  1. Decided to go with the M & P 9 pro, and picked up a new one at a decent price. I am gonna deck it out with SSS parts (which I just ordered) and shoot limited minor for a little while. I figured I can always grab one of the 40 pros when they come out, and swap the SSS parts to it and use the 9 for production. That way I will be shooting the same platforms in limited and production. I have been comparing my production scores to limited scores at recent matches, and I don't think that minor scoring will hurt me too much (fingers crossed). I am hoping the extra capacity helps me more than major scoring will..... time will tell. At any rate, it should be tons of fun, which is why I am in this anyway.

  2. I have the act-mags that came with my S & W, and they are decent and reliable, but...... I much prefer my Wilson mags. Others swear by Chip McCormicks, but I have no experience with those. If I was buying, I would take the drive to Cabelas and buy Wilson's, especially when Cabela's is giving away money again with their credit card offers.

  3. So much for the april release date, unless they are shipping them overnight as we speak (type). I don't get the delay here. I saw on another post that they already have a part number assigned to the slide. S & W has to have all the parts designed and ready to go. My gaze is starting to drift in other directions.....

  4. Regarding your insurance claims....

Unfortunately, your agent did not address the special limits with you when you bought the policy. Hopefully your other stolen property was addressed under the regular policy limit, that is to say anything not firearms related such as clothing, tools, shooting bag, etc. Also, your deductible will be applied prior to your special policy limits, or in simple terms, your deductible will be absorbed into your uncovered loss. Don't let the insurance company tell you they only cover $2500 and then want to apply the deductible to that. Thats not the way it works.

Check with your auto policy coverage, as auto insurance frequently has coverage for personal property that is stolen from your car. Again, this is limited, but it may help you recover some more money for your loss. Not sure if the theft was from your personal vehicle or not.....

Also, to anyone reading this and re-evaluating your insurance, your company may have "enhancement endorsements" which increase your special limits, such as $2500 for guns going up to $5000, along with other enhanced coverages. The benefit to this is expanded coverages without having to get riders for individual items, which can be expensive.

Once upon a time I worked for an insurance company, and people frequently get burned on this stuff because they never read the policy and don't understand that they are stuffed full of special limits and limited coverages. Most people try to get the best price for their insurance, and sometimes tune out when agents start asking about the stuff they own because they don't want the price to go up.

Check your policy and compare it to the property you own..... especially with collectibles such as guns, art, stamps, coins, baseball cards, etc..... also let your agent know about motorized vehicles that you don't have covered under your auto policy. Homeowners probably doesn't cover them for loss or liability.

Unfortuantely most people find out about what there policy doesn't cover after a loss. When your bored one evening, pull out the policy and read it. Anything your not sure of, discuss with your agent, thats what you pay them for !!!!

  5. Keep in mind that Jesse is not just a pistol shooter, but a three gunner and a vry successful cowboy action shooter as well. Take a look around, FNH has recently been advertising that they are a company that produces a pistol, rifle, and shotgun for three gun competition. Furthermore, Cowboy Action has a MUCH larger following than action pistol, with Ruger supplying a lot of the guns for that sport.

Her options are wide open because she has been successful in many different shooting sports, and I wouldn't be suprised to see her get picked up by a company that you woudn't expect.

If I were Ruger, I would be looking to make an offer. They could get great marketing mileage in cowboy, practical pistol, and three gun....

  6. The 10/22 is a best bet. It made the NRA's list of 10 best hunting rifles ever produced....... ever !!! Like everyone else has said, it can be made into almost anything with aftermarket parts, from precision tack driver to tactical. Lots of fun to shoot and easy to use. The aftermarket is just overflowing with add ons and upgrades. It would definitely be worth any extra expense.

  7. Thanks for the input. I'd prefer to shoot Limited 10 so I could use a CR Speed holster. Any benefits in shooting Single Stack that I'm not aware of?

