  1. I just loaded my first batch of .357 sig ammo yesterday. I decided to seat and crimp in two stages instead of one. I was just trying to be careful and get it right. Do you guys think this is an unneccessary step or a good idea with this particular round?
  2. Thanks for the replies. I'll definitely pick up a reloading manual really soon.
  3. I just picked up a used RCBS single stage kit. I've never reloaded before and I'm eager to get started ASAP. The used gear that I bought included some rifle die sets, but nothing for the handguns that I'd like to load. I'd like to buy some dies, but I have a noob question first. Are the die sets all compatible? For example, can I use a Lee die in my RCBS press?
  4. Good Luck with your LASIK procedure. I'd like to hear how that works out.
  5. Thanks everyone for your replies. Just to be clear, I'm not asking about dropping empty mags, I'm asking about dropping mags that still have rounds in them.
  6. I have never heard of Sig mags having a problem ... but I do know that some of the older Glock mags occassionally had that problem. Nonetheless, the XD mags slide out like butter! I shoot a Sig Pro, so I can't speak for all Sig models. While shooting, the top cartridge in the Sig Pro magazine slides forward just enough to prevent the magazine from dropping freely, if attempted while cartridges are still in the magazine.
  7. Can anybody tell me whether or not the XD magazines drop free? I've shot Glocks and Sig Pros in Production, but hate that you have to reach up and rip the mags out. I understand that this is an "engineered feature" in the Sig and the Glocks are more of a "slow drop"...sorry Glock fans. What are the XDs like?
  8. I'm thinking about getting an XD(M) in 9mm to shoot in the USPSA/IPSC Production division. Has anyone tried the (M) models? What do you think? Worth the extra money?
  9. Thanks for the feedback. Well it appears that .357 sig slugs are less expensive than .40, but what about the brass? Are you guys debating the brass issue because .40 brass is less expensive, more availability, etc? Please explain.
  10. Guys, Thanks for your feedback. It sounds like I need to attend some matches and see some things for myself. I'm looking forward to checking into the ranges that you've mentioned. It appears that Norco is pretty close. DB
  11. My job has recently taken me from Arizona to California. AZ is a great state when it comes to guns and gun laws. I was also lucky to shoot at the range that many of the top pros call home. I have to admit, I'm stunned by all of the crazy gun laws here in CA, but I digress. I never paid much attention to L-10 in AZ, but now that I reside in CA I'm starting to notice little blurbs here and there about L-10 being designed for states with hi-cap restrictions or other limitations. I'm assuming that CA is one of those states. So, I'm curious, does that mean CA doesn't have or allow Open or Limited competitions? Is it even legal to possess hi-cap mags? How does it work here? Help!
  12. I've read and/or heard several times now that you want a fuzzy target and clear focus on the sights, especially the front sight. I'm nearsighted and I'm curious if other shooters with a similar condition have found it better or worse to shoot with or without prescription lenses or contacts. It seems to me that a prescription could be optimized for shooters, but I'm not sure.
  13. Do any of you experienced shooters have a preference for shooting a blued vs. stainless or chromed pistols? Just wondering if this has any impact on glare, sight picture, etc?
  14. My pistol is currently chambered for .357 Sig. I have been using Winchester White Box ammo to shoot steel matches at my local range. Using the WB ammo has become increasingly expensive (roughly $0.46/round) and I'm beginning to seriously consider the idea of reloading my own ammo. Additionally, I have the option of dropping in a .40 S &W barrel into my gun, which leads me to my question. What are the advantages/disadvantages of reloading these two calibers? Cost, recoil, availability, etc.? Any feedback on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
