  1. JP LMOS and their silent captured spring with an 18" rifle gas and adjustable GB with brake of your choice is a thing of beauty.

This is my setup. I have let many shooters who have never shot a tuned AR try it out.

    They usually say, 'Wow."

  2. M2 field is what you want.

24 or 26 inch barrel and either 10 or 12 in the tube seems to be the consensus.

I like 12 to simplify stage planning but it does get a bit unwieldly at times.

Don't ignore the option of picking up a used M2 if you find a good deal. There are duck hunters out there who might put less than 100 rounds per year through a Benelli and then sell if for ~700-800. Assuming it wasn't abused they have done the work of breaking it in for you and you can save $400 to spend on ammo, a tube, and a TTI lifter.

  3. I think the reason you aren't getting more responses is because most of the benelli owners here have either an M1, M2, Vinci, or SuperNova.

The M3 is a rarer bird so the pool of guys who have experience with them is smaller. I would offer some insight but I don't know anything about the M3.

  4. I've got the IP DeTurk lite vest. Holds 20 shotgun shells for quad loads and gets them up off of my belt. Belt vs. Chest has a variety of positives and negatives for each option but overall I thought the belt was a less optimal place for me.

The single band to secure the whole setup I found lacking so I ALICE clipped the strap into the molle of a very lightweight 5.11 chest rig. That completely eliminated movement or slipping.

  5. If you don't have a gut, it can be tough to keep it high enough. Mine will slip down and get in the way of my pistol mags on the front of my belt. I'm actually going to make another strap for it to go around my neck to hold it up.

I ALICE clipped mine to a 5.11 chest rig. Lightweight and low profile and no more slipping or moving.

  6. I'm not familiar with the factory round count for an M2, but I would go with the tube that would give you 12 round capacity in the tube, +1 in the chamber. Its always nice to be able to throw a quick Quad at the buzzer if you need to.

Exactly this. If there is the possibility for movement from the time you pickup your gun to the time you take your first shot, it is really nice to be able to throw in a quad. It also removes limitations on when you can load 4 or load 8 as you move through a stage, and eliminates some of the barriers on stage planning. I have shot a few stages where match directors put in some cramped walls and shooting ports that make a longer shotgun a little tricky to navigate, but I have also shot some big shotgun woods walk stages where you might shoot 30+ shells and freedom to load is nice.

If I were you I would stick with the 28 inch barrel though. Weight difference will be negligible, and a 28 will be closer to flush with a 12 round tube. Not much gain for the cost of a new Benelli barrel.

  7. They tend to just get in the way on a 3-gun rifle. They make sense on an M4 because with all the lights and lasers on limited rail space it is about the only option to get your thumb in the right place to activate a weapon light.

The trend towards slim, whole barrel enshrouding handguards in 3-gun has happened for a reason. I guess if the ergonomics just really fit you well you could make the case for a vertical grip but most guys are going slick or with just a simple small handstop somewhere.

  8. I have an Invictus Practical DeTurk lite vest. I really like the shell holders but the single band around my chest to hold everything in place left something to be desired. I have a 5.11 chest rig for AR and pistol mags. I don't use it for 3-gun but the ability to stuff a mag or two in it for stages starting in cars, etc will be nice. It has molle on the front and I used two ALICE clips to clip the band of the Invictus Rig to the chest rig. Instantly much more stable.

No more slipping down or twisting. There is a good chance I will tuck a pistol mag or two in there at some point.

I haven't tried using any brand of quad loaders from a belt, but from ROing quite a few competitors it seemed to me that I saw a lot of shells lost while going prone, and that the vertical dimensions of such shell caddies were problematic for some kneeling rifle positions.

I used to be firmly in the camp of 'everything on my belt' for 3-gun but some range time has me really liking getting the shotgun shells off the belt. It also removes a ton of weight from the belt on big shotgun stages.

I still have my AP customs 4x4s for marathon shotgun stages and as a way to segregate my slugs.

  9. I already have installed the TTI recoil spring, trigger spring, and hammer spring. Or do you mean a new carrier spring?

I think that is what he means. I just recently upgraded to a Benelli but my FN SLP started exhibiting these kind of malfunctions when the carrier spring became worn/tired.

  10. I wish you much luck, there is a reason the SX FNH are not widely used.

However they are a OK platform and with proper maintenance you should be happy till your not.

I am sure we have some satisfied user that will give you the low down on what they do to keep them in top shape.

I put a Briley stainless piston in mine. I replaced the lifter spring when it got tired after a bunch of rounds.

I put a little oil on it and it runs and runs. Shoots slugs poi/poa.

It is heavier than a benelli but other than that??!?

If you have some insight into what problems are expected I would genuinely like to know them because while mine has been trouble free I would like to know what to watch out for. I'm kicking myself for not buying a m3000 for a backup a few years ago. It was $275 out the door. *smacks forehead*

    Update:

Came across a used benelli for a price I couldn't pass up.

Tube, follower, lifter from shooters connection. Did the port work myself. Ran drills side by side with my FN.

Benelli is staying. FN is already SPF.

SX3 is a better shotgun than the SLP though. Lighter. Vent rib.
