  1. I finally made up my mind.

I Needed stippers for HM and TO so I bought Six 4 rounders and two 6 rounders and put three 4 rounders on each rig and I can Add a 6 rounder around the side at the hip where it does not restrict movement for bending. So with 9 in the gun @ the beep I have 18 more along for the ride. 27 will get me though most stages and I have an additional 18 rounds

I can carry on a shell belt if needed. plus I put a 2 round safariland in the front so I have a round to top off

the tube once the chamber is full if we get to preload the shotgun and happens to be the first gun I shoot on the stage. I use one of the 2 round Safarilands on my open rig as well so I can top off the magazine after i put one in the pipe before the beep.

I used this set up in Holmen last Sun and It worked out great.

    Thanks for all the insight.

  2. I have gone back and forth and can't decide what to use 4 or 6 round strippers for the SG

I can usually load 4 without dropping one .

I shoot Tac Ops with a 1100 Tac and HM w/ a Super Nova no pistol grip on either so far .

I have been loading strong hand by rolling the gun to the side .

I have tried the Week hand load and it does not feel natural to me .

Any advice and video clips would be great.

  3. Just picked up a couple of the LR 308's in 24 SS bull

    The first 308 is a tack driver. today w/ the Custom comp 168's and 42.2 2520 3 shot @ 100 = .33 in

but with the Rolling thunder brake installed.

    Thats the good news

Bad news is function is less than 70 %

The I am getting FTF bolt sticks open 1/8 in and To get it out I have to smack the but stock down on the bench and the weight of the Bolt extracts it .

I checked all the rounds that were stuck and most of them passed the dillon case gauge. there was a couple that stuck out the bottom .0005 from the high platform.

The Fired cases are rough as well .

I did manage a few rapid fire stings but overall not good.

The chamber is rough as a cob . What is your advice on chamber polishing ?

The Second one the chamber is so rough I only fired 3 rounds 2 of them had the rim pulled off

so I had to knock them out with a cleaning rod.

Should I try to polish it or send it to DPMS

I am afraid to ask them quessing the will want them back and screw up the Accuracy on the good one .

    What Say you ..... ?

JonF has given me solid info and advice on my lr308. Like kilo said they do require lots of oil in the beginning and yes some polishing may be necessary. Just make sure your lr is cleaned well and super wet. And more creds to kilo for advising on the DPMS forums, have been on their forums for a months now.

the model is a LR-308 caliber 308 (stamped on the lower)

I see no markings on the barrel, i'll remove the sight and handguard and look for markings.....

    this model....

I am not the original owner, so I am unsure of the break in or care of the rifle, prior to my owning it.

I will clean it again thoroughly and look at getting an adjustable gas block... and inspect the chamber as best I can,

I need to get the appropriate tools to remove the barrel...

I may just turn it into a 7mm-08, I'd just like to get it functioning correctly first...

I had similar problems with my DPMS LR308. Stuck cases, bullets jammed into the throat...I eventually decided that it had a short throat that caused excessive pressure and the function problems.

I returned the rifle to DPMS for repair. They said they had feeding problems and replaced the magazine. I had never had, nor did I ever report any feeding issues.

Funny thing is that the rifle now works like it should. I suspect that they fixed the short throat, and simply couldn't bring themselves to admit to a quality control issue. Rather than admit that their throating reamer wore out prematurely, they appear to have fixed my rifle and lied about it. I no longer have the rifling engraved on bullets of rounds that have been chambered but not fired.

Whereas I'm happy that the rifle runs normally now, I am very disappointed in being treated like I'm too stupid to recognize that they fixed the precise issue I complained about. It makes me not trust them anymore.

You might want to check for a short throat...my rifle also ripped the rim off cases that were stuck in the chamber before the rifle was returned...it hasn't happened since I got the rifle back...what would you think?

chpprgy, FYI and consideration, I had the same issue, extractor ripping case rims off, with my DPMS LR 308. However, it would only do it with reloads, never with new US made or US MilSup ammo. I installed an adj gas block and started using a small base resizing die on the cases I reload and shoot in the LR 308, After that the problem went away with one exception. When using Federal small based sized cases it would still sometimes rip a rim off. I have been told that Federal brass is soft (could be an issue with your brass/ammo also)and I may not be getting a true SB sized case when I process it. The alleged brass softness may have been affecting the rate and amount of case spring back, causing the case remain sealed to the chamber longer after firing. Now I only use small based sized LC and Win Brass when reloading for this rifle. I was also told, when I purchased the rifle, that DPMS 308 chambers are on the small end of the tolerance scale.

