. I think you'll like it but I HIGHLY recommend that you run the press by hand for a few thousand and make sure you have all of the kinks worked out. It took me a year and a half to get mine running smoothly enough that I trusted it to automate.
