  1. Looking for a little info. Does anyone run one on their svi? I have an infinity open gun with the svi mount. Rts 2. The mount has 3 screws on the left and two on the right. I want to try a thumb rest but I'm having trouble finding out which one will fit the mounting holes. The only one I think that may work is from IPSC Alex? Also when I find one, is the job easy if done myself? I'm not much of a tinkerer but it's 3 screws! Just looking for a little insight. Thanks.

  2. I'd stick to slower powders. Try AA7 and 115 grain bullets. Or just use the 124s you have. Check for some load data on here for a starting point. It's cheaper but dirtier. It may clean up as you push up the Power factor. So try going for the 175 PF or more. Hs6 and SIL will be OK but they are a little faster. What kinda gun do you have? Honestly powder isn't that expensive. Compared to everything else. Powder valley has great prices. When you order bulk, the cost savings vs buying local wipes out the hazmat fee and then you can throw primers, bullets whatever on you order.

Grams guts and base pad rock. 11mm on the 140's and a 2.5mm on my SVI 170 fits the gauge.

Bevin warrantys  base pad for life and the are easy to clean. 11 coil springs in 140's and 13 coil in big sticks. Grams all the way,

How many rounds do you get with all grams in a 170 SVI mag?

  4. With the mbx, you should start with the mbx guts, follower and basepad. They are good how they are.  With SVI I like TTi followers springs and grams or Dawson basepad. I don't like how TTi basepads come off. Some folks don't mind. Grams springs and followers are good too. Should be able to get at least 29 rounds out of the 170 mags. I run the grams 2.5mm pad on my 170. Could maybe use the 4mm but would need a gauge because it will be close.

Use a 13 coil Grams with Grams 38 super follower. You will get 28 rounds with a Dawson or Grams basepad. Function will be 100%. The 9mm follower is only needed in STI mags. Glad to see you getting back into Open.

Thanks! Yea couldn't stay away. Moved back toward the metro area and will be ready to go for next year. Hope to see ya at the range.

I'd try new spring and follower, first.

Could be the mag is out of spec, also.

Ok  whose should I use? TTi has two followers from what I see. An Sti 9mm ( which Im Guessing is for sti mags with spacer) and an StI/SV universal follower. I just want to be sure before I buy but I'm guessing the universal is the one I want. What are the other options for these mags? There's a lot out there on the forum but it's tough to read through and find the one that works best.

  7. I've got a set of two Old style SVI 170mm mags for use in my 9 major open gun. They have Bolen followers and Taren basepads. When I got em I loaded em up to 29 ( with factory American eagle it was all I had at the time) to make sure they work and they were solid and fed fine. Now I took my reloads to the range and started loading up the mag and 9 rounds into it I got a rattle. There's still pressure on the top round. So I shot it just for giggles 10 rounds worth and no malfunctions.  One thing I noticed is the spring and follower were quite twisted ( corkscrewed actually) when I pulled em out. Would this cause the rattling? So what can I do? Tti follower and spring? If so do I use their universal follower? I don't know a lot about these old style mags so just looking for a little insight. It's no big deal to run a new spring or follower I just want reliability. Thanks

  8. I've been testing out zero 121 jhp with my svi imm (2 holes in barrel) and 9.6 was getting me 175 PF or so. Really full case so I wanna try out 124/5's and see if I can't make it a little easier to load. Nice load though. So for me 115s is just gonna be too much powder as I'm not seeing the speed needed. so maybe get some bullets in small amounts and try. The 3n38 will work but just maybe not with 115s. If it means anyhing, AA7 and 115s (10.6 grains) got me 175 pf or so and shot very similar to 3n38. I'm going to have to make a decision on what to go with in the long run. Good luck post your results if you can. More info is always nice.
