Power pistol, true blue, and auto comp should all be decent choices for your goal. Slightly slower, gassy powders at max charges (or maybe even over max) in slightly longer OAL rounds will get you closer to where you want to be. Silhouette is also an option. Most any of the Open pistol powders can work.

At a 3-gun match several years ago stage 1 started with 5 ten inch plates, swingers at 110 to 120 yards.  Shooter had to engage each plate once and go back and re-engage each plate again....the AR platform had no problem with the plates.  Competitors could also use a rest.  We had two ak's and one mini-14 ....all three went thru 2 or 3 magazines and all three did not engage all the plates with the required round before going to the next set of targets.   Fun gun to shoot but....

Those aren't at all impossible targets with the Mini-14 or AK. While not generally regarded as the best option, they can be made serviceable if in the hands of someone who has practiced sufficiently.

I would imagine that the problem was that the shooters running them hadn't practiced much if at all and even with an AR and equal practice time, they would likely have been equally unsuccessful on that stage.

I recall shooting with a guy a few times who ran a dang SKS in some carbine matches and he could absolutely hold his own with it on 3-4 MOA targets out to 300 yds or so. I suspect he practiced a bit with it...

Not all rifle barrels are not the same, i own multiple rifles in 243 caliber, my custom barrels and my Sako A7 and Tikka T3 in 243 shoot on the average about 100 feet per second faster that my Remington and Ruger's with the exact same ammo all are very accurate. If you want load book velocities or better, use a better barrel or different load data, simple. ;o)

    Ummm...

    1) - Holy unhelpful necro-post Batman.

    2) - Nope.

people shoot .308 down an AK or 7.62 AR barrel fairly often. Cant speak to the accuracy though!

    Its an SKS after all.

    Not a quarter-minute precision rifle...

Dang wish I would have seen this before ordering a Pocket Pro 2 a few minutes ago. Do you think its just a lemon or have you heard of others having problems with theirs?

These are great timers. Nothing wrong with ordering one at all.

OP likely needs to send his in for checkup as it sounds like something is wrong with his.

I got one drilled it all out, did all the tricks and I can't say it was any better than what I started with. With all the hype I was expecting at least some improvement, but maybe it just isn't cut out for 458 SOCOM. 😂

What do you run on a 3-Gun rifle these days, Kurt? For a comp. Just curious...

It depends.... .50 BMG or .50 Action Express or 50 Wyoming Express or .50 JRH or .500 S&W Magnum or .500 Linebaugh or .500 Maximum.

Any of these is a bit more money per round than say 9mm.... especially the Browning Machine Gun stuff....😎

Pretty sure that anytime it's just left at "50" we can safely assume BMG.
