  1. Is there a reason you are trying to stick with a factory rear sight? I am running Bowen S&W "Rough County" rear sights on my revolvers with Toolguy's(Warren) .100 fiber optic sights on all my revolvers. That includes two 6.5' and a 7".

  2. Is the barrel stamped(should be left side) .32 S&W or .32 S&W long? Also if you are considering cutting down brass, .32acp is dimensionally close to .32S&W(short) is semi-rimed, and both cartridges headspace on the rim.  Proceed with caution as .32acp is higher pressure than .32 S&W(short)!

you looked at 32-20 bullets ? .313 120 gr,, RN but a flat point.

Yeah anything over 100gr in .313 is RNFP that I have run across. I can't find a true RN profile. I was going to try working up up a load with these when I have some time. Though I now see they have a 111gr RNHP listed for 30 Super Carry.

What about trimming the case and then working up a load?

I would be hesitant to shorten 32 H&R cases, those clear the chambers on the extraction rod stroke.  Also the "published' data on 32 H&R is under max loadings by a large margin. The published data was to ensure safe use in the H&R revolvers chambered to shoot the round. The 30 Super Carry is rimless and .2 shorter case length than the 32H&R and a higher max pressure than the 327 Federal.. The 327 Federal are comically long when trying to pop them out as the extraction rod is not long enough.

Still going to have the problem of finding the ideal (to me) .32 caliber bullet. A full round nose  profile in the 115-130gr in .313 would be ideal. I did some digging on old silhouette shooting forums looking for load/bullet data and found out the T/C Contender barrels that were chambered in .32H&R were .308 diameter. The .308 diameter barrel solves the problem of finding the perfect bullet.

The 30 Super Carry operates at a considerably higher pressure (52,000psi max), so I'm sure any potential maker of a revo in this caliber will take into consideration the possible liability.

Yes It is quite the stout little round. It exceeds the max .327 federal at 45,000psi max and the 327 is no slouch. The 30 super carry in Federal factory loadings at listed at 45,000psi and make 125 power factor. If the factory data is correct.  I am still working on  loading up the 32H&R, the 327 cases are to long for rapid extraction, was trying to think up an alterative to 32H&R.

we end up with a new fed 10 round mag limit i could see Ruger doing this, although smaller lighter handguns probably sell alot more. Most people dont get bigger and heavier is easier to shoot. But dang if ruger came out with an off the shelf 10 shoot and speedloaders,, ? ICORE would flip out

The 10 shot guns would be very nice, but I do not see any manufacture investing in that. I would prefer an 8 shot L frame in 30 super carry myself, however I do not see S&W doing that either.

I dont fault a vendor for charging what they can get.. I can buy or not buy. I would ask top dollar for something I was selling.
What I have an issue with is when they lie their arses off and blow smoke up mine with excuses.. Just be honest.. We are charging what the market will bear

Exactly why bother to make excuses.

Yes. Tried them in my tuned 929. Hardly put a dent in them.

Thanks that was the answer I needed.

If you dig through this whole thread, you will find refer to when the pres of cci/fed said component prices were permanently increasing 15% from what was 30 bucks a thousand.

The bottom line though is, primers for reloaders are production over runs of commercial ammo.

Commercial ammo demand is still breaking records.

Even if distributors are only getting whacked an additional 15% somewhere else in the chain they are getting jacked up...

A very large gun store near me tells me they are getting charged 60+ a 1000 at this point from distribution channels.   No idea whats true though anymore....

I saw people talking about the price increase as well in earlier post but I have not seen an answer. Prices of $80 to up to $130 per thousand for primers is well beyond a 15% or 20%-30% price increase. Somebody has the answer, SHOT show was just a few weeks ago, I think someone would have asked. If it is the distributors I sure as heck would like to know which ones are responsible.

So has anyone tried these Ginex primers in a Federal primer tuned gun?

