  1. I tried asking the usual US based people I've heard about on this forum and nobody wants anything todo with anything international. So I am at a loss now, where can I get my carrier fixed? Any non-US people here who got one, where did you get it? Or did you weld it yourself, how is it done?

God what was Benelli thinking when they made that carrier...

  2. I'm hoping the alknowing members can help me / us.

In the past I have always, happily, used the services of Brassman Brass for buying my .40 brass and shipping it to the Netherlands. A couple of weeks ago I planned on ordering a new batch but my mail did not get replyed, the smae goes for another mail 2 weeks later.

Now I hear they have run in some problems with the exporting of the brass. Did anybody hear something about this?

More importantly know anybody who is still willing to ship to the Netherlands / Europe?

I've been trying to contact these people as well to get my hands on some 45acp:

  3. So I've been loading .44mag and .45ACP on my Lee Classic Cast Turret Press and its been working fine, but I want more speed now and I am thinking of upgrading to a Dillon.

I've got the deluxe die sets for the calibers and one unused one for .223 which I plan on getting into later. But that was when I still envisioned myself with the Lee in the future. Now I am looking at the Dillon 550, it seems to be the best for loading many calibers, and I also want to start loading 9mm eventually, so thats four calibers there.

Now what I'm wondering is, is it worth keeping my lee dies, or should I switch to all Dillon? I understand the Lee dies are one of the most liked products that they offer, especially the factory crimp die.

Also I've been hearing that Dillon measures are not that good with extruded powders, I live in Finland which is VV monopoly land so its all I got and metering that type of powder is important to me, my Lee auto disk gets .1 variation with N320, but can jump to .3 with N32C due to the large granules. Would it be worth skipping the dillon measure and getting some other brand, if so what is recommended, and what is compatible with the 550?

  4. I took it for a little spin this weekend and it ran everything I fed it without any hiccups whatsoever. I tried 9, 7.5, buckshot and slugs. Mostly I wanted it to work with the 7.5 shot since thats what I got in bulk of, I was suprised it had no problems with the even lighter 9 shot.

I did get benelli thumb once, so now I know why people weld up their lifters (can you buy a fixed lifter and install it yourself?). I can't fathom what Benelli was thinking.

Did some polishing and light grinding of the shell stop as well but it needs more work still before I am satisfied, but is there an easier way to put the roll pin pack afterwards, this was a very irritating part of the reassembly process.

  5. more interesting. sold as new?

No it was sold as used, but lightly so.

Any idea what can be done to tune the loading, and what, if anything, can be done about the magtube?

  6. If it's old it doesn't show. This gun looks pretty much new, barely used. I checked the bore and since my only experience with shotguns from before has been my 870 I was quite taken aback to see a bore and chamber like a mirror.

  7. Got this gun home today, 21" vent rib barrel, 7 shot magazine, 5 different chokes.

Things I've noticed with this gun is one tiny thing and one mind boggler. The one that has me scratching my head is that it has a 1 piece 7 round magtube! The whole thing is one piece from receiver to end. In the middle there is threading that the regular looking nut is on, this you screw off and slide off the tube, then disassemble normally.

This is what the tube looks like with the nut removed:

So what this means is that my idea of replacing the factory extension I thought it had with a Nordic one to bring it flush went outta the window, this one can't be extended in any way. Never seen or heard of anything like this.

Second thing is just the bloody stiff feeding of shells, not sure what can be done to tune this for easier feeding?

  8. Ah so the sight is still visible when down? I was hoping the sight would not be visible when folded so it wouldn't otherwise interfere with the guns operation during non-3gun stuff, like hunting and breaking clays. That elusive multipurpose shotgun still eludes me...

  9. BTW I might also be able to get a Benelli M1 Super 90, the one with the basic open sights, would that be worth getting? It'd be half the price of an M2. Open rifle sights are not as fast as a bead but I can be p.good with them. Possibly one could mod the rear sight so it flips down, put a fiber on the front?

    Sorry for hijacking the thread!

  10. Found out my wife is planning to buy me a semi auto shotgun for my 35th birthday!

I initially thought I wanted a non-pistol grip 18.5 inch M2 Tactical. but after talking with a helpful fellow I shoot 3 gun with, he reccomended the 21 inch field. and a quick search yeilded the same results on this board.

