I might be getting an open gun for my wife soon, and it will possibly be from a friend who has an older back up built by Matt Mclearn. In order to lighten it up a bit, I was considering going this route since it currently has a serendipity. Any thoughts or potential problems from those that have made the change? She was shooting production with a sp01 before our baby and is getting anxious to get back out there. Jerry

Hello, I currently shoot a TRP Operator with the full length dust cover in L10 with the Techwell kit. I use the CMC 10 rounders, and have no problem. The Wilson 47DE sits almost flush with it, and I could never feel 100% positive when using them at the range during practice. I never used them during a match since I can't shoot single stack with the TRP anyway. If you are in the SF bay area by chance, you can borrow a couple of mine to try out. I have 12 of them... hahaha Jerry

Hey All, I've been trying to get ahold of Matt McLearn from M2i, but have had absolutely no luck. Does anyone have a different means of getting ahold of him other than what is on his current site? I tried calling him a few times, which is how i was able to get ahold of him before, and there is no e-mail address for him. We are going that route, but with a open gun. This is just temporary until we can get the specifics for her open gun and have it built... I will have to do the dirty deed of breaking it in for her though... Jerry

Thanks for the feedback guys, this is some good stuff. This weekend I'm going to try to overlap a few borrowed Fobus double pouches again, and see if that will work. If it doesn't then I'll bite the bullet and buy the Comp-Tac set up. Does anyone know for sure if this legal for production class? Jerry

Okay, maybe I should explain more... ahahha My girlfriend is shooting a CZ in production class, which means she can only carry 10 rounds in the magazines. Since the gun is brand new, the serrations on the rear of the slide are much sharper then any other gun I've had, but she does not want me to grind them down. To prevent the gun from going into slide lock, we've told her to reload after every array, but many of the practice stages we've built in the past have a 40+ round count with five to six arrays. I don't want her to get into the habit of standing reloads, and she's still trying to get used to the gun, so to make everything easier, I wanted to make sure she has enough ammo and mags to complete the stage (she ran out twice last time and could not finish). Her accuracy is there, especially with steel, but she tends to rush and at times not aim. We practice on a plate rack and she does fine, when she gets to steel in a stage, she takes usually two shots to hit it. Everyone tells her to slow down, but she just gets that "rush" and knows there's a timer going... hahaha. Jerry

Hey Folks, I've been searching high and low for a smaller mag pouch for my girlfriend. We have a hard time with keeping enough magazines on her and the ability to reach them. She is shooting production as of now, and we have been borrowing the Fobus double pouches, but we'd like to get more on her. She can fit two of the double pouches, but squeezing a third on there seems pretty much impossible, and she runs out of magazines on higher round count stages. I tried to fit my CR Speed and Safariland pouches on her, but they don't seem to free up much more space. I got five of the CR Speeds on her, but we are hoping to get seven. I saw pictures and another shooter with some pouches that turned the magazine 90* which made everything more slim, but I have no idea who makes or made them. Does anyone have any other solutions? I was considering cutting the fobus ones and removing the center section, but that's an expensive "test" to run... Jerry

Thanks for the info, I happen to work down the street from a huge trophy shop, so I'll see what they say. I have a TON of mags that need numbering, 10 for myself and 8 for my girlfriend for now... when she gets her open gun and I get whatever it is I decide on, there's gonna be more of them too... damn. Hey Guys, I have found a problem with at least one of my magazines, but I've got 10 that I rotate (I shoot L10). Many of the guys at the range and my "mentor" have told me to label the magazines but permanent markers still come off with ease when I clean them. I clean my magazines after every match with my guns, and it's getting annoying. Has anyone tried to score or use a punch die set to number them? Will this affect the magazine's performance? I was thinking of using a numbered punch set I have at work, and marking them towards the base so the follower does not have to pass it in case I do dent them, but I'm worried if it will cause any other problems. Your input is greatly appreciated... thanks for you help! Jerry

