  1. I seem to be stuck with the 1.135" COL for almost all my 9mm loads. Runs good in the Spartan, XD, XDm, and the M&P 9 Pro. Just checked out some 147's loaded at 1.140 with Solo 1000 (1st time I've used it) and had outstanding results.

  2. I use the CC 140 extensions with the Pistol Gear Patriot magwell. My assumption would be that they will work with the Unlimited as well. If no one has a definite answer you might go to XDTalk and post the question in Pistol Gear's forum. Sure to get an answer from the horse's mouth that way.

  3. My Pro shoots a little low as well. From what I have read online you can't use a 6 o'clock hold. Cover the bullseye (or whatever you're aiming at) with the front sight and you should be good to go. After shooting XD's with the 6 o'clock hold sight picture it took me a little getting used to but now it seems to shoot where I aim. Just ordered DP adjustable rear and .265" front sight. Now I can adjust the sights to my reloads and achieve the same sight picture as my other weapons.

  4. General rule of thumb is pistol cases don't need lube but you had better lube rifle cases (don't even ask how I learned that to be true). I have never lubed pistol cases but have been told it makes the press operate a little smoother. Guess it's ultimately your call but I wouldn't. I don't clean out the primer pockets either just in case that might be a future question. IMO just two steps that aren't needed and just add time to the process.

  5. If you are completely new to reloading I would advise against TG or WST; pretty fast and easy to overcharge. I used a Lee Turret in the beginning and mine was not as accurate at dropping charges as I would have liked. WSF or W231 are a little slower and more forgiving plus they fill the case better and make it easier to see if your powder measure is throwing charges correctly.

  6. I've had good luck with WSF and 147 gr lead bullets. Currently running 3.8 gr laoded to 1.135ish. PF of 133, good accuracy, and gun functions well with this load. Tried some lower charges and seemed to be waiting on the slide. I've run these loads in both M&P 9 Pro and STI Spartan.

On a side note; WST might not be the best to use with 9mm due to lack of published data; but, I have tried 3.5 gr with the 147's and liked the way it ran. Kinda feel the WSF is a safer bet.

  7. I started with the Lee Classic Turret and it served it's purpose well until I started shooting more than I could comfortably reload with it. I did change the disks for the universal powder bar and it seemed to be much more consistent in throwing charges. Good little press and I still use it to load .223's as a single stage but with the ability to just rotate the tool head to the station I need at the time. Well worth the money IMO.

  8. Glad to know there are at least a few of us that have had good luck with the Taurus. I didn't get mine for competition but rather just a range gun. Decided to shoot it in an IDPA match or two and wound up shooting it pretty often after seeing it would preform. Kinda makes it better when I outshoot Kimbers and SA's on occasion.

  9. I was shooting an IDPA classifier last night with 130 gr BBI powered by WST. After the first stage as we walked down to score the targets the SO said I was getting a 20 sec penalty. I nearly fainted; wondering what I did wrong for a 20 second penalty-never heard that one before. He told me it was for smoking up the indoor range. Funny thing was that I never noticed the smoke. After that I think I saw more of the smoke than the front sights. Really messed with my mind.

  10. A $2.00 package of paper plates from Wally World resides in my car's trunk for most of the practice rounds. I have access to cardboard from the company I retired from a couple of years ago. Since I have a lot of free time I trace a used IDPA target (with the 0 down zone cut out) onto the cardboard and cut them with a utility knife. Normally have about 50 sitting around for those times when I want to work on specific drills.

  11. Luckily I had a bunch of factory parts in a plastic bag in my range bag. Pretty easy to pop one out and the other in. Guess sometimes it pays to be a pack rat. That gun has been retired to USPSA Limited only and replace with a Spartan 9mm for ESP. The Ed Brown extended mag release on that one is way under the legal limit regardless of where it's measured from.

  12. Adding group size or accuracy rating might help down the line. If you want to go back to a previously tried reload it would be good to know that it is either accurate or not. I rate accuracy from 1-5 and include that in a spreadsheet along with gun shot in. Hardly ever reload any that rate a 3 in accuracy.

  13. Just got the scores from the trial run in IDPA with the new M&P. Top SSP shooter; even beat the two experts that were there. 5th overall out of 37 total shooters. Hard to believe this gun can get better.

  14. Never thought I would buy anything other than 1911's and XD/XDm's. Made the mistake of shooting a 9 Pro with an Apex comp trigger and was hooked. A friend had a new Pro that he didn't like (confirmed Glock guy) and was willing to sell it. He brought it to an IDPA match Saturday and told me to run it like it was mine. After shooting the match with a stock gun I just couldn't give it back to him. It was the carry package with the Blade Tech holster and mag pouch and two extra mags. Ready for SSP now. I've run 300+ rds through it in the last two days and definitely falling in love. Can't wait until I've run a few hundred more rounds through it so the mods can begin. Hoping that Apex will have the forward sear available soon since that should cure the worst thing about the gun; the LONG pre-travel. RAM will cure the reset issue. Trigger pull is a little less than 5 lbs and not like the 3.75 pull of the XDm but think a little trigger work will get it there. There might be a new carry gun in my future to replace the XD9sc.
