Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. All good information but wondering what people think about Federals AE with such a short OAL. The factory ammunition measures approximately 1.0625+. I haven't read anywhere that anyone's loading this to such a short OAL. The reason I want to replicate this load is that it is very accurate in my M&Ps with no issues with PF.
  2. Thanks do you happen to have any chrono info with the VN320 load?
  3. This cartridge really shoots very well in my M&P pistols. I am intending to load some MGs 147gr FMJ FPs with N320. However, I am somewhat concerned with Federals OAL on this cartridge. It has about a OAL of 1.0625+ which seems really short when you start comparing it to what I have read on the forum for this bullet. I usually see something like 1.12 or more with anywhere between 3.2 grains to 3.8 of N320. Just wondering what your thoughts are on this 1.06 OAL as I am concerned with dramatically increasing pressure with such a short OAL. Federal advertises about 1000FPS at the muzzle but my experience is about 950 + though a 5 inch barrel. Comments would be welcome.
  4. They are probably busy filling my order There are about a thousand threads floating around the internet about the topic, one thing that is note worthy is that they are clearly bulk bullets (and won't compare well to high quality HP's), non-bonded and with questionable expansion results at best (ok, some say they are acceptable). ~g Well if you read through the whole thread MG HPs are not designed for self defense. That was confirmed by the company. With respect to my specific question I was not able to find a single thread on the internet discussing the design benefits for this particular bullet from MG. If you find one I would be appreciative if you could point it out. Thanks
  5. I have tried a number of times both with calls and e-mails. While I like their bullets and use thousands I don't like they way they handled this simple question.
  6. Can't believe I still don't have a response from the company. I have sent them another e-mail and a call and nothing. I'm really surprised.
  7. Now that we have agreed they are not designed for SD work still wondering what are the advantages of a SJHP for target work. After posting this I called MG directly. The person on the phone confirmed that none of their bullets are designed for defensive purposes. When I asked her for the design advantages of a SJHP she asked me to e-mail their tech which I have done. I will post if I get an answer.
  8. As far as I am aware MGs are principally designed for range use. Still wondering what advantages for target shooting does a SJHP provide?
  9. Wondering why this bullet is constructed with a copper jacket but has a nose of lead showing similar to a JSP but in HP more correctly called a semi- jacketed HP. Most JHPs I am familiar with are totally copper with no lead showing which are meant for target shooting. If this was meant as a self defense round I would not ask the question. Does anyone know the advantages of this type of construction in a target bullet?
  10. Thanks all most out of N320. Just ordered 8lbs.
  11. Went to Midway about an hour after you posted and they were already out. THEN about 10 minutes ago I got an email from Midway that BE was available! Of course it isn't. LOLThey were out within 10 minutes.
  12. Midway has Bullseye 8lb and Unique 8lb jugs now.
  13. Thanks I have been looking for Titegroup for quite some time.
  14. Lots of good suggestions. I used a 650 with a powder check station. even with that I visually checked every case by looking into prior to placing a bullet on top of the case. When I went to an automatic bullet feeder I was no longer able to visually check the powder. I have 2 safeguards first is that I use a bulky powder. Number two I weigh every finished cartridge. Very easy and very fast. I am looking for a weight variance. I have been reloading for about 15 years and to date I have never seen or weighed an overcharged cartridge.
  15. I currently load 4.1 grains of n320 with a MG 124 gr JHP at about 1.135. Very accurate from my Dan Wesson 1911 9mm pointman 9. Also works well in another 3 or 4 non 1911 9s. I think the JHPs have a better accuracy reputation then the FMJs