  8. Those are Winchester Brad, but I have seen those and some Remington here and there. I was wondering about the Ginex cup thickness, how soft they are if anyone has tried them. Also while I am asking about primers, is anyone else bothered by increased  cost of them? I found a receipt in my powder locker from the last time I bought primers, and I paid $28 per thousand, and that was in Obama's last term.  I remember Powder Valley or Nachez sending out an  email a year or so ago saying there would be a 20-30% increase in the cost of reloading supplies, but holy hell this is just stupid.

  9. Any word back on those Ginex primers? I have enough Federals to get me through this year depending on how much I end up shooting. Ginex seem to be the only primers pop up to purchase on a regular basis.

  10. 6.1. All revolvers used in ICORE matches must be .32 magnum caliber or greater.
It may seem I have too much time on my hands, but I see things and my brain does not seem to shut down. I started looking into the somewhat new .30 Super Carry and wondered if it would count as a 32 mag? In factory loadings that I have seen the factory data puts loads at 125pf, it actually is a .32 caliber bullet, and exceeds most published data for .32 H&R mag. If the max pressure I have seen listed is correct it actually exceeds .327 Federal Mag.

    7.62x39 Rifle bullets?

When you said Spire points for the 357 the first thing that came to mind was the old Speer 170g that guys used for silhouettes. But even that had a flat point on it.

Yes 7.62x39 rifle bullets, I think also for a mid war Arisaka rifle as well. I had just asked about spire points for reloads, people thought 38 bullets I guess. I have tried some in 38, but as I had said the ogive is very different. Also found out from reading some of the old handgun silhouette forums that the 32 H&R TC contenders barrels came in both .308 and .313. Ruger used .313 in their GP100's so finding a bullet weight with the profile I am after has been a project.

Look around and you may find some with a bit of a longer ogive but they won't look like a spire point rifle bullet.  I am a firm believer that a bullet must have a bearing surface at least as long as the bore diameter but no longer than twice the bore diameter.  Lets say a decent .38 bullet has a bearing surface right around .4" to .5".  Not much left for a spitzer tip in the traditional sense unless you want to shoot a really heavy bullet.

Have to ask though.  Why a spitzer profile?

    GG

I have been messing around with .32H&R and .327mag. and to get the bullet weight I want without using a flat-point, I found a .313 spire point bullet.

I have good luck running Steve's 170g &150g in my 929 and 627. Blue bullets makes a pretty sharp profile however in the limited time Iv spent with them iv had so so accuracy.

I am using his 158gr RN in my 38 loads he was out of the 150 & 170 swaged last time I ordered.

Anything with a flat part on the end can potentially hang up during a reload. Round nose is still the best choice. Probably the spire points would work well too, never tried them.

Thanks Warren. Steve from Bear Creek sent me some 130gr .358 to mess with some time back and I did not have any issues getting those in the cylinder from speed loaders. His bullets have a round nose on the point, and are not as severe of a point as the 125gr that were posted above. The bullet I was going to give a try have more of a rifle style ogive to them, longer and sharper point.

I used 130 gr RN Montana Gold bullets for years and just switched recently to their 124 gr JHPs and found they load faster with a conical profile over the RN!

I would be concerned with the HP getting caught like a FP if I did not hit the cylinder lined up. I guess I am putting too much thought into it.

Carmoney used the mg 142 ifp and had no problems.

I recall Mike posting many moons ago about using a 90ish grain MG bullet in 9mm I do not recall the profile. I do not think a spire point bullet would be an issue if the OAL is short enough to avoid binding, if that makes any sense.

  17. I have always used round nose bullets when I used to shoot in revolver, in competition. Due to some difficulty in getting various loading components I was contemplating trying some spire tip bullets. I recall someone taking about it in a thread in this forum probably 15 years ago, but I can't find it, most everything has been archived and is not searchable.  Anyone tried any spire tips(Not flat points) in their moon-clip guns?

  18. I think Mojo said he might be done building PPC guns in the future, I would certainly message him and ask. I would also give Clark's another call, you never know what might happen to an e-mail. I know as of 2 years ago Alan Tanaka was still taking work, but he was running a year backlog then.
