  1. When I was in high school we had people transfering out of the school district. Not because the school district was bad. It is one of the best. The science classes get equipment from Caltech to use, some of which I've never even used in college. People were transfering out because it was so competitive. Moving to another district allows them to climb up the class ranking. Being #1 at the new school carries more weight than top 10% for college applications.

  2. There is an airplane graveyard museum nearby Tuscon. Very cooll place, lots of planes including the Air Force One used by Johnson.

Just think, there's a company that buys those old planes in particular the B-52's as scrap. Then they refurbish any parts they can salvage and sell it back to the military since the military can no longer acquire those parts. They are making a ton of $$$$.

  3. You can't blame Detroit for everything. Detroit has to predict at the minimum 3 years ahead of time what people will want to buy. When gas was still under $2.00, no one cared about buying fuel efficient vehicles and their marketing forecast showed that so they haven't really focused on building fuel efficient vehicles. More effort was concentrated on things like cup holders that can adjust to every cup out there. With the sudden shift in gas prices and consumers looking for more fuel efficient vehicles, they ended up behind the curve. If gas prices were to suddenly drop to $1.00/gal, in about 3 years, there would be a bunch of fuel efficient cars that no one would buy.

  4. Just dealt with one of those idiot drivers I mentioned earlier where they NEED to be in the inside lane the second they merge onto the freeway. I was stopped on the metering light on an on-ramp. Two cars go by me in the carpool lane, but they got held up by a semi merging. I get the green, I always merge at no less than the speed limit since my car can do that. Seeing the 2 out of 3 lanes will be blocked by the semi and those two cars, I go for the inside lane at 70+ mph since it was clear. Then the idiot in the first car starts for the middle lane, even though there's no cars there, he keeps going and ends up right in front of me at 45 mph. I'm hard on the brakes and the a-hole then brake checks me. Oh how I wish we can ban stupid drivers.

  5. What really frosts me is when I see someone coming up fast behind me in the passing lane, I move over and at the same time they decide to pass me on the right

Typically what I see from people that you have been tailgating for the last 3 miles but they still refuse to move over to right is the second you see a gap big enough to pass, I'll floor it, then see the ahole in front start to change lanes when I'm now next to them, then they put on the blinker.

I've also come close to being put into the center divider by people that merge onto the freeway at 45 mph, but dive across 3 lanes to get into the inside lane without ever checking their mirrors.

California drivers, especially in minivans and SUVs, have this natural attraction to the inside lane regardless of how fast they are driving or the fact there are no cars in the other 4 lanes. If you see a minivan or SUV in the "passing" lane with no cars in the other lane while in Oregon, Nevada, or Arizona, I will bet you it has California plates.

I also hate when the California drivers in minivan or SUV driving in the inside lane sees the sign for exit in 1 mile proceed to slam on the brakes to slow down to get behind the car next to them despite the fact that there's a big gap in front of that car. Some how they think if they speed up, they'll miss the exit.

  6. My idiot roommate and also the one before that, both had flung their dog off the back of their trucks. Of course, they weren't paying attention when that has happenend and had to be flagged down by the person driving behind them. One of them did it twice with two different dogs. I did mention they were idiots.

  7. A friend of mine had a Range Rover before some idiot decided to run a red light and totaled it. He loved the thing. He said there a bunch of forums with wealth of information on the cars. Make sure you buy a service manual and keep it with the car. If it does break, it's usually pretty easy to fix. Make sure you keep a rifle cleaning rod in the car in case the solenoid fails that pops the gas cover open.

  8. Too bad the guy only has to pay the court fees, ~$1000. I think the court system should be set up so you had to put down something like 10% of what you are suing for, sort of like the $100 you have to put down if you want to go to arbitration at a match. This would cut down on a lot of frivalous law suits.
