  1. what rhett said: range time & ammo

I'm here to learn more about my soontobearrivingG34, but would add:

I've told many a guy, 'buy a 22LR or conversion instead of fancy gun'. Shoot what ya got and shoot it lots. How many guys i've beat with my Mossberg 590 and they are shooting $1K+ autos. I bet I shot mine more and know how to use it.

  2. ammoguide has some loads for 121 & 122. Some with HS6.

I plan on working 3.8 with V320 at 1.16" at 1030 from a 5.3" G34 barrel (per Quickload) for minor. Can go up to 4.0 before going transonic, supposedly. I need a new supply of V320 before i can verify.

The 115 MG JHP is .55"

Update: 1.16-17" is too long for my Glock mags. They would load/fire a few, but then not feed. Some mags wouldn't even take 2 rounds. I'm going back to 1.14" or so. Any 'sweet length' out there i should know about or is it mostly gun/load/purpose dependant.

  3. I've got about 10K handloads on my 550 in 7 yrs, mostly pistol. Recently it started getting slow & additional tention on up/down strokes. So, I threw some gunlube on it and finished that lot of ammo. Today I went to set up for 9x19 and it kept getting slower and tighter. So I wiped it down and put some grease on it. This made it worse. What have i done and how do i fix it? Got two new 9's coming this week and it is time to tweak out some Minor loads. Thanks in advance.

  4. Having carried a Kahr P40 Covert, i'll looking at closing a deal on a G26. I'm about 6' 1" 225 lbs and could hide larger, but i'm trying to stick with one caliber and one brand. If 11 rounds of 400+ ft/lbs doesn't do the job, i should have brought the 500 Mag! I may consider a G20(SF, hopefully) for an open woods carry at some point too. Would also make a good .40 competition platform...

  5. Open17,

Thanks. Exactly what i need to know. I'm back to looking for a deal on a G34 then. This forum is awesome. I've been reading all day. Good thing the wife left this morning, for a week...

You can put a 9mm conversion barrel in a G35 and shoot 9mm. Some or all of the following may also need to be changed---extractor, ejector, magazines.

You CAN NOT put a 40 cal conversion barrel in a G34 and shoot 40 cal. You could "convert"your G34 to 40 cal with a G35 barrel and a G35 aftermarket slide from Caspian or LoneWolf. You would have to use 40 mags, and might have to change extractor, ejector.

The 35 with the 9mm conversion barrel is not legal in USPSA Production Division, but

probably no one would say anything at the club match level.

  6. Okay. So i have some basic knowledge and have been trying to research. I'd rather get comments/suggestions from those with experience. I'm converting most of my pistol inventory to Glock, to compete. I want the 34/35 size. My major goal is 9mm but i would like the option of .40 as well; likely Storm Lake/Jarvis barrel conversion. Since i'm not a big stock 40 barrel fan, i figured i'd start with 34 & then get a .40 barrel.

-Is it a simple barrel/magazine swap in either direction?

-Is there an advantage to doing one way over the other?

-What about the ejector,? change out?

-Will a barrel swap DQ me for some classes/types of competition?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Agree with 99% of the above. I only starting shooting pistol after i got in the Navy, 95. It was a Beretta 92 and i thought it was great. While working on the range, i saw many Military 1911's show their cons. After some training, my team carried Sig 226 (9mm) and i thought they were awesome (just don't dive them in saltwater). Then we were issued some H&K Mk 23s, incredible. Most accurate pistol, i've shot. I got my own USP FS 45 and loved competing with it in USPSA (stock). Since then i got out of the Nav and was required to carry a G17 overseas doing security work for US Gov. My dad had a G22 and i hated it. I wanted to hate the G17, but it is reliable & accurate enough for combat/mild competition. I've bought Para LDA LTD S/S 16/40 (for sale by the way), H&K Expert in .40, H&K Tactical in .45, Witness 10mm/38S, and i'm selling/sold them all to afford a G34 and dies/components to feed it. I know that is a handfull of guns, but i still shoot about 500+ rounds of 22LR/wk in a 22/45 and reload several thousand rounds (40, 45, 38, 357, 500) yearly. I will get a 22 LR conversion for the G34 and feed it as much as i can. The Glock isn't 'perfection', but it is really close for much less than a competitive 1911 (and some would argue more reliable). I wouldn't shoot 40 in the small frame, but am hoping for a 20SF and 40 conversion barrel for major (or 9x21 barrel maybe). Glock is good, drink the Kool aid. Having said that, Sigs & H&K are still some of my favorites.

  8. Ahhh! Another gun/shooting forum. I'm a US Navy vet who loves to pull some trigger- on almost anything. I've been reloading (+/- 12 calibers; mostly MG pistol) for about 6 yrs and am refocusing on my 'inventory'. Downsizing some may call it. Looking to get back into competition as well. I've had H&K Expert, Para LDA LTD 16/40 S/S, H&K Tactical .45, Sigs, Tanfoglio and then some. After carrying a Glock overseas for 6 years, i'm switching to a 34 (soon). I'm going to start reloading 9mm (cheaper) and try to shoot about 1000 22LR/week for practice. AR & Mossberg 590 are some friends of mine. I look forward to learning & sharing here. Nate
