  1. I'm placing an order for some right now. I just got the Lyman 1200 Turbo tumbler and it's working great with the Lyman treated corn cob material but at $15 for 6lbs it's not even close to the deal you get here. 40 POUNDS for $21 with free shipping!!
  2. To all the other people who replied, Thank You for your input. I am still new here and am getting used to how things work. So far everyone has been polite and full of useful information. No one has gotten confrontational or rude. This really is a great form with awesome members. Thanks guys! Cheers, -James
  3. Thanks for the lifecycle of Tritium. That's interesting to know how it sort of "recycles" itself.
  4. Yes, they can swap parts (to some degree) and yes it wouldn't be production legal. The G35 can be made into a G34 with a barrel and mags, but the G34 can't be made into a G35. It was confirmed to me by G34Cordy that A Glock 34 slide and barrel will fit on a Glock 17 frame. Also, the Glock 34 and Glock 35 extended slide release and extended magazine release will fit on most other glocks.
  5. This is a great idea! Cost effective too. It's genius! This should be added to the list of loading essentials as I'm sure it would save the life of your tumbler's motor and help keep your cleaning media last a little longer.
  6. I've got a pair of digital calipers on order. As for the mini-fridge, that's an excellent idea. I'll give it a try and let you know how it works out. If it turns out to not have enough air for the motor then I'll rig up a box with two computer fans(one for an inlet and one for an outlet) to get some good airflow. I've got to find something though because this is a quiet apartment community and people are picky about anything audibly intruding into their home(as am I.)
  7. That sounds like a good load to me. Do you think Berry's Prefered 9mm 147gr Round Nose would work with the 3.3 grains of WST? To start out I'm going to buy a small amount of bullets, primers(Winchester or CCI), and powder(Winchester WST) from Cabela's until I get the hang of things and find a good load for my Glock 17. At that point i'll buy in bulk. For now I don't mind the $1-3 price difference per item.
  8. Thanks guys. As for the Glock bulge I am shooting 9mm in Limited and Production, not 40. It is my understanding the glock bulge was more of a problem with the 40 S&W cartridge. Please correct me if I am wrong. Sparky, I will give the Dillon dies a chance before I purchase any more dies. If I have any bulge problems when I upgrade to 40 S&W I'll keep the Lee "U" Die in mind. Trey, thanks for mentioning the motor needing to stay cool. I can rig up a fan in the tub or something to move air through it to keep it cool. I'll tinker with it and let you know what I come up with. Cabella's has their tumbler for $49. It looks pretty heavy duty for a store brand. I've had a LOT of people suggest that tumbler to me. It's only $10 more then the Lyman. I'll do a side to side comparison in the store and let you know what I go with. TexasShootR, thanks for the heads up on the primer seating punch and cup. Any particular Lube/Grease I should look for? jid2, thanks. I'm going to look a digital scale reviews right now.
  9. I just ordered the Dillon 550B with 9mm conversion kit and Dillon carbide die set from the Brian Enos store. I went with the Dillon and Dillon dies because I am familiar with the 550B and I want to get as much accuracy out of my reloads as I can. As for the accessories(like a tumbler, scale, measuring devices, etc) I don't feel the need to purchase all Dillon items. I am on a budget and would like to spend as little as I have to but still have equipment that will last relatively well and not leave me hanging. For example, I plan on using the RCBS primer tray from Cabella's for $5.99 and the Lyman 1200 pro tumbler($39 at Cabella's). As for a case/media separator I am going to make my own. What products have you guys found to be accurate and reliable without breaking the bank? Also, I live on a third floor apartment and am looking for ideas of ways to muffle the sound of the tumbler. I was thinking of placing a rubbermade tub on it and lay a blanket over the tub to quiet the sound. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any info you guys can pass on. Cheers, -James
  10. Thanks for the info guys. I didn't think such small amounts would cause any problems but I thought I would ask. Tyro, now you've got me thinking about air travel! Other than the luggage x-ray machines where else are we absorbing radiation?
  11. I was having trouble with my router and assumed that the post did not go through. When I got the router working again I hit the submit button again hence the double post. Thank you all for the warm welcome and the great information! Cordy, I just might take you up on that offer some day. When I make it down to a match in San Antonio I will let you know before hand. I think that for now I am going to stick with the Glock 17. I am very familiar with it and it seems the most reasonable as far as price and parts availability. Thanks again guys! -James
  12. I'm looking at purchasing a luminox watch as well as putting a set of Trijicon night sights on my handgun. Seeing how they both contain Tritium (, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, I was wondering what the chances are of them causing adverse health effects (maybe even cancer) if kept close to the body for a long time. I'm not a paranoid person by nature or a hypochondriac. They say prospective buyers can be assured that there is no health risk for those luminescent properties. I know that in theory the beta radiation given by Tritium should not be able to escape the capsule in which it is encased on gun sighs, and because of the mild energy output of beta radiation decay, it might not even go through human skin, but that's all general theory. The hallmark of these sights and watches is the traser illumination system. Instead of using luminescent paint which requires a "charge" of light to glow, Luminox and Trijicon use tiny glass tubes filled with tritium gas. Although it at first it sounded like fuel for an interplanetary starship, I later found out tritium is a substance that glows brightly in the dark. Now, any gas that glows worries me…reminds me of some kind of toxic ooze or something. For what it’s worth, any type of luminescent material, whether painted on or in liquid form, does have some radioactive properties. The military as well as some civilian watch and gunsight makers use the H3 designation required by the government. To me, if a set of sights or a watch requires an radioactive H3 rating, isn't there something that rating is warning you of? Has anyone heard of or had personal health issues from carrying tritium night sights close to the body for long periods?[/size]
  13. Hello all! I am new to these forums and new to USPSA. I'm a lifetime shooter and hunter. I've got a coworker/buddy who is teaching me how to reload and train for USPSA. Right now the big question for me is which gun to use. I'll be starting off in production class with a 9mm. I've narrowed down my gun options to the Sig Sauer p226 Elite, Glock 17, or possibly the Glock 34. I've rented the above as well as the Springfield XD, S&W M&P, Beretta 92, H&K USP, Walther P99 and a few others. Of all those I am most comfortable and most accurate with the Sig Sauer p226 and Glock 17. I'm leaning more towards the Sig Sauer because of it's top to bottom weight, it just feels better in my hand. Any opinions y'all may have on those two firearms would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to helping out here and being helped out. I've read some of the posts for a few weeks and am pleased with the atmosphere here. Peace, -James Ducros Austin, Tx
