  1. I've been using a slick Kytac Super Hooper with a G-34 for SSP and Production for years.

Despite what some have claimed, this holster will not accommodate a G-41.

Since Kytac is defunct, who makes a nice straight drop IDPA/Production legal holster along the same lines as the Kytac?

  2. (thread drift on)

Here's a story of a NO CLASS MD... just for example... at a state match.

This clown drew his own name out of the hat first when the prize table was opened and helped himself to a Springfiled 1911.

Now--- obviously it could have been major league luck... but..... it sure smelled funny.

IMO if he was MD and doing the drawing he should have never had a ticket in the hat... and if he did... he should have passed on the prize table.

    (thread drift off)

I agree....I did although it was just crummy XD. :roflol:

  3. Ryan....I thought that was goofy when we handed them out.

    Never understood it at all.

Here is something that will make you cringe......the MD for said match gave himeself a DNF so as avoid the snivlling he received last year for being DC in a match in which he was MD.

Imagine how he felt when the DC went to a little kid who he beat by over 30 seconds......class act eitherway.

I made them put back my winning gun ticket for the real workers of the match......good karma for the whole event.

Hope your move goes smooth to Indy. They seem to like Barry and Hillary equally out there. :roflol:

  4. I have been on GT since 1999. Here is my take on the two. The BE forum is more like the Corvette Forum. Everyone for the most part is pretty civil. We do have opinions, some of mine are pretty strong. Glock Talk is like the Mustang forum. Lots of rude uninformed folks.

There are good folks on both forums. The BE forum appears to have more knowledgeable shooters. I suspect there is a much higher percentage of shooters that compete on this forum than on GT.

The 1911 forum seems to be in the middle.

Wow.....the only thing missing now is a statement about how all the IDPA shooters hang there too.

  5. UPDATE 2/10/07

Match is 25% full with plenty of slots available for all squads.

Experienced Range/Safety Officers are still being solicited and will be offered $30.00 off the match fee and a gun chance for EACH FULL day you work. Priority is being given to volunteers who sign up for both SAT & SUN staffing and shoot with the staff on Friday.

Currrently planning to give away (9) guns for this match (6 to match participants and 3 to the match staff). This very likely will go higher as match sponsors and budget gets better defined in the next 45 days.

  6. So my club is attempting to host a second sanctioned state match (major) and the issue of insurance liability has come up. Last year we pulled off an immensley successful, incident free match, drawing over 150 shooters.

This year the we are being asked what liability insurance is being provided, if any, by the national org that has sanctioned the match causing us to pause with a hmmmm. The host club has it's own operators insurance but I never considered anything else to be required until now. Fired an email off to the national org tonight but won't get answer till next week I imagine.

Who might be able to weigh in on this? What did or does your facility do to cover liabilities associated with hosting a sanctioned major match?

  7. Interesting thread........

I've gone back to just taking out the flare and have seen significant improvement in 9mm and 40 S&W mostly with fast powders.

Also of note, I don't even see the need for a crimp die on my 650 set-up as I get .420 in 40 and .378 in 9mm after the seating operation using a Redding Competition Seating Die for whatever reason. I think even most seating dies will at least just take out the flare. So I just screw the crimp die down in it's station till it makes contact with the cartridge and lock it down happy knowing the "fare reversal" as already been applied before arriving there anyway. In this case the Taper crimp die is just filling a hole....and spending money on the FCD is a total waste of both money and the effort it takes to stroke the press with it's significantly greater pull force.

  8. It seems that the only way I can stop the bullets from receeding .005 into the case during feeding is to crimp down to .415.  Is this dangerous?  Based on info gathered from this site I'm using an OAL of 1.150.

You need to re-evaluate your brass life. Case tension retains the bullet, not crimp except in your extream case........

Dangerous? Not the crimp.....but I bet your cutting into those plated bullets mighty well which will make them tumble like hell in poly barreled guns.

  9. Good to meet you too.

Ought to point out they never moved the NT indicators for the whole match,    So everyone got the same challenge in that house.  I found that out after the match ended on sunday.

Cool thing about that is they had the same fella run both  the SO's and competitors through the shoot house, which makes it more consistent IMHO.

FWIW, PAR time is conspiciously absent from the new rulebook.

    Ted

Good points. Not moving the indicators (essentially freezing the course of fire) was about as consistant has it gets (read fair). The expectation that the stage would be varied, but in the end was not, also mitigated guys coaching their buds after they shot the stage....another pitfall of shoot houses even with PAR time. Having the same experienced SO's on the stage the entire match added to the consistantcy.

PAR time....Gone. We talked about that allot in additional to the FTN rule that I allowed myself to get killed with for the match.

I still hate shoot houses for IDPA though.......... :D

  10. As it turns out....a slightly different method was used to designate the no shoots.

BLUE colored bandana's were the NO SHOOTS........sprinkled among white and red colored bandana marked SHOOT targets. Just silly and this latest go around reminds me how much I REALLY HATE shoot houses in IDPA.

Yeah I rocked it pretty bad....1 target missed and not engaged (with the associated FTN), and the sweetest center punch on a NO SHOOT you ever saw.

I agree with those that advocate the PAR time rule, but still don't like the course of fire. Has it's place in training though.

Ted.....good to me you and hope you enjoyed the weekend.

  11. Yes sir......maybe even using flip cards to determine what that color is......

    Shooter Ready?.....Beep......Flip card....see RED.....GO....DON'T shoot RED.

or maybe they'll go light and just designate color before you load and make ready.

Using colors to designate non threats is against the rules. For a sanctioned match that is not a very good thing to do.

    Ted

    E. Threat / Non-Threat Designation.

Threat targets may be designated by the painting of a gun or clipping the cutout of a gun on the target. This target designation is not mandatory, but is highly recommended. In no case should a gun and an open hand be positioned on the same target. Targets should be clearly designated as threat or non-threat.

Non-threat targets MUST be designated by the painting of an open hand or hands on the target or, in the case of a target with a shirt on it, clipping a cutout of an open hand or hands.

On a shoot through of a non-threat target that also strikes a threat target, the contestant will get the penalty for the non-threat target hit AND will get credit for the scored hit on the threat target. The reverse also applies when a round on a threat target penetrates a non-threat behind it. Hence the rule of thumb: all shoot throughs count (except on hard cover).

OMG....better go advise the Match Director.

  12. but shoot/no shoots change for each shooter with shirt color shifts.

Unless you are VERY carefull in your stage design you could inadvertantly give an advantage to some shooters by changing no-shoot arays. Personally I dislike stages where the aray is changed in any way from the first to last shooter.

    How Sooo?

    TR

  13. You can peak on course walk through but shoot/no shoots change for each shooter with shirt color shifts.

Please Elaborate. Is the shirt color denoting the non threat target?

    Ted

    "The Bridge Will Be There!"

Yes sir......maybe even using flip cards to determine what that color is......

    Shooter Ready?.....Beep......Flip card....see RED.....GO....DON'T shoot RED.

or maybe they'll go light and just designate color before you load and make ready.

  14. We got a real mind scrambler for the Maryland State Match this weekend.........

Nice work in getting it set-up. Local and Regional agencies already asking about training availability.

You can peak on course walk through but shoot/no shoots change for each shooter with shirt color shifts.

Don't think or plan too much

    Don't rely on cadence

    Don't shoot it first

An Oh yeah.....it's REAL DARK so you better practice your light techniques. :P
