  1. here's a pic of my old steel gun its had 3 or 4 different scopes on it over the years and allot of ammo has been through it mostly Neal 122 cast bullets about every 4000rds I would scrap out the comp and run a comp reamer down down it and it would be ready to go again.

  2. I agree my past experience with #7 wasn't good it was to dirty for me in cold conditions and yep on the 4756 im going to get a 8 lbs jug it should last a long time with the amount of shooting these days

  3. Very interesting thread I know our club is going to host some IDPA shoots this coming summer and hopefully even an IDPA 3 gun with the intention of getting some new shooters to come out I know our ruger 22 challenge sure brought out allot of new shooters some have already starting to gear up to shoot USPSA with us next season so hopefully will get a new batch of shooters come out and shoot IDPA with us and learn the appropriate range etiquette and safety rules and then maybe some of them will come and shoot one of our 350-400 rd USPSA 3 gun matches. We can always hope B)

  4. I just tried 4 powders yesterday in my 38s 5.5" with egw 6port comp I used v v n105 and v v 3n38 and IMR 4756 and autocomp all loaded with 115 Winchesters to a 170pf all seemed clean in my gun I shot a total of 300rds and gun is still clean enough to shoot a match. My 2 favorites were v v 3n38 and IMR 4756 they were so close in felt reciol and dot recovery I would call it a wash with those 2 in my gun. the autocomp felt recoil was good but dot movement was allot more than the others and the n105 did make the old comp work but felt recoil was noticeably more. After a couple of bill drills I noticed that I definitely shot faster and more accurate with v v 3n38 and IMR 4756 factor in price and availability looks like I will be ordering up a big jug of IMR4756. Mark

  5. All kidding aside Pat next time you guys come down (bring your pistols )I will show you some drills that that make the transition from iron sites to the dot easier mainly to get your focus off the gun and on the target and to trust your cadence at different distances. And maybe show you one of old walk through sticks that we use to use back in the day. Mark,

  6. I have had good luck with 1911 style pistols with cast bullets both are springfield armory 38 supers I just keep velocity under 1000 fps shooting Colorado cast 135gr with 231 powder they have good accuracy and cheap to shoot I have shot many 1000s of these with minimal leading.

  7. Ya it is a blast to shoot it has a crisp pop in your hands dot doesn't really move its more of a vibration its a stock ruger barrel threaded to 1/2 28 volquartsen trigger set at 2lbs I am shooting this thing faster than I ever shot a 22 on steel and I have been doing it since 82. This Ruger challenge stuff is fun.

  8. One of the top shooters had an article on sighting in a IPSC gun way back in the day he would sight in at 20yds and get elevation perfect then shoot at 50yds to get windage perfect then double check impact at 3 7 10 15 25 35 50 and I have stuck with that ever since and its worked pretty good all around, Mark,

  9. I have shot a buckmark with the T&S setup with there comp but I prefer a miculec comp or a jp the treads are 1/2x28 same as a AR here's my 22/45 with a miculek comp much quicker fill and you don't have to worry about the timer picking up your shots ITS noisy.

  10. Being a shooter and moto-x and snowmachine racer for the last 25 years one of the best and simplest exercise for the arms and grip is pretty simple cut a broom stick 30" long about 6'of 1/4" line 1 gallon jug of water standing roll it up and down first knuckles up then knuckles down at first you can't do very many in a couple of weeks you can get to 100 Guarantee you will have a good grip and super forearms. Mark,

  11. Yep it will take a couple loads but I have a steel load from back in the days when we used to shoot 45 for every thing 3.8 gr red dot 200 hg68 if I remember correctly it was pretty soft shooting.

  12. My thoughts exactly I have some 1911's but I have grip safety's deactivated and mag wells on them for USPSA and steel shooting It would be nice to have one gun for all the auto class's and shoot what ever class the most people showed up for that weekend.

  13. Our club started 22 ruger challenge with pistols & rifles its its been a great success we started out about mid summer 5-7 shooters by the time of the first snow we had a couple nights 28-29 shooter were expecting a good turn out for USPSA and IDPA this spring already had several new shooters ordering up new guns.

  14. Yep kinda went by direction sighted in at 30yds for now Im still working on a load I was using 115 winchesters with autocomp where doing pretty good didn't put it on paper from a rest but was hitting empty shotgun shells at 30.Hadn't used it much yet but I like the C-MORE..