From my search I gather the 21 inch Field is more desired than 18.5, because of the ribbed/vented barrel, and the fact that a +5 shell extension tube ends up flush. Are there any other benifits that I am missing? part of me still likes the idea of 18.5 inches with rifle sights; because that's what i am running with right now (870P).

I don't remember how, but i stumbled on this youtube video "What Shotgun is Best for 3 Gun???" by jtischauser. Am i the last person to see it? Thought it was freaking hillarious:

You and me, we're having pretty much the same issue I can tell. The 21" model is looking real fine, a bit concerned about the sights though but I found this online:

    erHUW.jpg

I like this solution here, could anyone tell me what the rear sight is? I assume it flips down out of the way. I understand 10/22 sights are popular but I cannot tell if that's what this is.

  11. Yes, Jamie we know you've sipped the Vortex coolaid, and are hooked!!!

Trijicon and Meopta are still the longest running, most moderately priced, daylight illuminated, usable 3 gun optics out there. They are the benchmark, I was told at SHOT that a very high end optic maker was banging a very expensive scope on the table in frustration to "our" demand for daylight illumination, SMKSHWN can elaborate on this when he returns from SHOT, that said...........You optics guys are going to be overwhelmed with the amount of good usable, moderately priced optics that are going to be out there NOW!!!! I've seen them and held them in my hands, and was even asked to sit in on a few meetings about them with company reps!!!!! moderately priced 1FP and 2FP scopes, save your pennies. the best 3 gun reticle that I saw was from Trijicon in an ACOG but it was very very nice, simple and very user friendly, i'll be getting one soon.

    trapr

Save our pennies for the new K-dot do you mean, or some of these other alternatives that are gonna be hitting the market? I'd like to know more about the new range of 1-4 optics that are coming out.

  12. It'd be cool if anyone could tell me if the nova extension also fits on a factory Benelli full length tube. I contacted nordic components about it a while ago and they didn't have any that they could check on sadly. But I figure it does fit, if you can use the factory cap with the DMW tube then it stands to reason the threads are identical.

Also if you have one of those, no real reason to bother with any aftermarket parts right? Or do any of them bring anything extra to the party that'd be worth it?

  13. 6. Realise that Nordic DOESN'T make M4 extentions. (Which in this case is a misnomer, as it isn't an extention, it is just the same as a standard Benelli tube...if you could get one) :roflol:

I believe you can put one of their nova extensions on an M4 like this:

    28s1tsj.jpg

I am not sure if you require the two-piece extension the gun in the picture has, or if any 1-piece extension will work.

  14. I have a possibly dumb idea. But what about taking one of those cheap 1897 replicas and putting a full length tube on it (might not be so easy) and a fiber bead? I was just thinking it could be a very fast gun since you can just pump it without pulling the trigger.

  15. I was mostly wondering if it was the height that prevented it from being a workable solution, I have never tried it, but it seems like even a fiber bead that high up might be problematic. Still I understand some elevation is needed for the front bead though, if you want some flip up sight to use for slugs later.

  16. I have a question about ghost ring sights. the guns that come with them, like the Benelli M2 Practical (or M4...), would it work as well as a bead if you removed the rear sight? Or would the relative height of the front sight be an issue? I was just thinking if a lot of the issue with ghost rings sight had a simple solution, like a rear sight that could flip down.

  18. I'm hearing that there is often a 9 round limit imposed in 3gun matches, so does it matter how long a barrel and magtube your gun has then if you can't put more than 9 rounds in it, say 8+1, or 7+1+1 with ghost loading?

I'm not a 3gunner mind you so what I say is only hearsay.

Would have been nice to have any light shed on this.

  19. It's too bad about the lack of screw in chokes on this gun. I would have wanted more than just cylinder. Leaning Benelli M4 instead (not going to be a 3-gun weapon).

EDIT: Just realized I ASSUMED you where talking about the SPX model that everyone else is talking about.

  20. You also have 8 votes now between the two. That means there are only about 3 HM shooters left that haven't voted in the poll. Trapr, Pat Kelly, and Michael Fordyce are on their way to the Pan Am. :roflol: They may vote when they get home.

The guy who won Pan Am (standard manual) this year, he used an 870 right? I wonder if he used the Express furniture I sold him? :)
