Once again it is OK, with issues.

    1.     First time out the lock, locked the gun up. Would not fire.

    2.     It took 4 tries over 8 weeks to get Springfield to replace the mainspring housing. They sent the wrong part 3 times.

    3.     When correct MSH showed up I had used the time to have a good smith work on the trigger so it was lighter and clean.

    4.     The grip safety with the trigger work and new MSH no longer engages.

    5.     Last, and probably most important is accuracy with all ammo and multiple shooters is crappy.

It should go back to Springfield, and they have offered. But that means they will not let it leave the shop with the GS not engaging, so there probably goes the trigger work. And, I have to take a day off and sit around waiting for return delivery.

Nothing earth shaking, nothing horrible, just all PITAs.

Last, the finish is just cheap looking and the gun has sharp edges all around. I wonder if Springfield would work the exterior? If they do the sharp parts would it require more money to refinish?

  2. I have two Colt Gunsite CCOs that I have carried for a decade. This year I bought a Springfield RO compact so I could get more practice time with a 9 v the recoil of a 45.

It is my understanding that if you say CCO it means that the frame is light with a 4 inch length.

FYI: the Springfield is OK, but I would not buy it again.

  3. I've given up on shooting 45s. I simply cannot get enough practice in before my hands hurt. My 11 year old STI single stack is a cupcake and I can shoot much more and put the time and effort in.

But, if I were given a choice, there is just something about shooting a 1911 in USPSA that just feels right 🙂

  4. I definitely respect classifications, in context.

Got hooked on attending high end classes with name instructors a while back. I don't go to major matches, just spend my money on the classes. For years weather it is pistol or rifle, out of the 25 people in class I would come in 1st to 3rd anytime a clock came out.

I am also the eternal B shooter, If I go to a USPSA match I'll finish dead center, class and overall.

What does this mean....I am not sure 🙂

Reminds me a lot of being in the martial arts for 25 years. Yes, belts and ranks can mean a lot, but only in the specific school within the world of the specific GM you are training under.

  5. I am going to purchase one of the new STIs. Not new to STI, I have an 11 year old single stack and have owned other STI single stacks.

I’ve never owned a double stack STI.  At USPSA matches I see shooters treat their magazines with extreme care: loading at the match, cleaning after each stage, playing with springs.

This will be a carry and outlaw match gun. I am use to abusing magazines, P7s, Colt McCormicks, Glocks etc.

Does anyone have positive or negative experiences with recent STI factory double stacks and how they hold up to being kept loaded etc. Can I trust them?

    Thx

Yes, I'm willing to try getting into 2-gun (rifle and pistol) - now that sounds like fun

I've shot some MultiGun matches (with my Open pistol, only) and that was also fun.

But adding a rifle could be interesting also - I've got to get the rifle out and practice a bit.   :)

Jack how far are you from OKC?

The hold a monthly 2 gun match that is pretty well run.

Generally six stages. Two pistol, two rifle and two combined.

  7. Handled another one yesterday.

Perfect fit for EDC and 15 rounds.

Now PLEASE talk me out of it.

    A. 3K and no division to shoot USPSA in. Limited Minor does not count.

    B. Hard to get practice motivated if I am not competing with the gun.

    C. Already have 55 guns that I can shoot Steel with.

    D. 3K plus + 2 holsters+ 6 mag holders + 4 more mags

    E. It is a lot of money when a Glock 19 also goes bang, just not hopefully as accuractely

    F. It is still 3K plus plus see D.

    thx
