  1. Hi,

As a Swedish guy I have learned to love the Phoenix area over the years.

I have traveled there to visit my old friend Arnt Myhre who shoots with TGO and Brian Enos.

Been there all months except June, July and Agust and I must say it's just lovely.

I have learned to love the desert and the mountains and the heat over the years.

The first time I was there I thought it was just TOO hot but grown in to it.

In Stockholm, Sweden where I live we have more or less the same climate as Ohio.

The best thing about the area for a shooter is that they shoot all the time and almost everywhere.

The place is just perfect for it as well as the climate.

One funny thing is that most of the guys I know there are as pale as me and I'm live in a place with very little sun.

So buy yourself a nice hat and wear high legged boots when you hike and enjoy life.

The shooters there are among the friendliest I have met in my life so far.

Robbie Leatham, Brian Enos and Arnt Myhre are the nicest guys there is.

Spring greetings from a warm Stockholm, sunny 62,6F at the momentCL%2008129%20Stockholm%20Slottet%20skeppsbron%20Kunkl%20krona%20morgon.jpg

  2. Well fellas,

I don't mind as long as it gets as interesting as this thread has become.

If I dig out the essential parts for me the thread says that I can go either way with my parts.

Both will make MAJOR with a 9x19 but with slightly different results.

The Storm lake barrel and the Brazos cone comp will get me a fairly normal MAJOR 9 gun and

the Schuemann 4-hole hybricomp with Brazos comp with the right powder (sp2) will get me really flat and REALLY loud gun.

So far the thread comments makes me think that I should be bold and take the Schuemann hybrid route :0)

It also says that I should by really GOOD hearing protection and inform the RO:s that my gun will be loud before I start a stage.

As I'm working in a field where boldness is rewarded (marketing) I think that I will go the hybricomp way and look no further.

Many thanks to all who answered my question.

It might take a little while before I can answer your untold question "How did it go?" as I'm currently unemployed. But as soon as I'm employed again and have some cash to spare the change will happen.

And I promise that I will get you all a full report of how it works when it's done and tested.

    Many thanks

  3. Ok, I get the point but what I really need is a WHY?

I have no trouble loading a lot of powder and free have access to all the brass I need for 9mm.

I also have no problem with a loud gun.

Is the general opinion that the hybricomp gun would be to heavy? or just to loud? The people that I have talked to all says that the gun would be really loud and really flat shooting if I go with the hybgricomp Option.

The same guys say that the cone version would be more or less the same that I have just a different caliber.

I have been shooting a cone comped 38 super for the last 20 year in both 1911 and 2011 configuration and am looking for a flatter shooting gun. My current setup is a standard caspian slide with a 5,5" nowlin barrel and a four chamber comp from the old days. No lightning cut what so ever.

Current load is 9,2 grains of Vectan SP2, Federal SP primer and 124 grain Tmj bullets. Factors out around 173.

So an honest opinion would be?

Heavy gun with lots of holes or a lighter gun with fewer holes???

  4. As the title says:

I'm gonna rebuild my 38 Super OPEN gun when I run out of brass.

Now i need your thoughts regarding which way to go from here.

Please have in mind that I shoot with the international IPSC power factor 160 for OPEN.

And also note that I have access to free brass (once shot)

Ejection will not be a problem since I use a Quinn C-more mount.

And I have the following parts to choose from.

Option one: Storm Lake 5" barrel and Brazos cone comp

Option two: Schuemann 4 hole hybricomp 5.5" bbl and either a Brazos thundercomp II (4 chambers and bleeder holes at the sides) or Bedell Steel comp (Three chambers and four side ports.

The Brazos comp is a bit lighter than the Bedell which might be an advantage

    Caliber 9 mm Major

    Bullets 124 TMJ

    Powders that I can use are: Vectan SP2, Withavouri 105, 350, 3N37, 3N38

Primers Federal SP or SR. I'm currently use SP and have zero problems with them in 38 super.

Brass: Fiocchi, Sellier & Belliot, Magtech all once shot police brass that I get for free

    Man thanks

  5. SPS Magazines and the SPS Company are from Spain in Europe.

I use both SPS magazines and SVI magazines in my SPS gun and both work well.

I see no problem for you as an American to order Para specific magazines from Spain.

Just go along and order them if you cant find magazines stateside that work in you para.

    Cheers

    Freddie

  6. My mistake.

It's a 5,5 Inch barrel with threads on the end.

I have both a Bedell Ti comp and a Brazos thundercomp II that I can put on.

I have no problems cutting of one or more ports if the comps are making the gun too hard to cycle properly.

The powerfactor here in Europe is 160 which is IPSC:s international standard.

