  1. Check other forums dedicated to .380 guns, lots of load data on there.

Used to be a Ruger LCP forum "ElsiePeaForums" but they moved, don't have the link anymore. Also can check the Walther forums their section for PP, PPK and PPK/s guns has lots of people reloading for .380.

^^^ You get the point, its out there, just not on this board.

  2. I use to load Solo 1000 for 9mm and also had the same problem... By some measures I was having to load right-at the MAX Load just to make Minimum PF, on a good day.

I eventually decided Solo 1000 was the wrong powder to use for that situation.

  3. There is an email exchange floating around... I am not sure of the source of it. Maybe somebody here has new/more info?

    Since you asked...

From what I read, it started with Wounded Warrior Project snubbing Tom Gresham's "Gun Talk" web/radio show, basically someone at WWP said they don't want anything to do with the Firearms industry

You can see the whole thing on Facebook on WWP's site and GunTalk's site, and judge for yourselves:

    https://www.facebook.com/wwpinc.fans?filter=2

WWP does not co-brand, create cause marketing campaigns or receive a percentage or a portion of proceeds from companies in which the product or message is sexual, political or religious in nature, or from alcohol or firearms companies.
Our position regarding firearms and alcohol is in response to the struggles that many injured service members face with substance abuse and suicide and the roles those items often play in those issues.

Recently they are backpedaling ("clarifying") their position....see WWP's Facebook page to read it straight from the source.

  4. If it's not too much trouble, can you give me the OAL of the caps you use? Thanks.

Mine are red, aluminum i think, 2.989 inches. May be a-zoom or some other brand, can't be sure, not marked anywhere.

I have two, and I feed them from a 2-shot enblock clip.

Biggest problem I have with them is the extractor grove gets chewed-up over time.

  5. A .22 will always have a different point of aim, because ammo has a large range of velocities.

That's why the M&P22, as well as most other .22 pistols, have adjustable sights.

So, you can adjust it to match your 9L.

IF you want something that feels like your M&P nothing else is going to get you as close as a M&P22 will.

  6. This is for a pistol not AR.

If we are talking about the M&P22 Pistol (not the AR rifle or AR-looking Pistol)

It looks just like a M&P 9/40 pistol, that also means there is no rail on-top for easily mounting an optic. The entire slide reciprocates, so there is no stationary rail like on a Buckmark or S&W 22a.

for the Jpoint, you are talking about cutting the rear-sight dovetail to mount the optic to the rear of the slide?

I've never seen it done but I do have a M&P22 pistol so some things that might be a problem for this setup:

    1) reciprocating weight: adding the optic increases the weight of the slide. The entire slide reciprocates (just like a M&P 9/40) but it has to be very lightweight being only a .22. This may affect functioning, you might have to experiemnt with the recoil spring, use high velocity ammo only, etc.

    2) the Slide is some sort of Aluminum alloy, be careful milling the dovetail on the slide, the material is not as strong as steel. Even if you mill it to fit the Jpoint, will the dovetail in the slide be strong-enough to hold it over time?

Interesting, potentially possible but I've never seen it done. let me know how it goes.

  7. I load .380 for a LCP (started back last year when factory ammo was unobtainable).

I use a 100 grain cast-lead bullet, and have experiemented with various powders.

Acc#5 is what I usually load, it is a light load for practice. I've even experimented with Solo 1000.

Very low velocities on my reloads, for easy practice.

I have not tried to duplicate the velocity from any factory loads.

(Coincidentally, I just bought a Walther PPK/s, so I might start experimenting with faster loads in .380)

  8. Customer: Yea 30-06 is great. I got this friend that shoots 22 bullets through is 30-06.

Me: No I don't think so.

    Remington did/does make a 30-06 Accelerator load. Uses a sabot and a .223 bullet.

I have some Accelerators in .30-'06 Springfield and 308 Winchester in the basement. They shot OK, but not great.

    ....

Sounds like this guy was not all wet. .....

    I can imagine it now:

I was telling someone about how you could shoot a .223 out of a 30-06 using a special sabot, and they rolled their eyes like I was full of it.. dang people at the gun-store think they know it all ;)

  9. Checked out your youtube page. Are there any vids on there shoot with your keychain hatcam?

I have been using one of these Keychain Cameras on my hat for a while now.... Works good if you can get the angle correct....

Look at my video "Ruger Rimfire competition: June 2012".

The first two scenes (the practice sessions) are done with the GoPro Hero2 in 1080 format on Medium Field-of-view setting; everything else (the actual match itself) was recorded with the 720p Keychain Cam.

FYI, I did not add any color/contrast enhancement nor image stabilization nor "de-shaker" on this video when I edited, so what you are seeing is the video feed more-or-less straight from the cameras (well, except for YouTube's reprocessing which causes a loss due to their internal compression algorithms).

I use the GoPro if I specifically set-out to make a video, but it is heavy and bulky. So, when my mind is concentrating on shooting well (instead of making a video), the Keychain cam is alot more convenient.

One of the problems with the Keychain cam mounted on the hat is getting the angle correct. At 0:42 in that video you can see what happens when I don't push the hat far-enough up for rifle, when I lay my head down on the rifle the camera is pointing down too much.

I have used it enough now to know how to set my hat angle for Pistol vs Rifle viewing. For pistol, I push the hat up to where I can't even see the bill of the cap anymore (e.g. it no longer functions to keep the Sun and hot brass off of my face). For rifle, I have to push it waaay up to where the hat is almost falling off of my head.

The GoPro doesn't have this problem since the angle can be set on the mount, and the wide field-of-view takes-in everything (but it gets fish-eye effect).

  10. Only place I could get mags was direct from S&W. (FYI a Wather P22 mag looks similar but will _not_ fit).

For a mag-pouch, I've never found anything that worked properly, they are a thin magazine body with a large wide baseplate. Closest thing I could find was a cheesy nylon mag-carrier.

For a CA variant, does yours not have the front barrel retainer nut?

  11. FYI, M&P22 shooters:

I just noticed that Dawson Precision now has a front-sight made specifically for the M&P22 listed on their website:

    http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=800012BE-1321897421

(Previously, the only option was to take a sight made for the 9mm/40/45 and file it down to fit, the dovetails were not exactly the same)

I made a video documenting the installation on my M&P22, so you can see how it looks, here:

  12. What I hate: any project that involves grinding concrete.

I had to mount something to a poured-concrete wall, the wall had some uneven bumps on it so I used an angle-grinder with a concrete-grinding disc to knock-down the high spots so the item would mount flush to the wall.

Now, I have used an angle grinder to cut or grind steel, and I know the mess it makes. I've used a concrete cutting disc before to make a cut in concrete block, and that makes a mess.

But, using a grinding disc to grind the surface of concrete is a whole `nother league: that 8,000 RPM spinning-disc hits the surface of the concrete, pulverizes it, and slings it at great speed all over the place. It unleashes a room-filling thunderstorm of concrete dust that settles all over everthing and permeates every open space in the room. This was a workshop area where I had stored some tools, It will take me days to get all the dust cleaned-up off of everything :(

(I was wearing a respirator for the dust)
