  1. I also have had problems with Hornady OneShot case lube leaving a sticky residue, it's fine when first applied but come back in about 2 weeks and the rounds are all gummy.

Fwiw, the CMP ships 200 rounds of 30-06 loose in an ammo-can via FedEx with no problems.... After riding around on a bumpy truck ride, being dropped on the floor, etc.

  2. One more reason why I won't stay at a Marriott again:
    http://www.economist.com/blogs/gulliver/2014/10/hotel-wi-fi

MARRIOTT has admitted to jamming customers' Wi-Fi hotspots in "at least one" of its hotels, forcing business travellers to pay for the chain's own Wi-Fi service, according to America's Federal Communication Commission (FCC). ... the jamming happened during a conference at which Marriott was charging exhibitors and journalists "as much as $1,000 per device" for access, according to the FCC. "It is unacceptable for any hotel to intentionally disable personal hotspots while also charging consumers and small businesses high fees to use the hotel’s own Wi-Fi network," Travis LeBlanc, the FCC's top enforcement official, said in a press release.

Marriott, which was fined $600,000, doesn't seem sorry. The chain released a statement arguing that it was trying to protect customers from "rogue wireless hotspots" and demanded the FCC make a formal rule on the issue.

FWIW, last time I stayed at a Marriott it has a serious "nickel and dime you to death" attitude. They had "free" WiFi but its seriously crippled, trying to force you to pay extra for "upgraded WiFi" just to get something that works. Other hotels are better value, IMO.

  3. I went down this road a few years ago. Taurus 1911 in 9mm stainless, for steel challenge.

Had a lot of jamming issues. The gun would run fine for a 50 round range session, but when I tried to run a Steel Challenge match I was getting all sorts of erratic extraction and stovepipe jams.

Has to send it back to Taurus twice.

Many people told me I needed to get it worked-over by a Gunsmith, but I don't believe in spending my own money to fix a manufacturer's problem for them. After two trips to Taurus they replace the slide. I sold the gun after that.

It was a lesson for me: don't buy cheap and then struggle to make it work. Buy right the first time.

Other people at my club run Taurus without issues, I can only give my experience.

  4. Boy, some memories there. I also have the X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter floating around in my desk. Wish that Lucas Arts would re-release it for the new OS's

I just found X-wing Alliance, that was as good as it got , before the franchise was shut down. :(

Most of these old (DOS) games can be run using the DosBox software, it's basically a DOS virtual machine you can run them in.

    Marathon, baby!

I just did a quick play-thru of Wing Commander 3, and it hurt my eyes.
  5. Just funny, I was digging thru my attic and came-across these boxes for old PC games. The Wing Commander 3 box still has all the discs and instruction manual inside plus a poster of all the ships. I still remember the line in the game "the price of freedom is eternal vigilance", ;)

    photo1_zps945661f8.jpg

Also found these old instruction manuals for other games, which I loved at the time.

    photo2_zps386c1792.jpg

Whats really interesting, and ties it to today's technology..... I didn't even make the connection between Mass Effect series and WC3 & WC4 until I saw this old box.
I remember how you had crew interactions, conversations with choices for response, ability to pick people who went on missions with you, your choices (somewhat) caused a different ending, plus a romance sub-plot, and I think "Wow, I thought Mass Effect was a whole new type of game; but that same stuff was in Wing Commander 3, that was 20 years ago!"

My my, how far we have come in 20 years. wait.... has it been 20 years alreay? making me feel old now. *snif*

  6. Sorry I have to ask this...........how do you cut the case in half (meaning instructions and equipment)? I do not have a ban saw...

I'm not the OP, but ... I have cut cases in half to see the inside ("sectioning a case"). I use a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel.

  7. I do not flash lights unless it's an accident ahead or bicycle or other danger.

If you are speeding, it's not my responsibility to "help" you

I once heard a cop say "people ask me all the time how to avoid a speeding ticket. I tell them: don't speed"

  8. It would take me years to go through all of thay

Depending on load, 1lb of pistol powder makes approx 2k rounds.

If you get into rifle reloading it goes quick: on my 30-06 loads one pound of rifle powder only makes ~166 rounds. On my 223 loads one lb only makes ~300.

  9. Serious question: how many pounds do you order to make the hazmat charge worth it?

The max you can get under one Hazmat fee.

I think once our club did a group-buy and it was ~20 lbs.

  10. Another "Browning Buckmark with C-more"

    Browning_BuckMark_C-More5_zps594565ea.jp

I happened to find one at the store that already came with a Threaded barrel (my lucky day, I think these were made as a Distributor's special).

Added an Allchin mount for C-More SlideRide, 8-MOA.

Shown here with my SilencerCo Sparrow, just for fun.

    See you at the range.

  11. I was playing-around with one of these M&P-15-22 at my 200 yard range last weekend (Practicing shooting from standing position). I Had to adjust the rear sight a few turns, but was hitting a large steel gong at 200 yards.

Funny how long it takes the bullet to reach there and then hear the sound back. You think a bullet is fast, until you have to wait for it.

  12. Just to be clear, I am not looking for an upgrade, but first purchase. I am a late-adapter.

If you just want a media device for movies, etc you can buy a Roku box, or other such device.

If you want games on the _cheap_, I _might_ even consider buying a used Xbox 360 / PS3 from someone who is upgrading, if you can live with the fact that after this Holiday season there are no new blockbuster games made for it later in 2014. The used game stores will be flooded with used Xbox 360 / PS3 games because I don't think the new units are backwards compatible with older games. Media functionality and their online marketplaces should continue to function for a while, but how long they keep the back-end infrastructure up&running is anyone's guess.

