  1. Thanks TSOL1 :) It was one of my better matches.. though I think by the middle of day 2, lack of practice was catching up to me and I had kind of a brain fade one stage.. I actually liked the straightforward, and straight ahead shooting of this year's match. No circus stages (and I like circus stages sometimes too) made it flow pretty well.

I prefer the standards in the rotation as opposed to "shoot it when you can" as it takes away some of the uncertainty of when I'll be able to schedule it. It also makes the stage better for the RO's who need run it, it's not such a long day. 2x4 or not, it doesn't matter to me since I don't go prone. Apparently it is an aid to the shooter.. maybe it should stay off since we who turn then draw don't get any sort of help.

I believe that chrono needs to be put into the rotation also. Put it side by side with a fast stage. Run the stage, then run the chrono. 30 mins for the stage, 30 for the chrono.. so there is no mad dash to get it done.

The thought of how the match was set up.. it's true that people like this or that, they like stages where you do X. Speaking as an MD of other major matches.. it's tough coming up with something new and improved when you have a limited base to choose from. I can see that the same people are doing the same work. There needs to be new blood and new people stepping up to run the match. If I weren't so overtaxed in my other committments, I might do this too.. but if I picked up one more thing, I might have to take a trip to the loony bin. The IRC is a very big job that needs more new volunteers to step up and help. It's the one match that I make a special effort to attend every year. Kudos to Art and his team for a well run and fun match.

  2. I've shot it both ways... last year I shot it timeless in about 28 and change.. this year with a LOT less practice I managed a 27 WITH a miss... Those who practice and can shoot it will always be at the top score wise, those who can't will always complain. The first time I shoot F&N I shot an 80... then something in the mid 40's range.. If I can break 40, I am generally doing well. I've run it side by side, taking my time on timeless and found that I did worse than trying to go at a medium speed with and without par times and it didn't really make a difference either way. I always stand facing uprange at surrender. 9 seconds allows a 3 second draw, and just under 1 second per shot.. very doable.. When I was shooting classic, I found that when I took my time reloading at 10 and 3, I actually finished with more time to spare than if I rushed myself.. Par time is actually harder to zero than timeless is..

  3. I did it, I finally did it!! HOA Limited 6 shooter!!!! :)

Only been waiting 10 years for that one.. lol... 61st OA, 10th Limited A, 25th Limited in the OA.. and I caught a bug while there.. this was a great match.. nice straight ahead shooting, no circus stages, just stand and deliver..

  4. *sigh*

Well, practice has been fleeting for me.. I think I'm just going to try not to make any mistakes (like last year).. dealing with local club business has cut into my practice time in a large way.. I hope to finalize my ammo situation this weekend. Should be a fun match.

  5. I was lucky that I found a 6.5" 610-2 Classic no lock model in about 2000 or 2001.. that is my main competition gun.. After badgering S&W at various venues for several years they finally came out with both a 6.5" and 4" model in 2010.. I placed an immediate order for the 6.5" -3 and then figured I should get a 4" just in case I ever wanted to play that "other" action game.. I prefer the 40 cal over the 45 so it's something I'd rather stick with.. I too don't know why they go in fits and spurts.. I'd like to see a blue model.. but then they'd have to call it something else since the model 10 is taken I think?

  6. Sarg...I had issues swing a 6.5 on transitions

Well, then for you, heavy is not better :)

I prefer a heavy gun, in everything.. so I don't seem to have the transition issue.. that I know of.

I try to prep my trigger as I'm transitioning so that when I see the A zone, I am touching off the round and then starting my second squeeze. I tend to go for all Alphas if possible.. speed comes with experience, why be sloppy?

I've sat and timed my reloads.. when everything works, I average 2.25-2.5 secs per reload with the TK custom/RIMZ combo. My bullet is pointed like the 170 gr Bear Creek in 357.. I don't have such an aggressive chamfer on my 610 though..

  7. The 22 jet was one of these oroginal bottle neck cases in a revolver.. and while some people could make them work, most people could not and that was the issue. I could see utility in a 357 sig in a 610.. it would make loading very quick since you're trying to fit a 35 cal bullet into a 40 cal hole. With moon clips you no longer need headspace on the case, you headspace on the moon clip. Lower pressure loads could make for a nice soft shooter.. It would be a disadvantage against the 8 shooter in ICORE, but would be fine as a 6 shooter in USPSA. It might edge out the 610/40 S&W combo in reloading speed due to the smaller bullet/large case holes. You'd need a custom cylinder and a custom barrel, but the moon clips are already available.

  8. In the 4" gun, the 625 might be a bit better, but since the 610 can be had with a 6.5" tube, and the 625 only a 5", I think the longer sight radius and extra weight of the larger 610 may actually make for faster follow up and recovery over the reload time.. I switched to a more pointed 40 cal bullet to remedy some of the reloading issues I felt were had with a regular RN. I fired my 610 yesterday after having shot a 686 classic gun with Bear creek 158 rn's and right away felt 100% better.. the 610 was more stable, faster recovery, and obviously the moon clips speeded up reloading.. I've only seen a few 625's with a 6.5" tube, one is a two tone that John Bagakis owns.. I believe the 6.5" tube was taken off of an older model 25 since the frame is stainless but the barrel is blued. If I could get a 6.5" 625, I'd think about it a bit more seriously.

  9. As a 6-gun shooter, I try to come up with creative ways to keep myself 6 round neutral.. it doesn't always work out, but I've saved a few reloads by marching to my own drum as it were.. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I try not to get caught up in the "conga-line" that I see most everyone else get caught up in.

  10. I managed 2nd B Classic..I missed HOA Classic by about 5 secs.. The first place finisher and I seem to go neck and neck every year despite our division choices. John Bagakis won Limited, Rich Wolfe won Open.. Jason Stieber won Classic. 124 shooters and I think we were done before 5.. It was a good mix of fun stages.. thanks again to the MD Chris Sallee and RM Dave Wilson and all the RO's who helped get us through.

  11. And people ask me why I shoot a 6-gun... simply because I get to shoot twice as long and sometimes as much as 3 times as long as the rest of you :)

  12. I have heard that Solo 1000 may be reverse temp sensitive.. I'm not sure I've experienced it though.. I've always made PF either at the higher end or lower end of temps (2011 Nationals in 90+ degree heat, 2011 IRC on a rainy 50 degree day). Same load, same bullet, same gun. 3.8 Solo 1000, 185 Cast lead RN, 6.5" 610, Federal #100 primers, mixed 40 S&W brass.

  13. The RIMZ were made based on the 610-2 and will work with the 610-3. I think the manufacturer did not have a 610 original model to try to make his clips with. You may want to contact the gent making them to work with him if you have a model earlier than the 610-2.

  14. I've not tried the Hearthcos in the 610 yet.. haven't gotten my hands on any.. I've used the RIMZ for several years and they seem to hold 40's pretty well. The brass in a 40 is fairly short compared to a 38 and they just don't move all that much since the rimz keep them pretty snug regardless of brand of brass unlike the metal moon clips that tend to favor specific kinds of brass, especially in the 38 super/38 sc/38 lc/38 spl calibers.
