  1. Late to the party. But I use ranch products moon clips with winchester brass. On a side note these are the moon clips that I already had for my Smith and Wesson 8 shot in 38 super. Which also had the removable comp and also shoots better with 356 and 357 bullets

well thats a Smith revolver thing,,,  I am guessing all 28, 357, 38 super, and 9mm's are using the same barrels.
I was thinking more of the 38 super 1911/2011 guns,, the original single stacks and factory ammo was a .356 , Open guns probably started with those barrels, but like smith did after 9mm got popular, I imagine most makers  just went to a single barrel blank size...  So 38 supers were doing fine with 355's and 356 jacketed fell out of fashion,,, combine that with the open guys prefering fully encased hp, vs exposed lead FMJ's lead to my score of 356 bullets.

Yes I also have an old Para p18 which was converted to 38 super 👌 👍

.356 jacketed,, because when 38 super fell out of fashion, and all the barrels even the supers went to .355 , I bought a metric butt ton of .356 124 gr FMJ's from somebody for half the going rate of 355's... Boxes are marked 38 super.  Rose seems to ring a bell...  Then I stopped shooting IDPA and started IPSC standard, and had no use for 9mm. So been lugging them around a couple decades... Ima bout out though.

My Smith and wesson 38 super revolver prefer 357 358.

    Good afternoon Guys.

I hope you are all doing ok, in these very trying times.

I a looking forward to trying my S/W 617 10 shot in ICORE, if this crap had not happened, I would have gotten the chance in May at the next match, but that's life.

I had to add an C/L extended firing pin to my 617 to insure that the rounds always went off, I have about 4000 rounds through it on the longer pin, not one failure.

I use Agula .22 as it was the most consistent in power factor, I needed this for the mover in AP, the round is going 1050 no less and up to 1060 max, OMG what great ammo.

Fifty yards on the practical all x's sort of, its me not the ammo.

The one thing that's for sure, I can not get the trigger lighter than 8.5lbs, I can live with that.

Be safe out there, this will end.

    Russell

    Canadian

AP / IPSC / USPSA / ICORE / PPC / Rim fire Challenge sort of.

Hope life gets better for you Russell

That screw holds in a spring and plunger that operates the cylinder stop. In later models they just put the spring inside the sideplate without a plunger. That gun is probably from the late 50s to sometime in the 60s.

Thanks Warren. For the information. It'd in great shape and got it for 700 hundred dollars. Couldn't resist. Got to load up some ammo and shoot it.

I have had great results with Dillon Case Lube…the lanolin seems to retard the leading and cleaning is a bit easier. I use it in my NRA Action guns when I cheap out on non-jacketed practice ammo.     YMMV

Thanks I've got some and used it before. Seems like I had to spray it constantly during matches.

  7. I was using 160 grain bayou bullets sized at 356. Tried 355 jacketed oh they shoot just not accurately out of my 929. Due to leading up the compensator I just switched to 147 grain jacketed 357 bullets behind 3.2 grains of titegroup. Good accuracy. I have some 124 jacketed in 357 I just hate got around to trying them yet

  8. I have the 38 super revolver that Smith and Wesson made prior to the 929. Don't remember the model number. I still have it. For accuracy 356 bullets work great that's jacketed bullets I'm sure 357 would to. I was using both hornady 125 in 356 and zero in 356 great accuracy

I recently bought an Elite Limited 9mm and it came with a few extra parts. One of these parts is a Henning flat trigger system. Before I take the time to tear down the gun and install this trigger I would like some opinons on it and any tricks on installation and tuning of it.  Thanks in advance.

I put one in my elite limited years ago. I like it but it's been so long ago I don't remember there being any problems or tricks. Takes a lot of side to side play out. Sorry can't help more.

looking to buy something when I get off this hitch,, was thinking the M&P competitor  was compensated or there was a model with a compensator ,,
I have ZERO non 1911/2011 experience other than a XDM 9mm that I really like. LIke it so much I dont want to mess with it. Makes a good forget about it truck gun.
But seems like anything I want is made of unubtanium.  Thinking of putting together an open slide ride minor gun to shoot in SC, or might check out  a local USPSA or IDPA match. Probably only shoot 4 or 5 matches a year.
So how would you compare M&P lines to an XDM if you have shot both ?

I have both the xdm 5.25 and the m&p 1.0. I just bought the competitor 2.0 metal.  Out of the box the xdm was much more accurate. I put aftermarket triggers on both the xdm and 1.0. I also had a gunsmith fit barrel added to the 1.0 because for me accuracy was terrible. I bought the 5 inch core slide that Smith and wesson sold for the m&p 1.0 it's compensated and it's plug and play. Now about the competitor. The trigger isn't great but a huge improvement. It's flat faced if you like that. It's not as nice a trigger as the canik rival trigger. But much better than glock. For me the Smith and Wesson m&p fits great in my hand.  The xdm isn't bad. So I think it's kinda preference. The competitor comes with optic plates so easily mount a red dot. But I'm pretty sure some of the xdm pistols have that option. So go with what feels good. Oh if you've already got xdm mags see if they're interchangeable with what xdm you're considering buying. Not sure if that helps. Good luck

  11. It's OK. I am a little disappointed with accuracy. I've only shot reloads I had on hand. All were shot off the bag at 17 yards with a red dot. 5 shot groups.

    Bullet.        Powder.  Group size ctc

    124 Win RN  titegroup 4.1.      2.014

    124 Win RN.  Titegroup 4.4.    1.892

    124 RMR MW Titegroup 3.8.   2.868

    135 Bayou. Sport Pistol 3.5.  Over 4"

    135 Acme   Sport Pistol 3.5.    2.858

    147 RMR MW Titegroup 3.2   Over 4"

    147 extreme RN VV320  3.2     2.22

So accuracy can be found just have to look a little harder than most my other guns

I really like the feel of the m&p in my hands. I have a 1.0 that I won when they first came out. Had to do trigger work install barsto barrel to make it right for me. So I had magazines for this already and they are interchangeable.

The trigger on the competitor is much better. Not as good as the canik rival which is also not picky with ammo and accuracy. But a great improvement over 1.0 m&p. I also don't like the front strap which is removable. It's not noticeable when shooting but just bugs me that it wiggles. Don't like the plastic plates. Recoil is different than the plastic m&p maybe faster and snappier. So long story short. I think find what you like and feels good in your hands. I shoot revolver quite a bit so I'm not a trigger snob. I'm in michigan so I'll really play with it more when the weather breaks.