Wow, great information. Werewolf, this is exactly where I am at myself. What part of CA are you from? My girlfriend was lucky enough to shoot one of the RO's open gun at the range when I was helping build a stange, and she's officially in love. I'm int he works to build her one, but I'm also thinking about one for myself as well. I'm still trying to decide if I want an open or limited gun. I am shooting a L10 gun right now, and have been trying different things to shoot with both eyes open, but it's not as easy as I thought it would be. With an open gun I handled (did not get to shoot it, just handled one at my gunsmith's shop) I was able to pick up the sight just as quick if not quicker off index. I can't comment on the recoil, but I've shot compensated guns before... just not a hot round. I'll give it a few more shots, and go from there I guess... Jerry

Yes, I saw these a while back, but wanted electronic muffs. Because I already double plug, I can't seem to hear anything unless I take one of them off. My girlfriend is using the electronic ones I had before....

I had to get my girlfriend one of those grip strengthening tools to help her build up the strength to pull the DA. We'll see what happens at the next practice and match... Jerry

Great find, thanks!!!!!!! My girlfriend is just starting, and she's currently shooting a CZ worked over. The gun shoots great, but like others, she has a hard time pulling the first round in DA and being on target. Jerry

This may not help you at all, but this is my take (another newb) on the factory sights compared to the factory Glock sights. I have a Glock 35 also, and have had nothing but problems with them in terms of mid to long distance accuracy. The three dot system takes me time to differentiate bettwn the two rear and the one front at times. I sometimes have the same problem with my L10 gun (Springfield TRP). I can be more accurate with the Bomar rear and FO front sight because the dot is smaller. The dot does not cover nearly as much of the target, and the FO is easier to pick up quickly. I'm sure there is someone at the local club you shoot at that will let you try out their sights, see if you think you can do better with them. Best of luck, and welcome to the forums!!! Jerry

Thanks for all of your help guys, my girlfriend and I are going to get a camera sometime soon hopefully. We are still trying to get all of the proper gear, and she just bought a CZ, so money is getting tight. At the moment, we are still saving to get a loader, so the camera is next on the list. Instead of getting a cheaper model, we are going to get a fancier one that she picked out. That way we can use it for family stuff as well, and it records directly onto a hard drive. I also need to get a new laptop to have a way to edit the videos... man, this stuff is adding up! Jerry

Thanks for the heads up guys, I'll start picking out the bad apples. As far as I know, they are all either CCI, Federal, or Winchester. I think there's some of the Israel TZZ stuff in the .45, and maybe some Blaser Brass.... we'll see. Thanks again guys. Jerry

Hey guys, I've been saving up and cleaning shells, getting ready to reload. I know that the Blaser shells and the like are not reloadable, but are there any other ones I should stay away from? I've been picking up anything brass at the range, and have been cleaning them non-stop for the past two weeks.... I've got about 3-4 five gallon buckets full of .45, .40, and 9mm. Anything will help, I'm just afraid of the fact that I have to go through each one... Jerry

I have the EP3s and the EP4s and they work very well and would recommend them. My problem is that one ear canal is bigger than the other so I always have problems with the one in the right ear not fitting properly. That's why I'm having custom plugs made. Do you think they are enough to use alone, or would I still need to double up on them? When I was at the doctors years ago, he mentioned I lost a substantial amount of hearing on my left ear. I think it's a combination of years of shooting and cars (through the window). My biggest concern now is any further loss.... I've been wearing plugs for my motorcycle because I noticed them ringing after a few spirited runs.... better start protecting them while they still work! Jerry

Hey Chuck, That's pretty much what I've been doing, but the cheap foam/expandable plugs are annoying after a while, and with the hat(s) I've recently purchased, the "over the head" style muffs won't really work. When I did double plug, I noticed that I was able to concentrate more on the shooting, and was much more comfortable without the muffs on the whole time. We'll see what happens this weekend I guess... thanks for your help everyone! Jerry
