  1. It's a fact and I did it from the hip.

Wouldn't reccomend it if you have a compensated gun though.

I did it many years ago after I saw Bob Munden bragging about being the fastest gun in the world on the TV.

He was telling the reporter that he could draw in less than 0.02 seconds!!

After talking to World record holder Ernie Hill at the Ernie Hill Desert Classic in 1991 I was convinced that Bob Munden was telling a bedtime story.

Ernie Told me that the record in fast draw was 0.21 sec and that he held it.

Later back home in Sweden me and couple of guys went out to the range and tried to get near his time using our 1911 45:s.

The closest we got where my time of 0.38 seconds and I actually hit the target in the A-zone.

First we tried the normal draw, aim and fire. Our best times where around 0.7 seconds and the results where rather erratic.

The we tried hip shooting and the times went down a bit but it was really hard to hit the target.

After practicing for a couple of ours my best time was 0.38 second.

O'boy, we where young, fast and rather stupid then...

Now 43 and being a dad I wouldn't dream of doing it again....

    Whats your fastest time?? :sight:

  2. I made my own trigger job many years ago with a brownells bought trigger jig. I think I made it really good as it has worked flawlessly for many thousand rounds ( ~30.000).

It's now in my second OPEN gun.

I have the weight set at around 2 Lbs or just below 1.000 metric grams.

I feel that this weight is about right for me as I live in Sweden where we have a rather cold climate.

In the winter we have a lot a snow and freezing temperatures from mid october until late march.

I feel that if I go lighter I will have trouble in the cold.

What do you feel is right for you and your climate?

  3. Whats the real benefit of lightning the slide?

I have not done this since I have used my slide for dual purposes. I both use it for IPSC OPEN and some 25 yard precision shooting where I'm not using the optical sight (C-more).

I see a lot of guns here with a lot of holes in them, are all the holes there to make the gun look pretty or have they a real purpose?

I can understand that a light slide makes the cycle faster but is there a real benefit for it?

Would the service life of the slide be shorter if I mill away a lot of metal from it? The weight is there for a reason and by design, right? Or did JMB just shoot from the hip when he designed the gun??

I migh be out on a limb here but you might straiten me out a bit.

Might be a question already asked but I couldnot find it when I did a search.

    Cheers

  4. Hi,

As a long time OPEN shooter I have never used a slide racker and would like to hear the Pros and Cons of it.

I'm reluctant to add another thing that might hinder the performance of the gun and mybe affect the reliablility.

    Whats your experience of it?

Should I go with it or not?

    Thanks

  5. i must tell you a story about a guy at mu local club who thought he was doing a safe thing with his 44 mag handloads.

Standing beside him at the range I heard him complain about the lousy accurcy of his new gun.

-Shit, this gun aint hitting anything, not even in the white!!!! (25 meters and 10 ring precision target).

Well, he comes over and ask me if I could spot for him and maybe see where the shots are going.

Ok I said, standing behind him I notice while he's shooting that he has a VERY weak load in that big 44 mag revolver.

-What load are you haveing I ask?

-His reply, It's a reduces target load as I'm new to the 44 mag and don't want to flinch while I learn to shoot it.

-Ok, I say. But it has to be very low as there is unburnt powder dripping from the muzzle everytime you lower the muzzle!!!

-yea, but it's nice and comfortable to shoot he replies.

We check the targets and he has not one shot in the target...

Five more shots and he walkes up to me saying. -Strange, the cylinder won't come out any more, not even rotate when I try to cock the hammer????

What had happend? The guy has 10 shots stuck in his barrel!!!! AMAZING that the gun did not go KABOOM.

Lesson learned, don't be too careful loading your ammo, you might get stuck.

The guy later told me that he had to have his gunsmith drill the bullets out as they where sitting so tight that it was impossible to knock them out.

PS. Please tell your funny handloading story as well.

  6. Hi,

I have an old colt 9mm barrel that I'd like to put into my slide but I can't find a matching bushing for it.

All the bushings that I can find have a too large size (inside diameter). It seems that the Colt OEM bushing is smaller than the aftermarket stuff.

    Any ideas?

    Best regards

  7. Hi all,

I shoot a 2011 38 super and it works really good and ejects cleanly. I have made the gun myself from SPS frame, Caspian slide and a Nowlin barrel.

My problem is that when I try to eject a live round it won't eject the way I like (I have a SVI pretuned ejector). The nose of the bullet hits the front side of the ejection hole. This never happened on my 45 or my 9mm 1911.

I know the reason and it's the ejector lenght. But, to get the ejection to be really nice and long everyone told me to have an ejector that is as long as possible.

So, my question is. Is it not possible to have a combination of clean brass ejection together with clean live ammo ejection??

Actually it's not a big problem, only a really small one if I get a stoppage and need to eject a dud round.

Happy New year and I wish you all a good 2009

  8. Hi all,

I have the possibility to buy 6.000 145 grain lead bullet for less than half the price of 124 grain MFJ bullets, should I buy them?

I'm not intending to use them for competition, just for practice.

What's your thought about this? I'm thinking that it can't do any harm as it wil let me practice more for less.

I used to shoot 135 grain speer gold (If I remember right) the last time I shot in 2001. These bullet where really sweet to shoot.

    Any opinions or thoughts.

By the way, I'm shooting an SPS 38 super with a caspian slide, 5,5" Nowlin barrel and a quad comp and a C-more.

    Many thanks

  9. Hi,

First I'd like to introduce myself.

My name is Fredrik Lundbeck, 43 years old and I'm from Sweden in Europe.

I have been shooting IPSC since 1987 and I have been in the US around 11 times to compete and to meet my IPSC friends in Phoenix AZ.

I'm proud to say that I have shot together with Arnt Myhre many times. At several occations I have also met and shot together with Robbie Leatham and Brian Enos (mostly skeet and trap).

I have learned a lot from Arnt who might be one of the best shooters that I have met in my life (including Robbie Leatham and Brian Enos).

I consider Arnt Myhre as one of my best long time friends outside Sweden.

We have been friends since the 1991 and still talk guns, shooting, life and.......;0)

Many years ago I remember that Brian Enos, Doug Boikin and some other shooters took me out eating to a Mexican resturant and had me eat some food that was soo frigging hot and spicy that I still can taste it today.

Thanks for that Brian, I'd bet that you and the guys had a real laugh on me, my face and tounge got soo red and I sweated as a pig. I think that it was in 1995 when Arnt got married.

    Now to my question;

Many years ago I got a Caspian slide from a friend that he thought was a 38 super slide. After testing it on my 38 super gun it had lots of ejection problems and measured the breach face. It was slightly larger than my 38 slide. The slide is unmarked on the outside so there is nothing telling me what caliber it is. Well it's not 45 since that case won't fit at all.

I don't know what the widh should be if its a 40 SW so I need some help.

Is there any other way to tell what caliber a slide is? Markings inside or???

Or what size has a 40 SW?

Well that more or less sums it up.

    Cheers
