  1. Henning, you mean you are making new rear sights to replace the LPA units on the Elite Match?

Will they be the Supersight style but made to fit the Novak type cut?

What about selling a front and rear sight combo deal.

Thanks for all your hard work on the Tanfoglios!

I'm working on a higher quality rear sight as well. With a set screw for the elevation adjustment etc. It'll be made to match the 0.090" front. The typical front/rear setup will be 0.090" front and 0.110" rear. I like a lot of light so I might make a 0.120" rear as well. We'll see. Biggest thing will be to get a quality front sight. Once the fiber is made I'm considering making up some non-fibers as well in 0.090".

btw. it's nice to have a good machinist, just a pleasure to see the quality of his work.

  2. I assume the gun is a .40? Sounds like it is.

Anyway, I got one of Hennings extended mags for my Elite Match in .40.

The mag tube is a 10mm. This means that the dimensions are maxed out front to back and makes the tolerances very tight in the mag catch area.

The reason for the 10mm tube is that some .40 mags come with a spacer and some do not, whereas 10mm mags come just one way. the 10mm mags also allow you to load out longer (as do the "non-spacer" .40 mags), but I digress.

    When I got the mag from Henning, it was tight to push in and would not drop free. Got on the phone to Henning before I started cutting anything. Here is what you want to do;

Take the slide off the gun and remove the grip panels so you can see what you are doing.

Look through the bottom of the mag well and press the mag catch in. You will see a small pice of the mag catch that is not flush with the frame. That tiny piece that is sticking out is what is causing the friction and grabbing on the mag.

If you have a dremmel, you can vey carefully grind away at the corner that sticks out. Go slow! Check for fit frequently. You don't have to remove much - just make the entire mag catch, WHEN DEPRESSED flush with the inside of the frame.

You will find that once you start, the mag will get looser and easier to remove from the gun, until eventually, it will drop free like the rest of your mags.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Seems Tanfoglio may have been caught up in their own hype? I remember Tanfoglio's being cheaper than CZ's back in the mid 1990's in Australia, and they all ran like tops. I have one of their Elite Matches in .40 and it runs great also. Not bad for $430 here in the US.

I think that the Tanfoglio's are still cheaper here in the US. May just be your market?

  4. Agree. WSF is my powder of choice for .40 S&W.

5.8gr WSF under a 165gr plated Ranier bullet will get you ~175 power factor.

Much less snappier and lower slide velocities thatn Win 231 in comparison...

WSF will get you what you want out of a .40. Max loads for this powder will put you at or above Winchester Ranger defensive ammo speeds.
  5. Back in the early 1990's, when the .40S&W first came out, a lot of the guys running the small frame Tanfoglio's in Australia would shave the followers and dremel out the dimples at the bottom of the mags. A few guys were also making their own base pads. Highest capacity I saw was 16rds.

Of course, I've noted two different .40SW mag variations as well (I have 3 small frame mags sitting around gathering dust).

First type has the dimples at the bottom of the mag, and the second type has no dimples.

Of course, for adding base pads, the non dimpled type would be the way to go. Less work involved!
