  1. Yep!! Jesse is right, that is the only knock on Armalite. My point was they used to, but that doesn't seem to carry water. Oh well. And Jesse is right about a bunch of other big names!!! That is why I don't recomend any kind of laundry soap, oil companies, soft drinks, beer companies, or sport,s drinks. They don't support our sport! I bet they don't care at all about 3-gun!..,......Thank God water is still one of our major sponsores! Just look at how much it gave to the Blue Ridge Mountain Match!!! :)

I thought JT had his own sports drink line already? I don't always drink sports drink, but when I do, I drink JT's Elixir.

  2. What is the "cleaning" that you speak of? I lube and shoot mine.

Yep...a little CLP every 1000 rounds or so (NiB bcg) and wiping it off whenever it looks nasty. The last time i cleaned my NiB bolt was when it looked like a phosphate due to the grime. I was getting occassional light primer strikes due to gunk build-up in firing pin channel. Wiped err off and she runs like a champ still.

  3. Millions of clay birds are shot yearly at registered events without safeties being engaged...ever. Many of those firearms even have release triggers. Out of habit I flip my safeties on way too much while moving and then forget to take it off while engaging targets. This is most apparent on shotguns where safeties aren't as easy to manipulate as an AR-15. I don't mind the safety rules at start but I've seen some very unsafe weapons handling after the safety gets turned off that worries me more than a long gun with the safety off at the start.

Oh...and clubs that require long guns to be staged cruiser ready are stupid. The extra firearms manipulations confusions caused, especially a new shooter, make for a much less safe match.

With respect I like the cruiser ready starts for guns that are not in your hands at the start. Seems safer because the weapon is not direclty under the shooters control until he grabs it and it adds some good training to those of us who keep our guns like that at home or work for self defense.

    Pat

Cruiser ready firearms dont really affect someone who is profficient. I do feel they make a newer shooter fumble and due to the confusion it can cause them to swing their muzzle or put their booger finger on the trigger a bit too much. This was really apparent at the Zombie match.

  5. Anybody know which lifter/carrier the 1301 has in it? Gonna go ahead and order one to send to C-Rums.

The 1301 factory lifter isnt as nice as my C-Rums modified Versamax lifter. However, its not bad. You may not need to send it off honestly.

  6. Ok getting ready to order my Nordic +5 from Joebob’s should i get the Nordic Extension tube barrel clamp or is it needed.

Id say its optional. The nova nuts have the most thread engagement. Wouldnt hurt though.

  7. I was able to shoot Kampr after the match today and was definitely impressed. Overall a really well put together gun at its price point and very fast shooting. Definitely softer shooting than my M2 but not as soft as a Versa max. Sights came back quicker though and the trigger was great for a out of the box gun !

I concur. One of the employees at our store bought one of our 24" 1301s yesterday. I shot it side by side today with my 26" Versamax. IMO the recoil is softer than an M2 but not quite as soft as the Versamax. However the 1301 is also substantially lighter.

The larger controls on the 1301 are really nice. I find it personally easier to load the Versamax with a dual load system but the 1301 isnt bad.

I felt the 1301 shot naturally better than my Versamax but i havent shot my Versamax all that much. We're shooting both in a match tomm so we'll see how that goes.

Any ideas on which extension will put you about end of a 24 inch barrel ....+4 ??

Id recommend going with a +5 nordic tube if you have the 24" and use a dual load system. This will allow 2 shells to be loaded at the start of a match if it would be benficial on a certain course of fire. Then the gun will have a 10+1 capacity.

The +5 is only a tiny bit beyond the barrel on the 24" 1301. We actually recycled an older style +5 Nova tube for the 1301 we setup today and shot.

  8. Supply & Demand....

Products are only worth what someone is willing to pay.

If I want to buy your property, whether it be your house, your classic Corvette, or your Glock 19 then I will have to pay market price. The market price on all items does vary based on supply and demand. Baseball cards, Furbies, Beanie Babies, and PMAGs may vary in price over a set period of time.

People will always want to get maximium value for selling their property. If they don't sell it at X price then they'll lower the price or be stuck with the product. The same is true for retailers or private sellers.

Some used guns bring a higher value than others when compared to the MSRP. Comparing it to a military discounted price is an extremely skewed way to look at price shopping as a whole. Military discounts are not an entitelment, but they can save a good bit off of retail. Not all retailers do this. We give 5%, for example, even on used guns.