Just to clarify, single stack is the only division where there is a restriction on how many rounds can be loaded between major and minor..... and this may benefit different shooters in different ways and effect their decision to shoot major or minor. 10 rounds as opposed to 8 may be a benefit for a shooter that can shoot more A's.

Of course limited minor can stuff more rounds in a magazine, but it is not restricted by rule like single stack is.

  8. With practice, you could run a pump shotgun quickly. However, you mentioned recoil control. I believe you will find that most shooters will tell you that the semi-autos, by the very nature of their actions, shoot softer and have lighter recoil than any pump gun ever would.

  9. Our sport can be VERY intimidating to new shooters. If you refer them to watch video on the internet, you often only find pro shooters who shoot faster and better than 95 percent of the rest of us. I have invited co-workers several times to watch matches and have offered to loan them gear to try it out. Some have even bought there own gear, but getting them to actually shoot the match is like pulling teeth.

I think the best idea is to offer a brief training course the day before or hours before the match, and then have all the beginners shoot in one squad together.

  10. I am using a Luepold VX-I 1-4 shotgun scope, $200 from Cabela's. Not sexy or tacti-cool, but it works well and is clear with a wide field of view. I shot my first rifle match with this set-up and was able to quickly hit small plates at 200 yds. Also, where the bottom of the crosshair transitions from heavy to thin in the duplex reticle happened to be the perfect point of aim for close targets under 25 yds. without having to think about any hold over.

P.S., I was in the prize money with this set up shooting in my first ever match.

Use the money you save for ammo and practice....

  11. I was excited to hear about the M&P Pro series .40 cal, that is until the gun was released. Why not a 5" M&P .40 ?

Is Smith and Wesson missing the boat by not building a .40 cal to match the very successful 9mm ?

Anyone on this forum heard anything about a 5" version in the pipeline ?

  12. I have one with the black slide and OD frame. Trigger done by KS Customs and front sight by Dawson Precision. No other changes. I like it very, very much, and have always been a 1911 shooter. Mine is in 9MM, and I would seriously consider purchasing another when it is made in caliber .45 ACP. I attended the SHOT Show in Las Vegas this month and was told by Springfield representatives that they definitely plan on manufacturing the pistol in .45 ACP. When I pushed them for a timeline, two representatives would only say "in 2010" and the third representative ventured a guess of "June or July 2010".

How close did the trigger work on your XDM get to feeling like your 1911?

I've been reading about everyone that's dropped a trigger kit in their XDM's but haven't seen any comments from 1911 shooters that have turned to the dark side...

I installed a powder river precision kit in one..... vast improvement but no where close to a 1911 single action trigger.......

  13. I don't see the 5906 PC on the approved gun list? But, we have had topics on this before...

You should go to the search page and do a search for 5906 while specifying to search in the USPSA/IPSC rules section.

I beat the search to death..... most are older posts which, for the most part, say these are legal production guns. I believe that they have been permitted because they are model 5906's, and are not, at least officially, a seperate and distinct model. They were available to the public from S&W and were in the catalog. They are not a seperate 5906 PC model. I was not in the sport when these guns first came out and were accepted into production, so I can only speculate that this is why they were allowed originally.

I feel that I am O.K. with this gun, I guess I just fear an R.O. at some match making an issue of it.

  14. Hi guys,

I have been shooting my S & W 5906 performance center in production for a little over a year, and it is the DPA serial numbered 4" model with absolutely no mods. I shoot it as it came from the factory. These guns have been legal in the past, even the unobtainium 5" models. I have never had an issue at local matches shooting this gun.

It is marked on the frame as a model 5906, and 5906 only, no other "numbers or letters" that would make it a seperate model. I sent an E-mail to Amidon, and his response was that the 5906 is on the production list and is legal.

Whadya guys think ??? still legal for production division with the new rules interpretations or not ? Is there anyone out there still shooting these ?

I prefer to keep using this gun, as it is very left hander friendly and because I carry a 3rd gen S & W in my duty gear as an LEO.
