  1. I just checked and it works just fine with my SA 1911 (TRP Operator). It locks securely, and will only come out in the up direction when unlocked. The only thing is that because the 1911 has a rounded trigger guard vs. square on an STI/SVI the 1911 rocks back a little bit more than my STI can. This only happens if you push down on the magwell (i.e. are trying to do it). This doesn't seem to affect it holding the gun securely or in my couple minutes of playing with it even affect the draw.

  2. KWC isn't a very good brand. It looks like it's worth about $50 on ebay.

I don't know how many BBs fit in your mags, but 2.5-3 mags per fill is probably normal. Remember that the gas is cold when you fill the mag, so you'll get more pressure if you let it warm up a bit before you shoot. If you shoot slowly (where's the fun in that) you'd also get more shots per fill.

  3. Thanks for the responses guys. I guess you need 2 shotguns, one for trap/skeet/clay games, and a special one for the IPSC type games.

As I plan on using this more for clay type games, it sounds like the 391 is the way to go (in an semi-auto). I didn't know that the Browning Gold/SX2 wasn't as reliable. I like reliable.

  4. I have some new Starline and Winchester .45 brass for sale in the Classifieds section. Hope this isn't against the rules or anything as it's sorta on topic. Thanks.

  5. That 391 Silver is beautiful.

Everyone I've talked to, and most forums are in agreement that the Beretta 391 is THE autoloader to get for clays games (if you're going to get an autoloader). The problem is that I would also like the potential to use it to also play around in 3-gun or similar shotgun sports, and the limited mag capacity of the 391 is a real bummer.

What makes the 391 so much better than the Wincester SX2 or Browning Gold for clays games?

  6. I think the absolute best combination is a Dillon resizing die, Redding Competition Seating Die and a Lee Factory Crimp Die (FCD).

For .45 I use the Dillon resizing and seating dies and a Lee FCD.

For .40 I use the EGW U resize, Redding Comp Seater and Lee FCD.

I really like the Dillon resizer because it has a bigger mouth opening so that even if you don't place your brass into the first station quite right, it will still guide it in there. With the EGW (which is really a Lee ground down I think) sometimes I pull on the handle and only get about half way <_< .

Also, I don't think the Redding Comp Seating die is mandatory. It's expensive, but I got it just because I wanted to check it out.

  7. As has been said, any gun will do but for someone on a tight budget , you should consider what you need just to "play" the game. That is: a holster, mag holders, most likely more mags, and last but not least, lots and lots of ammo.

You probably don't have a reloader so you'll have to buy ammo, and since you have a .45 cal Glock 30, it's not going to be particularily cheap for you.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from playing with your Glock 30, but I do want to point out that a gun in 9mm will be much cheaper to play with.

  8. Hmmm... ;) Might be more sensible than CDs for backup. As long as the wallet holds out.

What you need to backup (size and sensitivity) will play a large factor in determining the proper backup method.

I run multiple drives in my system. One is a "system" drive and one is a "data" drive. It works really well for me. Windows and all programs reside on the "system" drive. So this way all I need to backup is my data drive. (I format and reinstall all programs on my system drive every now and then).

If the data is important, you should select the proper RAID format, preferably with at least 3 drives.

At a minimum though, buy a DVD burner (instead of using a CD burner). 4.3gb vs. 700mb per disc makes a huge difference and you can get 4x DVD burners on sale for less than $100. Blank DVDs on sale are $0.75-$1 each generally.

  9. C-class L10 with a Springfield TRP Operator .45 single stack (but I'm one classifier away from moving up to B ).

I recently got a widebody STI and reloading this thing feels like cheating compared to the SS. However, I don't have enough mags to use this thing in L10 right now (I carry 6-7 with the SS and I only have 4 for the STI).

  10. I am married with 2 kids (2 and 5). I love my family very much, and they take top priority in my life, but there does need to be some give and take. If you're not happy, what good are you going to be to your family?

