  1. 50 posts it is....my wife thought it was hilarious when I explained the whole hunter/gatherer thing to her.  I had to explain it all because I was tickled that I was now a hunter and she didn't have a clue what I was talking about...funny stuff.

  2. Keith,

Yeah, you read the rules right...additionally under the "NON-INCLUSIVE list of EXCLUDED modifications:" you will note: "Extended oversize magazine release buttons".

The ambi button could fall under that exclusion.

You just gotta be careful because there's so many IDPAers who hate IPSC and will try to get you DQ'd if you appear to be too gamey, etc.

  3. Hey guys (and gals), I just wanted to let you know that I've done TT's bead exercise (listed at the beginning of this thread) for the past 6 mornings for a scant 2-4 minutes per morning and have noticed a huge difference in my eye's ability to quickly shift focus.  I've incorporated it into my daily regime and can't imagine how quick my eyes will be after a month or two of this exercise.  Great exercise for limited shooters.

  4. Ross,

I am no expert, but my understanding is that the A2 style flash hider had a closed bottom for two reasons:

    a) to prevent the muzzle blast from blowing dirt up off the ground when firing in the prone or foxhole positions

    B) to provide a mild compensation effect

I cannot comment on the effectiveness of the "mild compensation effect" because I've never shot the A1 hider vs the A2 hider on the same configuration AR, BUT I have shot the M16A1 and A2 and know that there's a big differnce in controllability that I would say is mostly due to the extra weight and longer stock of the A2.

    Hope this helps.

  5. So Brian, what was it like at the World Shoot when Robbie was DQed from that stage?  I mean, was it towards the beginning of the match and he figured he had hosed the whole thing or was it a surprise near the end of the match?  He musta freaked out when they DQed him?  What was he DQed for?

I think from now on you should tell a story about the answer to your "Question of the Month" once someone gets the answer.

  6. Holy crap!  I won?  It was mostly a guess, I was playing off of Erik's hint... I was bored as hell at work so I figured I'd go to the IPSC homepage and see if there was a third time that Robbie had won.

  7. I have some experience with titanium firing pins in NRA Highpower rifles, and have definite opinions, but was wondering what the consensus was concerning their use in 1911's?  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  8. Here's the pic I created off of Ron's pic.  It's not the greatest, but it's a start.  I would have like to have had the sights aimed slightly higher and serrations of the front and rear sights like my BoMar's, but I'm no computer wizard.  And yes, I know I need more light on either side of the front sight.

  9. Does anyone digitally have or know where I can find on the web a color picture of an IDPA or ipsic target with aligned BoMar's superimposed on it?  My plan is to hang the pic here in my cubicle to assist me in programming the sight picture in my brain.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  10. After thinking for awhile about this topic of clipping the recoil spring to fit the gun I decided I'd give it a try.  (Thanks for bringing it up Duane, I meant to try it but forgot about it.)  I'm currently shooting a 5" single stack 45 with the Cominolli frame saver guide rod, and using 16 lb recoil springs with 170 pf loads.  Last night I started clipping a spring, and in order for me to get the spring to where it wasn't fully compressed when pushing the plug towards the guide rod head I had to clip off a lot of the spring...I'm at work and don't have the clippings in front of me but I'd guess I clipped 2+ inches off of the spring.  This left the spring only a little longer than the guide rod itself.  I then assembled the gun and racked the slide.  It felt REAL easy to rack.  My fear is that I may beat the snot out of the gun, which ultimately is what this clipping is supposed to prevent.  Should I start with a heavier spring and clip to fit?  Should I shoot it and see what happens?  HELP!