I had the same problems with my DPMS 16" 308 AP4, tried all the fixes: polish chamber, adj gas block, heavy buffer, AR carbine buffer tube and spring, moved gas port to mid length, and various combinations. Had some improvement but still had issues. I built another one with 762 chamber and it runs great.

Got me thinking so I finally checked the chamber in the problem gun and it closed on the no-go gauge. So I sent it off to very knowledgeable gun smith, to get the actual chamber dimensions and have it reset to 762. Still waiting on its return. Will advise.

Suggest you check your chamber with a set of gauges.

All the early DPMS guns of this type where made in 308, now DPMS only offers it in 762. They used to offer a 762 reamer to improve reliability with surplus ammo. They no longer offer the reamer, nor will they redo a 308 chamber to 762, based on a phon con I had with them about a year ago.

  4. I would like to pass along my experience with the Ruger 556 so far .

Out of the box ( nice packaging , Nice case ) I liked what I saw.

I gave it a bath and a good once over. My first disappointment was the

upper to lower fit was very sloppy , for being built by Ruger from the ground up I expected

a nice tight or at least snug fit. I was happy with the rest of the fit and finish.

Before I even fired the first round I reconfigured it to my favorite accessories

    and a new Nightforce NSX 2.5 x 10 x 32 I was itching to mount,

I chose my favorite high 30 mm rings from TSR " W " that are just high enough

to accommodate the nice Iron sights Ruger includes , under the scope for backup.

I also installed US optics fold away sprit level , Power custom Oversize mag release,

Ace Socom 4 long stock, Daniels Defense 1 o'clock mount and a burris Fastfire II,

a Versapod picatiny stud w/ a bench rest model that adjusts from 7 to 9 inches,

I installed the rail protectors of which one was missing ( Ruger was quick to send a replacement )

and Graphite forward pistol grip by SOG Armory from Brownelles

and I swapped out the Hogue grip for my favorite Ergo grip,

and Last but not least a DPMS / Miculek muzzle brake. Removing the factory flash

hider was tougher than I expected . Ruger customer service recommended

a spanner wrench. I clamped hard on the bbl with a rubber padded insert

made from conveyor belting and not having a spanner wrench of the correct size

I wrapped it with GO rilla tape ( 4 layers ) and grabbed my trusty Ridgid pipe wrench and

and gave steady pressure till it came loose. ( whew ) and once the tape

was removed and a little WD 40 to get the tape goo of i was pleased to see

    not even a scratch.

Oh I almost forgot a Jard 3# trigger to replace the 12+ pound factory trigger.

My first time out to the back yard only gives me 25 yards to get close

on the settings for both the NSX and the FFII

it ran fine for 10 rounds , so off to clean it up during the bbl break-in period.

My first trip to the real range had me thinking I would like to wrap it around a tree

as the first 8 rounds I tried went " Click "

I thought maybe a problem with the trigger or light hammer strikes as there was barely a dimple

in the primmer . So I swapped the lower for another and found the same issue.

My next thought turned to the Firing pin and wondered if it was gummed up.

Yup that was it, it was so stiff It took my leatherman to get it out and I

found what ever Ruger packed in there was like glue in the 28 Degree F Morning here

in Northern WI so after I cleaned it up and a few Qtips with RemOil I was back in business.

I fine tuned the scope @ 100 and

shot a quick 5 shot group @ 100, about an inch.

The new velocity reticle from Nightforce has a top crosshair for 100

the center for 200 and then 300 out to 600 and halfway hashmarks in between

as well, plus instant windage marks to boot. ( SWEET )

    http://www.nightforceoptics.com/RETICLES_O...l.html#velocity

I called Nightforce CS before I ordered and double checked the recommended reticle selection

for my favorite load ( 50 Gr. Vmax or Sierra BK over 24.2 Gr of H322 = 3140 fps )

I also found the slick program right on there web site to help in choosing the right

    reticle.

