  1. Thanks guys. Id never heard of the powerball. Just started a regime of free weights, cardio and looking at COC for grip strength

If you are using free weights, you really do not need to use any of those gadgets.

Start incorporating HEAVY ASS DEADLIFTS into your work out. Your grip, forearm, and back strength will all sky rocket in due time.

Don't use any assistance straps for your deadlifts, either. Just cheating yourself out of grip strength gains.

Going off of this point, I just picked up some fat grip adapters for my dumbbells. These bumped my grip up to 2". After my workout yesterday, my hands and forearms were completely burnt and my vascularity was out of control (AND THIS WAS ON SHOULDERS DAY!!!) I expect that incorporating these into all of my workouts is going to result in HUGE gains in grip strength. I will say that I had to use straps to finish out my shrug sets though. My hands were so exhausted that I was only getting through 3-5 reps before I was barely pinching the dumbbells to stay in my hands.

  2. Edited to add, I'm assuming you are asking these questions with USPSA Production in mind.

    1. No. See Rule 8.1.2. Additionally, a properly fitted safety shouldn't even engage when in DA.

    2. While I wouldn't be against it, it would limit options for those looking for other purposes (IDPA ESP, USPSA Limited minor, Concealed Carry, etc) This would also require them to redesign the frame, sear cage, etc. I'm guessing it's more trouble than it's worth.

  3. As should be apparent from his post above, Donnie is a standup guy with a great product. I am using up the last of my older generation bullets and will be placing an order for some of the new ones very soon. Playing around with a buddy's new ones, they seem to be even cleaner to handle than the old matte ones.

  4. OK, so i just purchased a STI "Gunsmith Fit" trigger......I'm embarrassed to ask but how does one go about fitting it. I feel like its time to learn. I would imagine that one polishes the gliding (outer) surfaces with a fine stone or polish and a dremmel? how about the trigger face itself, would fine sand paper do the job? I appreciate any help. thanks

You typically just need to remove some material from the top and bottom of the trigger. Make sure your trigger channel is clean and square in your grip before you start removing material from the trigger. I use a fine file to adjust the trigger pad length until it gets close and then switch to sandpaper to clean it up. The same is true with fitting the trigger to the grip. The polymer is easy to remove, so just about any abrasive will do the job, it's just a matter of how long it takes. As always, just remember, you can't put material back on. Good luck!

  5. I'm unaware of any such requirement within the rulebook. An exception to general rule that reloads can't be required is:

"1.1.5.1 Level I matches may use shooting boxes and specify where or

when specific target arrays may be engaged, and may specify

mandatory reloads in short and medium courses only (not in a

    long course)."

  6. A HUGE +1 for Stuart/eerw. You can find many threads on this topic. I've played around with/owned a variety of custom Shadows and have yet to feel one that is better than my Stuartized Shadow. Reasonable prices, fast turn-around time, and the nicest guy you'll have the pleasure of dealing with.

  7. What makes me lean towards the magnetic pouches is their fluidity on taking a fresh mag off the belt when reloading. I had ecen considered an all magnetic setup (still considering it) just to try it out in a match.

Before I take that plunge I will try the alternating setup and see if it is viable.

The only potential downside I can see is the seated at table starts with all mags on the top. While placing the mags on your belt might be faster, it could end in disaster when you stand up and discover that you are stuck to the chair.

:roflol: That would definitely be a surprise!

As you play around more with the magnetic pouches, please let us know what you think.

  8. Yeah, the DAA pouches are the best I've used too. I've probably been most impressed with the Racer pouches due to price point (as cheap as every other pouch but much better quality IMO). I haven't tried the new double magnet pouches though.

Congrats on your pending Open gun! I look forward to seeing pics!

Other than having one magnetic pouch for a table start, I'll probably stick with traditional pouches. What has you leaning towards more magnetic pouches?

I like to keep my magnet with the leading pouch like you have yours. However it works for you though. That's the beauty of this game.

  9. Not for the XDS, but I've tried just about every carry holster out there over the years (not much of an exaggeration). The CT Infidel is a great holster but it was a bit too thick and uncomfortable for me. I have a very narrow frame and the Infidel tended to dig into my hip. Other than that, it is a very nice holster with a variety of options. If you are looking for an easy on/off design, though, this style of holster is by far the easiest IMO. In terms of comfort, it's tough to beat the hybrid holsters (Crossbreed Supertuck, Comtac MTAC, etc) but they are more difficult to take on/off and are more bulky.

I wouldn't necessarily rule out carrying OWB depending on your attire. If going this route, I would take a look at the Raven Concealment Systems Phantom holster. Other than the muzzle being outside of your pants, this holster conceals as well as just about any IWB I've ever used.

  10. For the most part all of the threads I read about the MR bulletfeeder said it was $550 and great. Then I saw the Ultimatereloader video of the RCBS feeder with a hornady feed die. That's $450 and does multiple calibers. Didn't even consider the Hornady (at least half of the reviews I've read say that the electric motor dies) I really want to start using a turnkey press since I've done a lifetime's worth of tinkering with my Pro 1000.

Was just about to pull the trigger on the RCBS setup and I ended up on Powerfactorshooting.com MrBullet is $470 with free shipping!

    It's in the mail...

You will be MUCH happier with the Mr. Bulletfeeder. The reason for the discrepancy in price is that the new DAA/Mr. Bulletfeeders are cheaper than the older variants. They used to be $550.

  11. This was my first season in the sport, so I can't comment on last year, but I completely agree that this year rocked! Definitely one of the best Major matches I attended this year. The staff was friendly, professional, and efficient. There was a great mix of stages and everything ran like clockwork. A huge thanks again to everyone who made this happen!

    Nice shooting!

Thanks buddy!!! I would have liked to have shot a bit better (as always) but I'm pretty pleased with the results.

  12. Overall you shot a solid match at Indiana Rob. Second A is nothing to scoff at. I know we all have things we would like to go differently in the match (I'm right there with you).

Hopefully the weather will hold out and I'll see you at Oxford on Sunday.

Thanks Jonathan! You're right. In a field with 3 GMs, 3 Ms, good As and some very good Sandbaggin' Bs (*AHEM* :roflol: ), 8th overall isn't horrible. It's huge improvement over last year,

Congrats on the B win, BTW!

LOL! I wish that was the case. Everybody has a lucky day! Hopefully someday there will be a little bit of skill mixed in with my blind luck.

Thanks!!! All in all, it was a great way to close out my first season.
