  1. What is the layout of the range? Are golf carts and 4 wheelers allowed this year?

Last year the range was so spread out we drove from stage to stage......

parking area is in the center...there are two rows of bays down both sides. as others said, a 4 wheeler, golf cart, or gun cart would be WAY better than a truck cause it will get tight with 200 trucks in there.

With 275 shooter I'd imagine they'd park everyone outside the pro shop...like they did on range day...but i could be wrong...I hope I'm wrong.

  2. I just spoke with Trapr and he is moving his High Plains Shotgun Challenge to June. It's official, the LaRue Tactical Texas Multigun Championship is scheduled for the weekend of April 15-16 2011. More details to follow...

I damn near had a heart attack...thank god for April 15-16th....my Wife's birthday is April 30 and My Anniversary is May 1.....

    Count me in!

  3. First off Great Match. Congrats to all that finished way up on top. Thanks LaRue and all of the sponsors and the RO's. It was my first 3-gun match and was a challange. I really enjoyed the moving and shooting, something I don't get to do very often(and it shows).

The only thing I didn't like was competing with some of the "Pro's" that get paid and are sponsered to shoot matches. They are way above and beyond most of our shooting skills and it really showed. Maybe class shooters by how many matches they have won or something like that?????(Others muttered it, but I am typing it) I know I will get flamed by saying that, so what the hell I'm a man and can take it. I know that gives people something to strive for and to push them and make them better shooters. I just dont have the money for ammo to shoot like those guys. A great match and I will be back next year, for sure.

Thanks again for everyones time who put this on.

Great match, Greg. Thanks to you and your crew for all the hard work. That was certainly a match that tested one's whole skill set: target discrimination, support side shooting, technical slug shots, wind reading, odd angles, CQB, shooting out of moving vehicles, crawling, running.

My biggest criticism is that there was too much select slug and select slug combined with aerial targets which could easily lead to someone engaging an aerial with a slug. That and my procedural for actually shooting the targets tactically on Stage 4! :roflol:

As for shooting against "Pros." This was a MAJOR 3 gun event, what did you expect? But all of those "Pros" have real jobs too. There are not many Rob Leatham/Jerry Miculek full time shooting professionals. So buy a Nordic Components .22 upper and get out and practice!

I joke that I go to the Big 3 Gun matches so that I can get beat by the best. instead of the Local guys,,, that beat me on a regular basis.

I try to run with the big boys. I'm working at it and this match, I had a good run.

One of the best parts of this sport is that you can, step up and see how well you can do against the best,

It may be hard on the ego, but you can step up.

I can only think of one other sport that you can step up, ((that would be, Running, or triathlon's))

If you Golf, play B-ball, Ok name a sport,,,your out of luck, you're not going to step up and compete with the best.

Get the best equipment you can afford, It does not have to be super high dollar,,, Money does not shoot the gun, ,set up your equipment correctly and Practice.

'Practice!' Now there's a novel idea. reckon i am gonna have to give that a try.

Yeah I'm gonna be doing A LOT of that practice stuff. A LOT! Especially with my pistol.

  4. Can someone get from stage to stage in a car? I know we are allowed to drive to each stage, but I'm asking if the conditions will allow a car, rather than a truck or SUV, to be used. We only have a car and Id like to spare the $300 bucks it takes to rent an SUV if I can, but Ill spend if the range conditions merit such!

BTW...In lieu of any 'if it rains' answers, I'm planning on renting one anyway if the forecast calls for it! I just want to know if it can be done dry..:)

    Thanks in advance!

    Ben

Yes most cars can get from stage to stage. What kind of car? But right now it's suppsed to rain on Friday and possibly Sunday.

What time does the shootin start?

The web site says shooters briefing at 0700 on Saturday..

    Awesome. Thanks.

  6. I was using 8 shot with I/C and didn't even phase the plates on the star with my SLP. I hit the one plate 5 times and just kinda watched it flap before I gave up and showed clear....

I am going to be bringing a couple boxes of my FIOCCI Golden Pheasant 3" 4 shot if there is a star set up anything like that at the Larue match... :)

Pretty sure that star is THE star for the LT3G...have you guys ever seen the crazy ass star with the no shoots spinning around behind it? called the "Oregon star" or the "Evil" Texas star...