Stating something shouldn't be sold above retail is a bit silly. Look at gas prices...or stock prices...or gold prices...or home prices...or natural gas prices...or *****?

Propane for instance has gone down over recent years. I'm not going to pay the "retail" price of 2010 if I can get it cheaper now. I'm also going to strive to sell my property at the current market value, which may be below or above what some consider the ceiling on price.

Personally, I try to buy low and sell high, regardless if its a personal or business transaction. Many times this is not obtainable, but its a good goal. If someone asks too much for a product then they'll net a 0% profit on their unreasonable price. If someone buys the product, then it was worth that much to that individual and nobody got hurt. One seller doesn't control the market so its not really "gouging". There is no monopoly there.

Hoping i can find a way to convince my wife to let me have ONE more match in October to make it to this one again!

It looks like you beat me by 4 match points at the Nordic match in Sparta..but you cheated. You had a Semi-Auto ;).

It looks like a handful of us from out here in the middle of Kansas are planning on attending. We're sending in registration here soon...

  10. Is that a 21 inch barrel?

His is, yes. It has a 3 shot extension on it.

The 24" 1301's just started shipping. One of our suppliers just got some in today.

Are ya’ll going to carry them? I am thinking I need a 24 inch.

Yessir. We plan on stocking them and have a handful arriving within a couple days.

  11. I have a couple 870 wingmasters and bought a Super Nova solely for shooting in competitions. I didn't feel bad about cutting up or stippling the plastic stock and its also better suited for competition use than an 870 due to the loading. At the Nordic Tactical shotgun match a few weeks ago the vast majority of manual division shooters had Super Novas. I don't think I saw more than a few pumps that were something other than a Nova or Super Nova. Benellis have the edge for competition use currently, IMO.

  12. It looks like most people don't like the idea of altering capacity for tac optics (terribly named division) but are in favor of altering the equipment and/or capacity for limited (also a terribly named division) to make it a more stand alone division that is actually different than tac. I hope that if something like this were to occur it would be done so with the hopes that it would increase participation by current shooters as well as encourage new people to join in the fun.

I like being able to shoot in several different divisions and I like to be able to use different gear. It seems like right now that limited is just tac jr and worthless as far as I see it and I think that participation at most matches reflects that. But, like some people have said about revolver and also I've heard said about limited in 3-gun, if its going to die, let it die. Is that the right way to go? Would it be better to make some changes to the division to possibly generate more interest? Would it help if there were better sponsor support and prize tables for the division? I don't know but I would like to see something happen.

    Just my thoughts

Prizes typically arent as good for anyone beyond the first couple places in less popular divisions, from what ive seen. People gravitate to the more popular gear and bigger prizes.

  13. I have done timed runs comparing my Benelli M2 to my 870 and there is a difference.

    Pat

Sure. Comparing cyclic rate of a pump versus a semi at a static target array will always yield the semi auto as the victor. However, a typical match has movement and loading elements too. 870s arent exactly the best to load hence why they're not big on the 3gun circuit.

IMO, it seems that he who loads his shotgun the fastest on each stage wins the stage and possibly the match. Hence why there is so much innovation and such a race to find the perfect loading equipment and system. You dont see the same equipment race on pmag or glock mag retention.

Even in a shotgun-only match like the Nordic competitions the top pump shooters didnt give up a whole lot to the tactical shooters. And of course there is still an equipment race on who can modify their supernova the best to pump and load faster.

Around here at least, it seems like most "new" shooters may have an 870 at home but do not feel confident enough with it to shoot in a match. Thus theyll spend the 6-1400 to get into a semi auto shotgun and then modify it. Nobody likes to lose, regardless of skill level.

If limited only allowed pumps id still shoot it but I think even more would avoid it. I feel it would be due to lack of confidence with a pump and wanting to avoid dropping the coin on an additional competition-worthy pump. Personally, I dont mind shooting a pump but i know i should typically shoot faster with a semi. I still feel limited doesnt have enough class differentiation from tacops though.

  14. A pump shotgun isn't really a handicap at that level. Pat Kelley was 14th overall this last weekend at the Nordic match shooting a pump. Heck a normal guy like me was 33rd overall. That means I beat about 100 guys with open or semiauto guns. In a shotgun only match.

I you can't load 8 rounds in 5sec or so it won't matter that you have to pump the gun anyway.

