Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Well I have been at this thing all morning and may have found the problem. I could not figure out how to adjust the arm that pushes the case all the way to the shell plate more and on some cases it was not going all the way. After the stroke I could take my finger, on the plastic triangle part and slide it to the left seating the case. I then realized it was doing it with possibly just the Hornady cases and so I looked at my Winchester cases compared to my Hornady cases and thought it was obviously thicker in the rim area. Well I took some measurements and with my Winchester cases they were measuring about .51 The Hornady was measuring closer to .56-.60 thick. I took out my three loading manuals and in the Hornady book it has the rim thickness of their 45 colt being .60. In the Speer manual they have a rim thickness of .52 and in my Lyman book it has the case rim for Winchester listed as .60 also. There seems to be some inconsistencies but the thicker rim of the Hornady may be what is causing all of the problems. Hope that made sense.
  2. Not sure I see the screw you are talking about. which part do you mean sir?
  3. Ok, I have read over and tried to search for this problem as im sure its prob. been covered before so sorry if I missed it. I am having a problem with my brass not going all the way into station one. Some times they go in just fine but lately they mostly dont go in all the way. Obviously this causes a problem with the case not lining up correctly with the first die. Sometimes I can move it with my finger and get it to go in......most times I have to remove the case all together and hope the next one goes in. This problem is slowing down the whole machine to a crawl. I have looked over the manual and cant seem to troubleshoot my problem. Here are some pics so you can get an idea of what im talking about. This pic shows the handle all the way up engaging the primer in the would be next case and as you can see, the case is still short of where it needs to be The next pic is with the part that pushes the case into station one all the way back Now just some different angles Thank you in advance for any help.
  4. I guess I was just nervous about taking it apart......but everything worked out good.
  5. Thanks guys. When I looked at the exploded view of the powder measure assembly I thought that the pitch in the bottom would keep the bullet from going all the way down. I was wrong of course. I took it apart and found that the 250 grain .45 bullet fit perfect right at the bottom of the system. It was clogging up the hole. I got it all taken care of and now I have a better understanding of how the powder measure assembly works.
  6. Thanks. You are correct. I had my first squib with that ammo. I will try to get the bullet out today. Thanks for the info. I will let you know the results. And yeah.....its a Dillon....650
  7. Ok....I had to pull a bullet and like a I was pouring the powder back into the powder tube and a bullet fell in the powder. I need to remove this bullet because I think it is over the spout and causing me to have low powder charges. My question is, can I remove the two phillips head screws in the side and lift up the powder tube without spilling the powder everywhere? Sorry for the noob question. Joey
  8. good point to consider. did you have a case in each station, all the dies loose and the tool head in the up position before adjusting and tightening your dies? No. I did it by the book because this was my first one. Each station was done separate.
  9. Thanks for the info on the primer decapping. I will try to find it in search.
  10. Hey yall, Im new here but thought I would post a pic of my new set up. Dillon 650
  11. Hey guys. I am new to the site however I did try to search first but could not find anything that covered this. I could have missed it though as im still trying to get used to this site. I got my Dillon 650 set up today and im having a couple small problems. 1) when my brass is is entering station number one to get decapped and sized some of the times the brass is not lining up right. If I notice this I have to (with my left hand) reach in and pull the brass towards the left to line up right. If I dont notice this I get brass that ends up looking like this: Im not sure why sometimes they are not going all the way in but I have noticed that im having some powder spillage and a couple times I have had to clean out the holders. Is it normal to have powder spillage sometimes? Im using Trail Boss. 2) I know I cant decap a live primer so when I get a case where I didnt properly seat the primer what would be the best way to dispose of the case? It only happend on the deformed case (totally my fault) but I cant use the case and the primer is live in it so im just looking for the proper way to get rid of it now. All of that being said I was able to manage to load up 110 rounds of .45 Colt. I was pretty pleased with the overall outcome. I think this machine will be awesome once I get the couple kinks worked out of it. As it is now I have to really watch close what im doing and take my time. I cant run it too quick yet. Here is my set up though. All input and comments welcome. Joey
