  1. Dillon part #13005 Powder Activator, Pistol has just a tapered nose to bell the case and does not have an expander function. It will bell the case enough to seat the bullet but will not expand the case and will not cause any sticking. I don't have a photo handy but will try to post one later.

  2. I am happy to announce the 2016 New Mexico State Wild Bunch Action Shooting Championship! May 28-29, 2016. It will held at Founder's Ranch in Edgewood, NM, the SASS world head quarters. 10 stages of fun and excitement. There will be side matches on Saturday, a potluck/cookout/party at Rio Grande Brewery in Moriarty on Saturday night and some great awards on Sunday. Plan on 300+ pistol rounds, 90+ rifle rounds and 75+ rounds of shotgun for the main match. Contact me for registration forms. tboggus@hotmail.com

  3. Nah, 9, I'm just still a noob.

I measured the length of my rounds as a preliminary check before starting a reloading session, and they were a little too long. So I twist the CRIMP die down a little and hit the handle again, and waddya know, the OAL doesn't change. So move the crimp die down a little more, and still no change. It wasn't until the round jammed in the die I realized I was adjusting the wrong damn die.

I don't think I had the dies snugged down enough to hold them in place, mainly because I didn't have a one-inch wrench. I have cracked and ordered maintenance kits and bench wrenches from Dillon.

Dillon said they'd take the insert back and dispose of the round. I have considered trying to pull the round out, but I'm too inexperienced to jack around with something with a live round in it.

Thanks to all for their replies.

If its in your crimp die, I would take a brass rob and tap it back out. The crimp die is open on top and you should be able to push it back out the bottom. Its not going to go off. And we were all noobs, once. Been loading nearly 40 years and still feel like a noob, sometimes.

  4. I double checked the shell plate and reduced the clearance off the platform about 1/3 of a turn, readjusted the sizing die to 0.06 off the shell plate from bottoming with all stations loaded.

Boxerglocker, your die is .060 of the shell plate? 60 thousanths? Not that it's your problem but Dillon recommends that it just be touching the shell plate. I'm guessing you meant .006. :)

  5. LeviSS,

I use Redding dies in my Dillons almost exclusively. That is 4 550s and a 650. I would go to the Dillon website and download the manual for the 550 and as it shows how to setup the machine, you will get a better understanding of what dies you will need. Redding sells a series of dies called the Competiton Pro Series, I believe, that is geared toward use in a progressive press. It does not come with expander die.

  6. I thought in CAS/SASS if you moved even a foot while shooting, you are dinged with either a procedural penalty or a stage DQ.

Which again goes back to their demographics....they don't have the knees or the physicality to run and gun.

CAS'ers obviously think they are more politically correct than the rest of us USPSA'ers/IDPA'ers/SC'ers.

More politically correct? Nope. In the beginning of SASS, decisions were made to not allow moving with a cocked, loaded gun. Right, wrong or otherwise, them's the rules. Some of us CAS shooters don't care for them but we have three choices. Live with them, work to change them or leave. I'm sure there are people everywhere who shoot a sport and don't like all the rules. They have the same three options.

For me, CAS is more about the shooting than the costuming. I dress as much as I have to to meet the rules and work hard at my shooting.

Any and all of you are welcome to come on out to any CAS match I am at and I promise you one thing. You WILL have fun! What more can you ask for?