Lets be honest....Pat is a freak of nature. He pumps like hes been shooting pro for a few decades.

I dont see pump as a big disadvantage in a typical match.

Id like to see limited with some restrictions of some type. Its an odd, slightly neutured TO right now. Its not much disadvantage at all, really. Mag caps on rifles souldnt change much in most matches though.

  15. Thanks to everyone who helped plan and run the match. It was INCREDIBLY well ran with quite a few unique elements. The match was great for competitors and sponsors due to the class acts and dedication shown by all those involved. Hopefully 2014 will bring additional capacity for more shooters and will continue to drive a bigger sponsor table. Based on what I saw, it looked like most of the people were able to walk away from the prize table with items equivalent to their entry fee, if not much higher. That says something about the caliber of the match, IMO, with only one firearm platform being shot at this shoot.

I rarely comment on matches, but I have to say, this was a great match. The sponsor support was excellent. I picked up a nice scope off the prize table which was donated by Joe Bob Outdoors, and Joe Bob was standing right in the room, so I was able to go over and shake his hand and personally thank him for their support. I would have signed up on the spot for the 2014 match had registration been open.

Good shooting and congrats! Those Vortex Viper PSTs are great scopes for the money, and even better for free!

Don't mind that "Jesse" character. He's just upset because I'll never shake his hand due to the large amount of "Hair Product" on it ;)

They rolled out the Red Carpet for Jesse as he hit the Holiday Inn Suites in St Cloud...

Those sunglasses he has never go out of style. They may not be ballistic but they sure are FABULOUS!

Wanted to compliment all the MN 3gun guys that put this on, what an awesome match. All the RO's were super friendly, fair and kept everything running smooth. I didn't sign up for this match until it was full but got on the waiting list and a few days before the match I got a call from Jomar and got in. I had the pleasure of shooting on squad 4 with an awesome group of guys and girls. When you get a great squad like that it makes the match just that much better, all the Nordic guys were great, the Zeppelin boys, the Joe Bob guys, the Paynes, Katie, everyone was super friendly and made for a great weekend. Even though I finished mid pack I still got some awesome prizes so Thanks to all the great sponsors too. Just started doing competitions this summer but this is a match I will do every year now - Thanks everyone - Brad

I would also like to thank my squad mates. Many of you I knew before this match, but some I just met for the first time. I want to thank you all for all your hard work in resetting, and for making this match so much fun. I'm sure that everyone else can say the same thing, but it is people like those men and women that I shot with that make this sport so special. I truly believe that no matter how well you do, how great your prizes are, or what awards you may win, the absolute best thing about this sport is the people. It is for this reason above all others that I will be coming back. Is 2014's registration open yet?

It was great shooting with you guys. The squad makes the match, IMO. Our squad ran smoothly and everyone helped out resetting which definetly helped on the larger stages. I got taught a thing or two as well!

Nate: I've been putting off shooting my new Versamax due to these shotgun matches (Sparta & St Cloud), but I'll be "attempting" to quad load as fast as you can as I get a bit more proficient with the new platform. I'm not sure if I'll end up sticking with Dual or going with Quad at this point. If there is ever a Quad Load "model", you have my vote. I think Wes has a man-crush on your quad-load, and I told him I wouldn't tell anyone. If you ever need assistance with hair tips for YouTube videos hit up my boy Jesse "Perez" Tischauser.

We remembered on Thursday evening that we had forgot to round up shirts for the match to give away. We scrounged up what we could find, but we ended up with far less than we would have liked to bring. If anyone didn't get one at the match and wants one, feel free to shoot us an email with your address and mention the shoot. We'll give (1) free shirt to those who attended and weren't able to snag one off of the side prize table.

  16. Try Big Lake, MN - there is a small "America's Best Inn" 763-262-7666. As of a few minutes ago, they still have rooms. It isn't 4 star, but it beats the truck.

You might try further down 10 as well. Elk River, etc. has more hotels and it will be a 30 minute or so drive.

I have a spare bedroom, but you would have to stain my deck on Monday so I can go watch the match Sunday.

Thanks for the heads up. If I was traveling by myself I could sleep in an alley surrounded by my own bodily fluids like usual. But my Princess is along and it is our anniversary. So I gotta keep it real.

Thankfully Team Noveske was hoarding a room and got me hooked up. Now momma is gonna get free wifi and breakfast at the Holiday Inn for our anniversary!

