  1. The one thing I love about the Xtrema is the ability to shoot 3.5" magnum loads. I hit a double spinner at the Montana Multi Gun with one and it spun six times. Any long distance poppers or steel or hammered down with no issues when some guys are pounding at them with little luck. Can't use them in USPSA matches, but most outlaw matches allow them.

  2. What choke for slugs, will a LM and a slug harm my barrel?

I asked Beretta and they told me no smaller than IC, but I use modified and have fired hundreds with no issues.

    And no sabots.

  3. Fun match. Good stages. Time + scoring made it a lot easier and moved it along much quicker. Have shot many 3 Gun and Multi Gun matches, but this was my first USPSA Multi Gun. The rules were not as horrible as I expected from USPSA, but they sure need a lot of improvement/change if they ever want to attract the kind of crowds all the other multi gun matches draw.

The staff all worked really hard and did a great job. A big thanks to the sponsors that make it happen. MGM Targets, Primary Weapons Systems, Predator Tactical, DPMS, Sierra, Higher Capacity Magazines, WARNE Scope Mounts and anyone that I missed.

  4. I run an Extrema II and like it. Go with the Briley Mag Extension and get the biggest that fits your gun. Mine is 12 or 13 + 1. The specific match will determine the rules for capacity and loading. In outlaw matches, I have to start at 8 + 1, but as soon as the buzzer goes off, I can grab 4 off the belt and load them. USPSA is the only match I have shot that does not allow more then 8 + 1 in the gun at any time (Tac Optics), but there are probably others. Without a unified rule set, you just need to check each match. But the higher capacity the better for me. They also make it in the Extrema camo patterns if that matters to you.

You should also get the extended bolt handle and bolt relase button. Both are inexpensive and easy to install. They will up your game a little for low cost. Then you need chokes. Briley again offers the extended chokes in every size you could need. I use LM, IM, M and IC.

If you are going to shoot slugs in a match and you probably will, the Extrema sucks with just the front fiber. You will need low recoil slugs and a front sight. Many Extrema users go with the Williams Firesights front and rear fiber sights. The truglow are also good to go. You just need to make sure you have windage and elevation on your rear sight and mount it as far back as possible. On the receiver is the best, but mine in on the rib. Mounting can be done yourself easy enough.

The last thing I can think of is getting your gas system opened up a bit. I have yet to do this, but really need it done. Running less than 3 1/4 DRAM in my gun is impossible as is, but opening the gas ports, I have been told will let you run the cheap stuff.

Bennie Cooley runs an Extrema, so don't let anyone tell you it won't work in 3 Gun.

  5. I just shot Nationals in Limited with my 5.25. It ate the Winchester white 115, Am Eagle 125 & 147 as well as Rem UMC 115. All made power factor just fine. I think I came in at 141. No malfunctions the whole match. I don't know how it groups, but it shoots a lot of A's.

  6. I'm not sure who will win overall, but sandbaggers win the lower classes. I'm over 200 points below the guy running 1st in my class, and I have shot a good match with one minor brain fart that might be 25 of those points, max. Heck, there is a guy shooting in D class that is 31st overall and even has a 3rd and 7th place stages. I really wish USPSA had a way to deal with people like that.

  7. I have a WSM II holster I am not using yet and thought I might use it for my XDm 5.25 if it fits. I see they sell a modified WSM II holster for Glock/XDm but it looks to me it is modified to fit an open gun. Will my 5.25 safely work in my model? I just want to be sure it won't fall out and get me a DQ. Thanks.

  8. I am looking to get all three for my XDm 5.25. Has the Arredondo or Power Pistol extenstions been getting more play and what brand is running better? The Arredondo looks like it could fall off if treated roughly, but is a lot cheaper cost. I was looking at the Power Pistol Unlimited for a Magwell. Anyone using it?

  9. I just ran the Remington UMC stuff that comes in the yellow box. 115gr. It made power factor for SSP and shot the whole 15 stage Idaho State IDPA Match with zero malfunctions. Plus, it was cheaper than the winchester white box and softer shooting and lower power factor.

  10. I shot it this weekend at the Montana State Multi-Gun and just loved it. Only shot out to around 450 with it, but the BDC dope I had combined with what weaver provides was spot on. We had 14 rifle targets on stage one, from 150 out to 400 and I only had to throw 2 extra rounds to nail each one twice. I also had the best finish I have yet had at a multi-gun match, so this scope is a keeper for me. I will still go for the Leu 1-6 with a custom reticle when they come out, but the Weaver will stay in the game.