I like to shoot, and right now, that's "my thing". My wife likes to sew. Good for her. It's not like I'm going to give up shooting and start sewing. But we also share and listen to each other's experiences and take/feign some interest.

As for as the time is concerned, I don't go overboard anymore. I get up early a couple days a month (on weekends) to shoot local competitions and I'm back by noon or 1 to spend the rest of the day with the family. Plus I'll spend an hour or so after work a couple days a month at the range to practice.

I'm never going to be a GM based on these habits, but then again, I'd probably have to quit my job if that was really my goal. I have fun and that's enough for me.

I think my 5yo son is almost ready to start shooting. I can't wait.

  11. I'm in Kaliban and while the Edge is not available to us (because STI is refusing to sell it here for now) I doubt you'd get $3k for one. Even $2k is a little optomistic. I recently bought an almost identical STI short dust cover for $1500.

Also, the only way to get one is to get it through a private party who has one already in Kali.

Of course, there may be some desparate people that are willing to pay $2-3k for one, but they're not going to be that easy to find.

  12. I use Radian's Pro-Amp e-muffs and I like them and they're cheap (about $70).

    23 db noise reduction.

    http://www.radiansinc.com/proamp.asp

I did have to send mine back because the left side went out but they sent me a new one really quickly, and it kind chews through batteries (I went rechargable so it's not a big deal any more), but other than that, I like them a lot.

BTW, I also bought a pair of the Caldwell e-muffs from Midway for $50... and they're AWFUL. I sent them back. Don't bother.

  13. Yes, the Lee Factory Crimp Die replaces the Dillon crimp die. As has been said, it full length resizes the case (and crimps of course). The Dillon crimp die crimps only. The crimp is also very easy to adjust on the Lee FCD.

I have one and I think it's great. EVERY round drops easily into a case gauge, so it can even save you time if you chamber check/case gauge your rounds. (I actually still do for rounds I'm going to shoot in a match, but this really is to weed out rounds with burrs on the case rim.)

And it's only like $10 so why not?

  14. Does anyone know if anyone makes a scope mount that would fit on an Springfield Operator's light rail? I want to mount a red dot. I'm looking for something that's removable, and that doesn't require drilling holes into the frame.

I recently started playing the different gun games (Steel Challenge and ISPC) with my TRP Operator and I wanted to see what shooting a dot is like to see if I really want venture into the realm of the open gun. Maybe I don't want to know and save wallet from the pain.

    Thanks.

  15. Well, I just looked at the match results for the club I'm going to be shooting at this weekend, and year to date, there have only been between 1-5 L10 shooters out of 40-50 each match, and there's one held every week! Check out http://jvdynamics.com/nrg/match_results/ and scroll down to previous Norco results.

I'm pretty happy with my shooting... I'll check, but I'll bet that I was in the top 10 for gross points (especially if you exclude penalties  ). I was just slow and at least part of that was because I kept duffing my reloads. Watching the top guys is useful, for little tricks and strategies, but I wish there was a good guy in L10 I could watch to see where/how he reloads.

I've practised reloads a bunch here at home. It just falls apart under pressure of the match. That's the biggest thing that I learned that I really really need to work on. But I also learned that reloading over my bed is dramatically different than reloading during a match. I think I'll practice reloading running around in the backyard (hope my neighbors don't see me).

  16. Heh, I was trying not to have to compare myself to the Limited guys because I didn't have very many good reloads. For whatever reason, I kept grabbing my #2 mag (I wear 2 double mag carriers) and also, when I did get a good reload in there I think I was in shock stared at my gun for a while. And actually there were a bunch of static reloads that I had to do. There were 3 stages where I didn't really have a choice (and the rest I blew my plan and went to slide lock  ).

So I guess I'll give L10 a chance before I "let" myself buy that S_I gun I've always wanted. It's hard being patient but the wait is good since there's rumors that STI will start selling guns here in Kalifornia again if some Federal legislation gets passed. I'm partial to the look of a full/extended dust cover and I'd like to buy an Edge. Otherwise, I can always buy the *1* SVI double stacker that's legal here.
