  1. LPatterson,

Your points are well-taken. I realize WST is not listed as a powder applicable for 9mm but there are shooters out there and on this Forum that are using WST for 9m loads. Perhaps there is a reason they are using it-you would have to ask them. I thought I would give it at try. For some reason 5.3g got stuck in my head and that's what I used. However, I did have enough sense to check with the members of this forum as a safety precaution-there wasn't any way in h*ll that I was going to shoot those bullets in my pistol without checking it out first. Thank you for your comments.

First Winchester does not even list WST as an applicable powder in 9MM. Second WSF which is a slower powder has a max of 4.7 for a 124gr LRN. If you haven't blown the gun up yet then pull all the bullets you have loaded and get a different powder. If you like Winchester then switch to 231 and drop down to about 3.3 to start, listed as 910FPS and slowly work up. If you are going to stick with lead then accept the fact that faster powders are probably going to create more leading as will trying to get much over 1000FPS. The bullet shape may be causing you to have to load that short as I have not found a factory 124/125 shorter than 1.130 which is what I load a G17/26 & XD9 to.

The best source of load data is not what you find that we have listed but what is in a loading manual either by a bullet maker or the powder manufacturer. As you have discovered OAL's can be vastly different from what you are able to use.

  2. To those of you in the Forum using WST: I am trying out some loads with this powder and have a concern. First of all, I have a CZ-75 SP01 Phantom 9mm from CZ Custom Shop which I have fallen in love with. However, these guns apparently need shorter than usual COL's from what I have been reading. I already found that out with a reload that got stuck in the rifling and I had to take it to a gunsmith to get it out. Anyway, I decided to work up loads using 5.3g, 5.5g, and 5.7g of WST. I used a COL of 1.10 for the first batch of 25 and when I tried to cycle them thru the gun, it didn't like them-too long. Reset them to 1.065 and they cycled fine. 5.3g of the WST almost fills the case up to approx 7/8 full. If I am using a COL of 1.065, am I going to have any problems with pressure due to compressed loads? Loads with 5.5g and 5.7g will almost fill the case. Oh yeah, the other variable: I am using 125g LRN's from Missour Bullet Co. Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

  3. When I was shooting IDPA competition this AM, I was showing my new Phantom to another member who has been shooting longer than me-a lot longer. After he looked at the rifling of the barrel he advised me not to shoot lead thru the barrel as a dangerous build-up could occur. The instruction manual advises to shoot only factory ammunition and says nothing about lead bullets. I already loaded some 125g lead bullets to shoot but shot the WWB 115g after hearing this advice. So what is the straight scoop on the CZ SPO1? Is it OK to shoot lead? Yes, I am aware of the warranty!!!

  4. I can get to the order page, select a choice, and then go to the next page with no problem. However, at this page, once I click on "Continue" it takes me back to the Selection page. I quit my virus program and anti-spyware program before trying this, so that rules out those two programs. Anymore suggestions? Thanks
Oops, sorry about that. Moderator, please delete this post. Thanks

  6. I went to Montana Gold to order some bullets and had problems negotiating their website. When I tried to check out the page kept returning to the previous page. I contacted them and got some mumble jumble about checking the settings on my virus control for weaponry. I ended up just faxing them the order form. Is there some secret to ordering from their website? Thanks

  7. I just finished buying a Phantom from Angus at the CZ Custom Shop there in Mesa with some custom work. I plan on shooting 125g LRN (Missouri Bullets) and would like to find a suitable COL for reloading these bullets. Anybody have any experience reloading these bullets? Thanks in advance

  8. Sethmark,

You live in Alpine, Texas? I was born and raised there-now living in El Paso. Does Alpine have IDPA and USPSA matches?

My first full custom limited gun is somewhere between here and Alpine, TX (hint, hint). Just waiting for the call from my FFL that the goodness has arrived. I hate waiting.
  9. I am a newbie and only started shooting seriously back in January, 2008. Within the last two months I have started shooting USPSA, IDPA, and TSA. I figured the more trigger time the better for a beginner. As indicated above I purchased an FN9 (not compact) before I started shooting either IDPA or USPSA. It seems like a good pistol and is accurate. As far as my long term goals are concerned, I really don't have any aspirations of advancing in class-I am a senior citizen. More interested in improving my skills and accuracy in handling a pistol. Maybe with that information I answered my own question as to whether I should seek a more suitable pistol for competition purposes. Any of you ever shot the FN9? Opinions? Thanks

  10. I would suggest the first thing is to separate the brass from the dirt and rocks. Get some type of netting or screening that will let the dirt and smaller rocks fall thru but will trap the brass. You might try Home Depot or Lowe's for this. After that it depends on what you plan on doing with the brass. If you are going to sell it for scrap you might hose it off in a big bucket to clean it up a little. That's about all you can do with the .22 brass anyway. For the brass you are going to keep and reload, trade, or sell, then you will need to sort it by hand or use a sorter found on Dillon, Midway, etc. They go for about $40.00. After you have sorted it then either tumble them or wash them if you don't have a tumbler. Good luck

  11. I read some good reviews for Kead bullets and decided to order some to try them out. Gave him a call today and placed a small order. Talked to him at length about his business and his operation. Great guy to talk to-very knowledgeable. This was before I Googled Kead and found out the negatives. Needless to say I will not be holding my breath to receive my order anytime soon, if at all. He is a one man operation and also works as a deputy parttime for the Dallas Sheriff's Department when they need him. Supplies stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as well as customers in all 48 (50) states. Apparently he was selling bullets via Gunbroker but has several negative feedbacks for not fulfilling orders promptly, if at all. He is no longer selling there. I have had very good success with Missouri Bullet Company-great and very fast service even with my small orders

I ordered 10k from Kead a month ago and now cant get ahold of them ??

They have my CC# and I need bullets now ! Anyone know whats going on with them ??

Phone mailbox is now "full" and no longer excepting messages... :angry2:

  12. Several things:

    1) Welcome to the forum! Feel free to use the search function to find whatever it is that you are looking for!

    2) I have dryfired here and there (alot) and created a thread on the topic CLICK HERE NOOB!

    3) Point two is just a primer. There is much more information here on the forum regarding dryfire.

    Bon chance and good training!

    Pharaoh Bender,

Where can I find the video that you made on dry firing? Thanks for your reply.

  13. I am new to this Forum and to competition shooting and have participated in several IDPA and IPSC matches locally. I would like to improve. Where would I find information on "dry firing" and dry firing drills? Also do I need to live fire to determine the reset point for my trigger? Thanks in advance