  13. And, if you are really worried about big brother..

I understand that, but as a consumer I still try to push-back. I'm not ready to say "well whatever" and give-up the slippery-slope to take the curtains down off of my house and leave all my windows open for all the world to see.

failed to communicate that it is a really good input device to the system.

They haven't proven that to me.

Has anyone tried playing a game with it? Curious to hear from someone who has.

Based on my experience with other similar technologies, I expect it to feel like trying to compete in a Match when your Trigger only works 95% of the time, and has a 1/10 second lag when it does work :barf:

  14. I've currently got a Xbox 360 and love it.

Games and streaming movie stuff it works good.

For newest generation I'm saying "show me why I should upgrade". Of course, this will be the last holiday season that games are made for the current Ps4/xbox360; but other than that obvious factor I don't see why I'm going to shell out $400+, I've got what I need now and might ride it out for a few more years. (I don't play games as much, nowadays my time is taken up by other things).

One thing for sure, I hate that Xbox One's silly Kinect being _forced_ on me: An always-on Camera and microphone waiting for voice commands? It's a deal-breaker in my house. Add the silly "might work or might not" flailing-your-arms motion control and I say "no thanks"

    So I'll wait and see.

  15. Google has been forcing integration of YouTube channels (accounts) with Google+. You can resist it, but without Google+ integration a user cannot comment on videos, and channel owner cannot approve or remove comments that other people post on their videos.

Just curious to hear if anyone has successfully completed the linking of their YouTube account to Google+, and how it worked for them.

Just for FYI, I tried it a few weeks ago and had several problems:

I previously had no Profile or Pages under Google+. I tried to link my YouTube channel, which created a new Profile for me, and it sort-of worked. I could write new comments, but comments that other people wrote on my videos I could not see and could not remove a comment if I wanted to. Whenever I was logged-in to YouTube, up in the upper-right of the screen there is a "bell" icon for Notifications. But when I clicked on the Notifications it would tell me I needed to sign-in to Google+ even though I was already signed-in (e.g. I could go to my Google+ Profile and I was logged in, but for some reason YouTube was not seeing it).

I disconnected YouTube from Googe+ and tried re-linking it, same problems.

Eventually, I made it work by linking my YouTube channel to a Google+ Page, and not my main Profile. (in Google+, your Profile is your main account identity, but you can have multiple "Pages" underneath it for other things). Its just a bit weird when I login to YouTube, it asks me if I am acting as my main Profile or as my Page identity, but other than that it is working now. In some ways it may be better to have my YouTube channel linked to a Page, because a Page can have multiple Managers (Administrators) linked to it (e.g. for making new comments, removing bad comments, and removing spam). This also solves the problem of "how do I have someone else able to manage my account without sharing passwords": if you link a trusted person as a Manager of your Page, they can continue to perform administrative functions on the YouTube channel in your absence.

  16. someone mentioned the density of Gold as being close to lead, not true it is actually much heavier than lead. A cubic foot of lead weighs around 700lbs, a cubic foot of gold weighs closer to 1200lbs.

    ----------

Gold nuggets were used by the natives in Alaska for bullets (Muzzleloaders / Muskets back then), before all the Miners came-in and said "we use that stuff as money".

  17. M&P-15-22? I've been rockin' one in Steel Challenge and Rimfire competitions for a while now, love it. Also fun if you put a Suppressor on the end :) :) :)

  18. Are Suppressors allowed in steel challenge on a open rim-fire gun?

    Thanks

Maybe nothing against it in the rules, but practically the Timer cannot pickup your time unless the range is using a timer rig that is wired to the Stop Plate.

    From a competitive standpoint:

Don't take this the wrong way, but.....

You sound like I did back when I got my first suppressor.

Running a Suppressor on a Pistol is a novelty that quickly wears-off.

When reality sets in, It's heavy (even Rimfire), slows your transition times, and you still need to wear earplugs because of everyone else on the range banging-away with loud guns around you.

Timer will not pickup the sound because other gunshot sounds at the range override it (unless you have a timer wired to the stop-plate).

Nowadays my suppressor stays on my Rifle mostly.

unscrewing it and putting it in your bag for a few hours while you shoot the match.

Better lock it in your car to be sure: a Suppresor or SBR is a big target for Theft. You think you can trust other shooters at the range, but a NFA item is a whole 'nother story.

  19. Our local club calls it the Doughnut hole - young guy not married or perhaps married no kids - lots of shooting. Kids arrive and they phase out for years until spare time for the individual arrives.

    Yep, what he said.

Just incase y'all don't already know this is common to almost all hobbies, not just competitive shooting. E.G. The local Car Club / AutoCross club has the same effect: "young & single" or "Married W/O Kids", then people drop-off for a while, come back when "empty-nest" phase.

  20. So next weekend is the opening of small game season in south east Minnesota. What's the deal with 22 rimfire ammo..... Tell me what is it like in your area, because this is BS. It's 22 ammo for crying out loud.

    Did you just-now notice?

There has been a nation-wide panic buying of .22LR ammo since Dec 2012. People lined-up at WalMart in the mornings buying it up.

Its starting to let-up, if you buy online you can get .22lr ammo around 10-cents per round.

Finding .22lr on-the-shelf at WalMart still impossible around here (SouthEast USA).

    As for the shortage, well:

you can't reload for it, and most everyone has a .22 firearm usual rifle and pistol or multiple 22's.

As a rough estimate, if you calculate the total daily production from CCI .22lr and divide it by the number of WalMarts in the country it comes-out to about 200 rounds per store per day. A very rough estimate but you get the idea: if just a few people get the idea they should buy it, it don't last long.
