  1. Does anyone know how to increase dot intensity on a BSA 42mm sight? Have it installed on a .22 that I use for outdoor steel matches and even at highest setting, cannot pickup the dot. Uses a 3V Lithium #2032. Thanks!
  2. I'm just beginning reloading 38 Super on my new XL-650 in the last week. First loads coming off are for IPSC Major and using Hodgdon HS-6 which is the powder used by a friend in his Super's. So, this is what I've initially bought to get started along (readily available locally) with 125-gr. Zero RN bullets. I do want to switch to VV powder soon, but waiting on a group purchase that will save all of us on the Hazmat fee. However, I want to download the aforementioned load, if possible, to make a decent, softer shooting steel and NRA Action load. (There's nothing referenced on Jeff Maass' site or others that I can find.) Would like to be around a 130 PF or so. Right now, using Winchester +P factory that still comes in at 153-155 PF. Any suggestions from you guys who have a history with HS-6? Thanks!
  3. Need to invest in a set of good electronic ear muffs. Of all the brand names out there, who comes out on top as the best for the price? Will appreciate leading me to where to get them also.
  4. I also had a bad experience with Infinity when I sent an SV 38 Super over to have tuned. Even though they did not charge me, it still would not run, so a waste of time and cost on freight. Likewise, sent it to Benny Hill and got it back in 2 weeks with it running superb. Plus, plenty of tips and personal assistance when requested!
  5. Looks like overwhelming support for the 650! Thanks for all of your comments & suggestions...here I go!
  6. I have narrowed down my decision of a Dillon press to either the 650 or Square Deal mainly because I want the auto-indexing feature. I've priced both, with the options that will make it a nice package, and close to ordering through BE. This is my first reloader since a single-stage RCBS when I was a kid, so want this press to last me into my "Golden Years"...Senior/Super-Senior/Golden Buckeye Card, whatever other breaks, discounts, & free coffee I can get! (It will be here before I know it!) So, wanting some suggestions based on the following: 1) May not ever reload rifle, 2) Currently shoot 38 Super, 40 S&W, & 45ACP, 3) Shoot approximately 1000 rounds a month total (but rising), and 4) Don't have a lot of time on my hands due to responsibilities at work. I'm concerned with the inability to add a separate crimp die to the SD, but maybe this isn't that big of issue. I shoot 2-SV's that are finicky with feeding. Suggestions appreciated ahead of time! 7. Thanks for everyone's contribution to the post...appreciate all in their thoughts, URL addresses, & pics to help me make the right decision.
  8. Getting close to final decision on which Dillon press to buy to begin reloading. I know a rock-solid bench is essential, but don't have a lot of spare time to build something from scratch. Of all the usual Lowe's or Home Depot packages, can anyone steer me toward something that will be suitable that you have used? Suggestions appreciated!
  9. WarpS, Got that one printed off so adding to it from others.
  10. Moving toward reloading my own 38 Super Auto. Shooting a SVI, 5" AET/6-port Yanek comp. Assembling suggested & favorite loads, so want to get some additional through this post. Interested in both a Major PF IPSC load & Steel/NRA Action Minor ones. Suggested OAL from my smith for good reliability is 1.245-1.250 Realize will need to verify through a chrono, but your feedback is appreciated for both powder & bullet.
  11. L9, Recoil spring is an ISMI 10-lb. I'll try an 11 or 12 to see if Major runs. (Edited by riden at 9:16 pm on Jan. 11, 2003)
  12. Have just had a reliability job done by a reputable pistolsmith on a SVI 38 Super Open gun. Work included angle modification to barrel feedramp as well as some minor parts installed. Gun was tested before returning with Major loads using all mags (these were all tuned as well) with no issues. Smith stated that I should run rounds down to 1.245-1.250 OAL's and ensure crimp is at .377-.378. Current Major reloads were at 1.264 using a 130-gr. bullet. So, ran loads back through press to push down to 1.250. (I know...increased case pressure!) Also recrimped to the smith's recommendation. Couldn't run more than 10 rounds through without a failure to eject or feed last night. Took gun home, cleaned well, lubed, & removed the shock buff. While testing further today, and after I ran out of the Major reloads, stuffed 2 mags full of Winchester/USA factory (130-gr. Minor rounds/155 PF). All went through with no issues in pretty rapid-fire fashion! Major loads ran better with only failures to eject. Thoughts & advice from here? A little more info on gun---Schuemann barrel w/Yanek-Infinity 6-port comp. (Edited by riden at 9:47 pm on Jan. 11, 2003)
  13. Steve, Don't worry, you'll get your chance to prove your abilities with the Beretta 87T. Pistol ships tomorrow, so maybe to my FFL on Friday...too late to get scoped & zeroed unless I take the day off as vacation. Hmmm....I'm the boss, so maybe an executive decision!
  14. Mike, Thanks much...emailed Benny and he responded right back and said to send the pistol...2-week turnaround!
  15. The work I need is some extractor/ejector tuning and trigger adjustment...so not that big of deal. I cannot seem to find anyone close due to backlog and the season starts in a couple months.
  16. Looking for a good 1911 pistolsmith for some work. Have had Kent Singletary recommended. Has anyone had or know of someone having work performed by him?