  7. Hi,

I have a Schuemann 5-hole Hybrid laying around and I'm thinking I could use it for a 9mm Major projekt that I have been thinking of.

Before you suggest that I get another barrel. It's not that easy as I'm outside the US.

So this is the barrel I have and getting another is not an option at the moment.

    What are your thoughts?

My bullet and powder would be

124 grain copperplated RN and Vectan SP2 or Withavouri 3N38 or 3N37

  8. Hi all,

A while ago I saw a post about a kit you could buy from Brownells.

It had ball, spring and a peener of some sort, all in one kit.

I need it for a slide racker that I have on my OPEN blaster.

I had a long look at Brownells today but I couldn't find it.

Is there someone who knows the part number or have a link to where it is.

Please post it here or PM me with the info.

    Thanks in advance

    Freddie

PS. As I'm outside the US I cant just walk in to the nearest gunsmith and have it done for me.

  9. When I compare my old Caspian hammer to my new Koenig hammer it's a very big difference.

The Koenig hammer has much less material to the top where it connects to the disconnector rail.

And therefore it's much more easy to rack the slide.

I thinks this also improves slide speed and ejection.

This combined with a light slide and an effective comp makes the gun really smooth shooting.

I think it's a good thing to have the hammer not touching the disconnector rail as much.

But it must touch the disconnector rail to be cocked though.

    Cheers

    Fredrik

  10. A friend told me that the new grip that he got (lucky bastard) feels like a Tanfoglio and is slimmer than the 2011 grip that he replaced. He said he liked it very much.

    Cant afford it myself though...

Good luck with your new Blaster..

    //Fredrik

    Tease yourself or tease us.

Congrats on the new blaster!

  11. I currently have a SPS/Caspian Open gun and I'm using SPS mags and find them great for my shooting.

When I look here there is always a higher demand for the SVi mags than either the STI or the SPS mags.

    Why is that?

Is the SVI mags better or do they hold more rounds?

If they are so great why are they so hard to get?

If I ran SVI I would make more magazines since there is always people asking for them.

    I just need to know

    Many thanks

  12. It might be that the new extractor forces the firing pin stop to the left and makes it contact the ejector.

So check that the ejector is not rubbing on the firing pin stop as this would make the slide NOT go in to battery.

As for the fitting of the aftec extractor to the firing pin stop I'm not sure as I have never used one.

    //Fredrik

An Aftec extractor is supposed to pivot a little on the firing-pin stop. If you have to hammer it in then it either means that the slide stop has not be radiused or the springs in the Aftec got dislodged while it was being installed so it's not working right.

Also make sure that the extractor is not hitting the barrel. If you do a search on Aftec on this forum you should find some more information about how it should be setup.

    Thanks for the reply.

What do you mean pivot a little on the firing pin stop? And do you mean "firing pin stop" instead of "slide stop" when talking about the radius?

What I don't understand is, even if that were the issue, why would the slide be binding up in the last 1/8" when returning to battery?

  13. Accurcy unlimited and Frank Glenn did the barrel fitting and I did the rest myself.

    My gun is a:

    SPS frame

    Caspian slide

    Nowlin 38 super barrel

    Earschel Mfg quad chamber comp

    Quinn C-more mount

    C-more slide ride converted Serendipity

STI grip with undercut trigger guard and stippled and painted grip

    SPS magazines

    Koenig hammer

    Cylinder & Slide sear

    SVI sear spring

    SVI disconnector

    STI short trigger

    SVI aluminium magwell

I load 124 grain FMJ RN with 8,2 grains of Withavouri 3N37 powder and Federal 100 primers

  14. Links shouldn't break off. It seems that you have some serios barrel fit problems on you guns.

AFIK the link should NEVER break since the barrel feet should hit the vertical inpact area first (the frame).

To my knowledge the barrel link only breaks if the vertical impact if too far back (rear of the gun).

I recommend that you send both guns back for either a refund or replacement.

    //Fredrik

I noticed similar dings on my Open gun while using a Recoilmaster. They were bad enough interfre with the barrell lug and had to be cleaned up. I have switched to a standard one piece guide rod and have not seen any further damage.

    Ray

I'll switch to a guide rode I guess, as I did with my other gun (I would have assumed that a barrel would be made of a tougher material though).

Just to add to the general misery, the barrel link broke recently on this gun too. On my other ("custom tuned") STI the link pin broke a month ago (and barrel damaged), now on this gun (EDGE 5.0) the link itself broke in half. Both guns had cca. 4,000 rounds each and were purchased in January. It is screwing up my match schedule completely.

Is there something wrong with sti's quality management, or should I have never quit shootin' that glock..? I think my next gear will be something like custom svi from someone I know..