I was going to offer to let you sleep with Wes (you know you've thought about it) and I would let your wife take whichever side of the bed she wanted, due to it being a special weekend for her and all. However, it looks like you got it covered.

You didn't book your hotel until today AND you're going to be hoofing it at the match? That's pretty Semi-Pro....

You're right! I'm taking you're car, room, and boytoy!!!

For the record, I don't claim him in most circles as my "boy toy". You guys could share hair product secrets and gossip...goody! That sounds like a lovely time.

  18. Correction for scoring method on Clay stages have been made. No changes to any actual scores or stages will be made. Results stand as posted. Again, I sincerely apologize for the confusion and the situation created by the scoring issue. We have tried to be as fair as we possibly can and we hope that everyone understands.

    https://practiscore.com/match-results/uuid?uuid=2D96D57A-88E6-432F-A3F6-A3557BC59696

You may need to refresh your browser to see the updated results.

Perhaps I don't quite understand how the aerial targets were scored originally, and how they are scored now. I'm by no means an expert on the scoring algorithims and complexities. They appeared to have been originally scored exactly as they were stated in the booklet, correct?

Now the aerial targets appear to be scored very weird?

IE: I shot a 24/25 in Skeet with a pump. I set the curve on skeet and received 125 stage points. However, someone who shot a 12/25 would get roughly 85 stage points, with half of the targets hit out of the total targets presented.

Does this make any sense at all? Previously they were weighted just like any other stage. If you missed the target, you got a penalty. I shot the "Duck Blind" stage well, and hit all the aerial targets. Had I missed any of the aerials I would have been penalized, just like the original aerial target scores that were posted.

It appears the original way of scoring aerial targets was in line with every other scoring method. Now it appears to be "changed" to appease particular shooters, but I could be completely wrong.

Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays are very popular shotgun games. Aerial targets are what the shotgun was designed for, and thus why they were thrown in the mix on a "Practical" shotgun competition. Good shooters should be able to shoot clay targets flipped up by a steel target the same as a skeet target. In fact, trap and skeet targets are very consistent compared to how poppers throw up clays randomly, so they should be considerably easier to master for a beginner, let alone a Pro. Scores at registered trap and skeet tournaments are very boring, as there are many perfect scores. You don't see that in any other shooting disciplines that I've ever seen.

What was the reasoning for treating aerial targets on some events differently from every other event? There was no "time" on trap, skeet, or Sporting Clays...so how can a time be assigned after the fact? The scores written on the score-card were simply a dead or lost target. All of a sudden there is very minimal penalty for missing targets which was not the way it was spelled out in the booklet. Stage 4 IIRC was thrown out because of inconsistent aerial targets. All of those aerial targets gave a penalty, if missed. All of the skeet, sporting, and trap targets were identical.

The charcoal stage had no set number of targets, but was timed. Only hits were counted. The clay target games had a set number of targets, the same as every other stage in the event. There was no way to shoot additional clay targets if you had "extra time" as if you were shooting charcoals under the clock. I sucked on the charcoal stage (only 4 hits), but I still got 68% of the match points compared to Jansen who shot 12, who also shot a pump. That seems off? I would think I should, logically, get substantially less match points.

Scores from Squad 10 (as was mentioned previously) were wrong on the Slugfest. We had instructions on this COF to shoot (1) A zone or (2) anywhere. Those instructions caused our squad's times to be substantially longer. Even Rustin (who shot very fast compared to most on our squad) was incredibly slow compared to the rest of the Pro pack due to not having a static RO present at that stage.

IMO: As a match director, I'd be more concerned with fixing the major score discrepencies caused by inconsistencies due to not providing static RO's than I would be with changing the way targets are scored for different events. This is especially true AFTER the scores were in the books and arbitration was over. Consistencies in scoring will likely keep previous shooters and sponsors coming back for future events, as well as increase the chances of potential future attendees and sponsors.

  19. Wow! What a great match. I'm completely exhausted. I've got a twisted ankle, blisters, a burnt thumb and what I hope is diaper rash but I still have a smile on my face.

Thanks to Rob our fearless RO for keeping us going. Thanks to all the staff, Aaron, Ryan and Jeremy for getting a real match at a really awesome facility.

When do applications for next year come out?

I did notice that diaper rash on your face but I don't think it was from a diaper?

We all had a fun time at the match! Thanks for all those that made it happen.

Just a suggestion, It might have been nice to have a food truck going around selling food for lunch.
