  1. Pro Ears makes a couple of behind-the-head muffs in the Predator series. I've got a set

of over the top Predators that I like a lot. One downside for the Predators to be

aware of. The knobs turn really easy---if you don't take them off you WILL accidently

turn them on stuffing them into your bag, running down the EXPENSIVE batteries that

Pro-Ears uses. No idea why they can't use AAA's like most others.

If you have a cowboy action bunch around you anywhere close go to one of their matches.

They all use behind the head muffs. Hard to get a top strap to clear 10 gallons of hat.

They can tell you what works.

At $320 a set, they better stay on my head!!!! I don't think I can afford them at the moment, I've got too many things on my plate. I'll definately keep these in mind, but in the mean time, I guess I'll just have to have people yell at me.

  2. Hey guys,

Great help, I'm still not sure what to do here. To get a custom set of plugs around here isn't that easy, I would have to wait until the next gun show or when a rep comes out to the range. I was wondering the same thing, since I'd be running around for USPSA, would these slip off? I currently shoot L10, but will be building an open gun for both myself and my girlfriend. I gave her my muffs and she wears plugs under them, but can only get minimal protection from them since she's wearing a hat and sunglasses. I wear a big brimmed hat, so as of now, I'm just using plugs.

Does anyone around the SF bay area know of a place I can go get the custom ear plugs made? Any recommendations to brand or models?

    Thanks again for everyone's help!!!

If you don't have a problem wearing ear plugs, you might want to try Ear Pro Sonic Defenders by "Surefire". Check it out! B)

    Hello Len,

I saw those before, but I'm still hesitant on purchasing them. I have absolutely no problem wearing just a set of plugs, but I'm afraid that the actual noise reduction rating is on the lower side. My hearing has been getting worse and worse over the years of poor ear protection choices (or none at all) with the combination of loud cars and guns.

Does anyone know what kind of NRR the custom sets of ear plugs are rated at?

  3. Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone else records themselves during a practice. I'm not sure even if I do what to pick up from the video other then a different view of a bad shooter  . I was talking to my gun guru, and he mentioned that he does it to see what mistakes he makes and where he can shave off time. I'm more then willing to give it a shot, but I have a feeling my mistakes are at a much higher count and I'm not good enough to pick up on times or places for improvement. Any insight?

  4. My three or four year old Radians decided to pack it in at the last match I shot. I really missed the electronics when they died. I've been thinking about the behind the head type as I like to wear large hats also (I don't get along with the sun very well).

I could have sworn I read an article in Front Sight about some electronic IN the ear plugs but can't find it.

Anyway, I was very happy with my over the head Radians, other than the over the head part, LOL!!

I'm in the same boat as you, my current set of Radians worked great for the past two years... I just needed something better before my girlfriend and I head out back to the range. She got burned pretty bad, and has been commenting daily about how dark I've been getting. It's funny, she burns fast, i don't burn at all, but definitely feel like I need a basting between stages to keep the cooking even.

  6. I would think the biggest part of having a custom gun buit would be finding the gunsmith you want to go through. I agree with everyone here, talk to a gunsmith about what you want, and what he can do for you. The main thing with building a gun is the functionality of it. I've learned that the hard way with poor gun choices in the past...

  7. Hey guys,

I am currently looking for a new set of ear muffs to use in USPSA. I needed a set that wraps along the back side of the head instead of the top. I was also hoping for an electronic set, if possible. Does anyone have one they would reccomend? I've been looking around at the local gun stores, and no one seems to stock anyting like this. I'd like to see if I can just get them ordered.

  8. I've ordered a double alpha belt with underbelt (it comes as a kit).

Excellent piece of gear, stiffer than cr speed belt, actually it's so stiff you can use it without the underbelt and still gear doesn't move even under strenous activity.

That was very important for me because I dryfire with my gym pants that doesn't have belt loops.

    Hello,

I'm currently usng a CR Speed and didn't think they got any better until reading this thread. Do you guys happen to know if any of the supporting vendors here sell them? Links? Thanks in advance!

  9. For dust, I have filter on a box fan in my shop, and I actually pour my media back forth between two pans in front of the fan. I wear a respirator and latex gloves for this operation. The dust comes off and sticks to the filter. I do this after every load of brass.

I don't use mineral spirits, but I do use a couple capfulls of automotive antifreeze to charge a new batch of media, and another cap for each batch of shells. The water evaporates, the glycol keeps a tiny bit of liquid in the media, and the small fraction of anticorrosives and waterpump seal lubricants keeps my clean brass from tarnishing. We used a similar set of additiives at Remington (I worked there in the early 1980's) in the final wash and polish of brass prior to loading, and for the same reason.

    Billski

    Billski,

I do have coolant here, premixed, so can I add that with the shells in the tumbler?

    Thanks in advance...

  10. Hey guys,

This is my first post, and I'd like to apologize before hand. I just got a tumbler and will be buying a press soon, but I had a few questions after reading this thread. First off, I got the Dillon polish and walnut media, no fabric softener sheets or mineral oil to add to the batch. I'm at work, and I have the tumbler going right outside the office in the warehouse. There's a TON of ventilation because of what we do here anyway, so I figured I'd leave it out there. Will I need to re-tumble the brass if I add the sheet and the mineral spirit? I'm currently on the second batch, and will bring the sheets and stuff next week to work, but I'm not sure on what to do now. Secondly, I also noticed after the first batch, there was a slight film of something on the casings when I was done. Was this the polish? How do I get this stuff off, or do I need to even worry about it? And where can I get mineral spirits from? I have a body shop next door, and when I asked them, they looked at me like I was crazy...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've learned so much from this site and I'm still on my first day as a member.
