Just got an Aimpoint H-1 for ~$465 (including shipping, before tax) from: http://www.manventureoutpost.com/search.php?search_query=aimpoint They have pretty good prices on Aimpoints, but you have to register an account to see the prices.

I had read that post today when I did a search, but to be sure, do you take the retainer nut off after the loctite sets to put the barrel in, or is the barrel supposed to be on the whole 24 hrs? And lefty, is that because of a concern the outer nut will shift during the drying time, and putting in the retainer nut helps prevent it from shifting?

I'm installing a full length VTAC handguard. The instructions call for applying anti seize compound to the barrel retainer lock nut and screwing it into the extension nut, then letting the rifle sit overnight to let the Loctite cure. Why does the lock nut go on in this step, when it has to be taken off 24 hrs later to put the barrel on after the loctite cures? Maybe I am just misunderstanding when the barrel actually goes on

Thanks for the replies, I've never touched anything carbon fiber to know how hot it gets. Did not know either about the texturing on the VTAC helping. Probably going to get a VTAC, but if I paint it with Duracoat, will that get rid of the rough texturing?

I'm having trouble picking a new handguard for my 18" ar15. I see a lot of recommendations on here for the JP/VTAC handguard, and it does look good but I've read that it can really get hot when out in the sun for a while. I have been debating the VTAC, the hi-perform carbon fiber guard (because I am not sure if I need rails, but maybe it would be nice to have the option for a flashlight for a low-light stage), and the YHM Smooth Rifle handguard (seems very similar to the VTAC, but its $130 and has rails pre-mounted near the end) I dont have any plans to mount iron sights or red dots on the 1.5 o clock

Posted this in the wrong forum before, sorry, wasnt paying enough attention I really like the idea of JP Rifles' integral ACOG interface. Is this something I could hire a gunsmith to do aftermarket to another brand upper, or does it necessitate a pre-built order? I've gotten used to my ACOG at work over the past few years, but I've always felt it sat too high in its mount.
