  1. Thats excellent 6 seconds from 20 yards. I've been improving a little, I've been working on my follow through. I was getting a good sight picture and looking for the next plate while I jerked the trigger, you know what, that won't work. Since I figured that out I've been focusing real hard on a solid trigger squeeze through the shot maintaing a good sight picture and holding the trigger back watching the sight bounce and then go to the next target release the trigger and do it again. I'm getting lot better centered hits and my splits are in the .60 range and improving. I'll work on each segment by itself and try putting it all together later. I'm having a blast. Onward and upward, faster and better by being better and faster!!! JS
  2. I currently don't have the ability to post pics to the web, I'll see if someone has a camera I can borrow. I basicly built it around 3 axle assemblies, I put 3 fixtures with a piece of round stock sticking out both sides for the plates to fall/ hinge from. I left the axles a little longer on the outside ends to hinge the reset lever from. I used linkage similar to the one one Mike Gibsons web site: You can find his site from a search using mgm steel targets. I put a piece of 8" x 3/8 8 feet long at a 45 degree angle in the front of it to deflect low hits, It works much better than I ever expected it to. Total costs for the metal, hardware, oxygen, accetalyene, welding rods everything was less than 350.00. Not including electricity for welding or my time, I spent about 35 hours in the building of it. Its a real strait forward and simple design, I ended up using more metal than necessary because I built it so I could unbolt it into pieces so I could move it and transport it if needed. Any more info or questions I can answer please ask here or email me at joeynospam308w@yahoo.com minus the no spam: Joey S aka 308
  3. I live in Dixie County Fl. That is county on the north side of the Suwannee River goes into the Gulf of Mexico. I live in the woods, 100 miles south of the Capitol, Tallahassee and 140 or so north of the Tampa area. By KC I assume you mean Kansas City, a fer piece: Joey S aka: 308
  4. Well its been a little while coming but I finished my plate rack this past week and have put about 400 rounds of 45 on it and I must say it works just great! I built it to bianchi cup specs, 6-8 inch plates with 20inch center to center spacing. Now I have shot a long time and am a pretty good shot with no time limits being placed on me but have I got a lot to learn about shooting and hitting fast. I watched a video that I found at shooters paradise I belive it was where a gent shot the 6 plates down in 2.33 seconds. That leaves me almost depressed, The best I have done so far, get ready now, is about 7 seconds from the holster at 10 yards. Thats with a blistering draw to first shot of about 2 seconds and about a second per shot there after. I'm upset that I could not go faster than that with out missing but that was the way it was. I have some serious practicing to do now, Its a shame there is no one interested in pistol shooting close enough to me to come shoot my new plate rack with me, that would make it more fun I think, oh well I shall get better!!!! 6. tightloop, thanks for the reply. I have been looking at the commercial ones on the web and with this and doing what you did I think I can put one together that will work. Plans would be nice but I know how to "wing it" if I must. Thanks again:308
  7. I've been a lurker for some time now and am amazed at the pistol skills represented on this board. I've been a follower of Mr. Enos and Leatham since the early 80's when they use to be regulars on the covers of American Handgunner and similar gun rags. I'm a shooter who happens to be a full time LEO and have seen firsthand how poor the rank and file officer shoots. Most have no interest in improving skills on their own and gripe and complaing during the annual qualifications. I on the other hand love to shoot and would like to increase my skills and any others who are like minded. I realize this board is for the various ipsc, idpa etc. but better shooting is better shooting whether (Good Lord forbid) its real or the various shooting sports. I have a place to shoot where I live out in the woods and for some time have wanted to build a knock down plate rack. I can't afford the commercial made ones and have the ability to build it myself. I have a pretty good idea for how it will go together but a set of plans would make the job considerably easier. Up to know I have failed to find a set. Just the basic 6- 8" plate rack where you can shootem down and pull a cord or rope to reset them and shoot again. Do any of you know where I might be able to get some plans or ideas? Perhaps someone on this board has built one for their range or club and could help me out. My thoughts is that with the plate rack and slowly building up some other steel targets I might be able to persuade some other officers to come out and play therefore helping them and me get better. Sorry for being so long winded, this is a great site and although I don't think I will have much to contribute I have learned alot and will continue to learn from some of the best. Thank you for any help you can give me. Joey S, aka 308
