  1. In a recent match, my extractor on my sx 2 practical broke in two right after the pin location. This let the cartridge stop (i've heard it called the plunger ) and extractor spring shoot out and disappear. I've tried ordering the replacement spring from Numrich and from Winchester but the spring I receive is to large to fit in the hole in the bolt. I miked the spring at roughly 0.145" and the hole at roughly 0.12". Does anyone know where to get the right springs? On the schematic plans from Brownells, Numerich and Winchester it is called "extractor spring". Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Interested readers- Here is the interpretation from John Amidon: "You are absolutely correct, the AR-15 type rifle has been made in far sufficient numbers to not be considered a prototype, and yes, the factory gun appendix allows for replacing the barrel, and no, there is nothing ruling about changing to a different caliber. The rifle rules appendix for Limited and Tactical has no reference to cartridge other than none, the rules themselves state: 5.1.2 There is no minimum caliber for rifles used in USPSA matches. The only mention of caliber is in the Multigun rules, and that is under the heavy metal divisions, it must be a minimum of .308. The appendix containing the word prototype covers the rifle, there is no reference to ammo. The user was able to obtain major scores, because his ammo made major over the chronograph. Hope this helps you clarify your questions, the rifle used, was legal." That's the interpretaion from USPSA. scooterdog
  3. Guys- After reading all the replys, I think the intent of question has been lost. I am questioning the interpretaion of the rifle rules (specifically Appendix D) versus what was used at the multi-gun nationals. We all agree that we don't want the sport to have a 500 page rule book - but the rules are there to create standards for everyone to adhere to. That's why there is Open, Tactical, Limited. Appendix D4 says factory produced guns in quantities of at least 500. Prototypes are not allowed, but barrel replacements and replacement of other parts (sights, safetys, ejection ports, fore-ends, stocks etc) are and internal modifications for accuracy & reliability are allowed. Now, people can talk about shooting what ever you bring, or shooting whatever wildcat cartridge you want or argue the merits of new parts or modifications or the perceived unfairness somebody with more money to spend may have all day long. And I am not arguing about not having development in our sport. I definitely don't want the sport to become stale and boring and controlled by a combersome rulebook. but to me, the key words under Appendix D4 for Tactical are "Prototypes are specifically not allowed". The 30 Gremlin seems to be a pretty potent round with a lot of potential. Great. Why wasn't the gun shot as Open? I am also not arguing about how good Horner is. I think he could've shot the match with 10 round mags and on crutches and beat everyone. But I think he should've been shooting Open with the 30 Gremlin cartridge and not Tactical. That's just my opinion - what's yours?
  4. I have a question regarding the legality of the use of the 30 Gremlin by the AMU. I may be interpreting the rules incorrectly but in appendix D, is says that tactical rifles are supposed to be produced by a factory in units of at least 500 and prototypes are not allowed. Opinions?
  5. Didn't notice, but my first post got deleted. Here is the information. The class is with Max and Travis on April 19 and 20 and covers shooting on the move and stage analysis. First day is range instruction and second day is shooting a match with the class as a squad. Cost is $510 and 1000 to 1500 rounds. We've had Max and Travis in Missoula before and this is great opportunity to get some top notch training from two of the best competitors in our sport. 6. Okay, as the title says, I am just venting but when is this price war against the civilian shooter going to end? I just came back from Walmart and in one week Remington 223 55 gr fmj box of 20 went from $6.47 to $7.50. An increase of 15%. This is an addition to going from around $5 in January of '07 to $6.47 by August of '07. Another increase of 25%. Some more examples: Blazer reloadable .45 230 gr box of 50 - in January of '07 it was 8.50, now it is $12. An increase of 30%. Winchester 9mm 115 fmj box of 100 was $12 in January of '06, now it is $16. Another increase of 25%. And the manufacturers are talking about another increase in January of '08. How much is going to be enough for these sobs? First the cost was blamed on lead. Well, lead has dropped over 30% in the last 2 months. Now the war is to blame. Whats next? Anybody want to bet the ammo companies will have record profits this year? I mean, I am all for staying loyal to our manufacturers, but it is getting harder and harder to do when every time I pick up ammo, I feel like I am getting a$$raped. Ammo purchases might be easier if the manufacturers would tape a little tube of vaseline to each box.
  7. I would highly recommend Double Impact with Max & Travis or Manny or Jarret. We've had all 3 up here in Missoula and I found all of them to be excellent instructors. Just my 2 cents worth.
  8. Manny will be teaching two 1 day classes after the L10/Open Nationals in Missoula, MT on June 25th and 26th. Class format is an in-depth analysis of one of the Nationals stages. The class will run thru the stage and Manny will crtique and advise on how to get you to that next level of performance. Class is $275 and approximately 700 rounds of ammo and limited to 4 people. The class on the 25th is full and there are openings on the 26th. Email me at: sdgiesick@msn.com if you are interested. Thanks. Scott
  9. I hate to sound to inept, but how do you get the carrier & charging handle out of the receiver on a Benelli M3 Super 90? Instructions say to pull charging handle out. Thats it! Can't seem to get the darn thing out of the carrier. Any help would be appreciated.