ETA: Gregg don't go googling that damn thing...please!

  7. Dang it...I really want to shoot my 308 this year, but I have ZERO range time with it!

I will be slinging #6 shot this year. Don't trust the 7.5 stuff on stars after last year.

+1 on the stubborn star plates! Last weekend at the WHIDPA 3Gun match hosted at Cawthon saw very "sticky" star plates on Freq Q's shotgun extravaganza of death! My SLP with I/C shooting 7-1/2 3 dram loads took them off fine, but I would go no lower! It's gonna be great!

    Can't wait!

    Kyle

I didn't have any problems with the star either and I was shooting cheap wally world 7.5's. There were quite a few folks there that were having a HELL of a time knocking the star plates off...I'm not sure what they were using for ammo...but I know some had cylinder bore shot guns...

  8. OK, I see how it works.... Bob gets credit for all my targets when everthing is GREAT, but I get the bitchen when something goes bad. :surprise:

I check the star before, during and after the match, it was mechanically perfect. You will have to look hard to find a star as large as this one and it is tough, takes a lot of choke or big boy shells to knock them off with authority.

I notice that the angle iron protectors were really shot up meaning that most shooters hit where the plates attach. You need to hit the plate square or on the outer edge at the distance I had it setup. Plus, a low prone position just makes it harder...

I appreciate all you shooters showing up and all the shooters I visited with had a great time, I saw more that one wide grin coming off the Jungle Run.

I really appreciate all the attention you guys paid to my targets.

My intent was to get you a little taste of the facility and what you might see at the LaRue shoot.

Fred, Bob, MRT53 I know you guys probably have plenty of help but if you ever need anyone to shoot the targets and or stages to see how they run please let me know. I know my self as well as a few friends would love to be of assistance. We are local and are available any time were not on call...let us know. Please. We like to shoot shit.

And Fred I had no problem with the star. Leave it AS IS! I know a lot of guys that had "issues" were using cylinder bore guns...and like you said the rest may have been shot placement. I really enjoyed shooting the "swingers" or "flashers" whatever they were called.

Great job guys....I can't wait until May!

  9. Hi all.

I called the hotel to make reservations and they wouldn't take the provided group code. I emailed Linda Chico about it several days ago but she has yet to respond.

Any hope for a discount or should I have made reservations long ago?

    Thanks

Do not worry about availability. They have two overflow hotels lined up. The contact person there is on maternity leave, and has been replaced by Lauren Norman. Her # is 979 695-9500 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              979 695-9500      end_of_the_skype_highlighting. Great gal. Give her a call for any needs or reservations.

I really enjoyed the inaugural match yesterday...you have an awesome "backyard". Looking forward to May! Thanks to everyone else for all of the hard work that has gone into this match thus far.

We went out and shot at the range yesterday for their inaugural 3 gun match. The range is pretty amazing. Bob has done some amazing target building in his "spare time".. he has designed some pretty sweet poppers and flash targets. The ranges can get pretty extreme but shooting down into the valley from up on the hill was pretty cool, I have never shot a 400 yard target without a high power scope until yesterday and it was pretty cool seeing the flashers hit.

I would definitely recommend everyone that has one available bring some kind of transportation, such as golf cart or 4 wheeler, or else plan to drive from stage to stage as the stages are pretty far apart..

Really looking forward to it.. got lots of practicing to do in the next few weeks.

That was my first time shooting out to 400...combined with the wind and the elevation drop I was pleasantly surprised at how well I did...I'm sure Greg will throw some other little snag in there to make it more of a challenge.

  10. Stage design is complete and you will be challenged and have fun.

Rifle shots 400-500 yards and they are not a bonus.

You will not need a sling for yer shotgun, only yer rifle.

    Target size will vary.

You will be required to run, jump, crawl, kneel, squat, get into and out of prone and all the other positions.

If you can not get into a position to engage the target, you will incur penalties. Do your best and have fun.

I can't wait! Sounds like a damn good time.