I engaged the 300 yard target by raising up to the 300 yard mark

and fired a quick string of 9 shots . The scope is crystal clear and

the 3.75 in red dot I was shooting @ was easy to see and easy to hold

for a good release using the Versapod in front, and my fist under the pistol

grip for rear support. I was very pleased to see the group when I drove down to the target.

2.3 in for 9 shots ( this happened to be the sierra's but I get great results with both. )\

Looks like a keeper so far.

Any ??? drop me a note

    What do you use ????

How do you use it ????

I got the Idea from MR. Burkett

    Thanks for your help

My main rifle practice comes from having a 10-22 setup with the same scope etc. as my JP-15. I use 10 of those MGM auto poppers of different shapes from 40-90 yards. I have 10 Butler Creek 25 rounders and their loader. In a one hour practice session I shoot about 1,000 rounds from standing and kneeling. Rarely do I practice supported or prone with the .22. Sometimes I will work to and from a table top or some sort of vertical support on the range.

With the JP-15 I only shoot about 100 rounds per session in conjunction with the 10-22. Will time myself to see the difference in speed between the two to make sure that there isn't a huge disparity happening.

Nice thing is its cheap and doesn't take that long. Usually my annual goal is 40-60 sessions.

    Hope that helps.

    Matt Burkett

  6. Currently loading 5.7 Red Dot under a Berry's 185 gr HBRN plated for my 625.

Loading 4.1 Solo 1000 under a 230 Bear Creek RN for Single Stack, and I REALLY

like the load! Have a 8 lb jug of S1000.

Getting low on Red Dot, and it's time to dust off the wheelgun. Anybody tried

Solo 1000 with the Berry's 185? Looks like 5.3 or so to start, and then work up.

But is it clean in a revolver? Anybody tried it?

    Solo 1000 is great stuff

Get it while its still cheap.

    I use it for 45 40 and 38 spl

  7. I finished my set up last night

Careful set up with a Case gage took a while but it is a sweet setup .

Station 1 Hornady FL size and deprime with expnder ball reduced to .219 so it will help sraighten out and dented case mouthes but just lightly pass through on the way out to avoid stretching the shoulder ( Dillon Recommended ) .'''

    Station 2 and 3 empty

    Station 4 Trimmer

    Works smooth as butter.

I stated with Cleaned OFB and in less than and hour proccesed over 1000 rounds .

I will run them through the swager and then polish and back to the 650 to fill em up. :)

  8. I have an 07 New style 2500 HD Duramax Crew and bettween 48 gallons of extra fuel in an Aux tank in the box and 2 highlift jacks and tools and a chain saw ext. and 450 lbs of Steel Bars for traction in the very back of the box, it weights @ 9980 Lbs

62 mph flat and smooth 23.2 highway limited stops

    62 Average rural highway 19 to 20

    72 interstate 18.9

with 35 ft 5th wheel that is 13 feet tall and weighs 14,000 lbs

    @ 62 = 13.9

    @ 72 = 11.6 interstate

I am very happy with it lots of power for up over hills and mountains.

  9. I have the dillon 1200 b trimer and I am just starting that same type of set up

I called dillon and they recommended the same set up as you described .

I asked about the second posts idea and he said you can do it either way.

I felt it was better to size and de-prime in 1 and trim in 3 because there is always

a small amount of case stretch durring the draw out of the expander ball .

His response was to skip the expander ball altogether.

    Who else has tried this.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    SWandME

ps the idea to put the decap die in 1 on the loading head seems like a great idea to me as well.

another post recommended a neck size die in 1 with a decap pin and do it a second time to be sure there is not dents

durring the banging around in the case feeder.

  10. I Have a Springfield National Match Stainless bbl and a poly tech I bought about the same time 12 years ago

    Both do very very well

The Springfield shoots 1.55 " @ 100 with my reloads using Bulk 165 Grn Remington Corelock Bullets

    and AA 2520

The Poly Tech shoots best w/ 168 Gr Sierra BTHP Match Same Charge of 2520 and does 1.75 @ 100

I had Trigger work done to both , The SA is still a much nicer trigger and a lot better looking.

But @ 1/2 the Price it is not to bad.

    I use SA 3 Rd Gen 7.62 4x14 x 56 Rangefinding scopes on both.

and they both function great with the New Mil Spec mags I use.

    Hope this helps
