  1. I installed the Vicker's Ext. magazine release and man did it make a difference. I'll assume it's IDPA legal for CDP? :rolleyes:

    After ~ 500 rds. of practice ammo and one IDPA 90 round classifier, the Crayola is holding up just fine. :)

    I shot my CDP classifier with it this past weekend and it was only the third trip to the range with my 21SF. I shot my SSP classifier first with my G19 and retained my Expert status, then I got on my new Comp-Tac gear and much heavier magazines to shoot my CDP class. I was very pleased with way it handled, so much so that I am no longer a CDP SS, I moved to EX! I've given serious thought to shooting ESP with it, but there's no way I can keep my G34 in the safe. ;)

  2. "What powder for 147gr precision delta 9mm?"

    Alliant American Select.

    As they advertise....Ultra Clean Burning.

    Fills the case up.

    I just switched from using Berry's 124 RNDS to Berry's 147 RNDS bullets. I prefer the "pulse" recoil as to the "snappy" recoil I get with the 124's. My 124's were making 134,000 PF out of my G34 and the 147's are making ~132,000 PF out of the same gun.

    Berry's 147 RNDS

    CCI 500 or WSP

    Mixed brass

    3.3 gr AAS

    1.142" OAL

    Avg. 900 fps or 132,300 PF

  3. Finally got to test some 147 gr. loads today.

    03-17-10

    Temp. : 75 deg.

    Humidity : 25%

    GLOCK 34

    Berry's 147 gr.

    CCI 500's

    Alliant American Select : 3.2-3.4 gr

    COAL : 1.140"

    Case : All FC once fired nickel.

    I made 30 rds. on my 550B. Checked powder drops were 3.2-3.4 gr.

    Chrono'd via a CHRONY Beta M. 10' from the muzzel to the front of the chrono. I know, it should be to the center of the chrono, but what the hell. Here's the data.

    (String 1)

    1 = 892

    2 = 912

    3 = 924

    4 = 902

    5 = 895

    (String 2)

    1 = 892

    2 = 902

    3 = 891

    4 = 902

    5 = 907

    Of course the first thing you notice is the softer/push recoil. I'm use to shooting 124's at 135 PF so these suckers were a treat to pull the trigger on. :) Super accurate, all ten rounds in a 1" shoot-n-see dot at 10 yards. Looks like I need to load up the rest of the 250 rd. box I got and try them in match now.

  4. Dillon case gages for the WIN!

    I case gage everything I reload which currently is only 9mm, 45ACP, & 223.

    I too have found the occasional split case but most of the time when one does not fit it's due to a rim bur.

    Last week I cranked out 1100 9mm rds. I was about half way through and one dropped way down in the gage.

    Gotta love those Makarov cases!!! :goof:

  5. Thanks a lot for the data!

    I have been shooting 124 gr. Berry's for the past two years out of my Glocks. Before Berry's, (2008) I shot nothing but 124 gr. Montana Golds. Recently I picked up one of the 250 rd. boxes of 147 gr. Berry's while at Cabela's. I wanted to make up some test loads to see if I would like the 147's better than the 124's. Due to the cold weather, I've decided to put off making the 147 test loads until it warms up, besides I have several thousand of the 124's to use up anyway.

    I have used nothing but Alliant American Select for the past two years for my 9mm loads. Most folks say "what powder" when I tell them that to which I point out that the reason I tried AAS was due to the fact it was the best powder to use for "Accuracy" according to Sierra's reloading manual when loading 124 gr. bullets. Also, it's a "Ultra Clean" burning powder which I agree with compared to some powders. American select also fills the case very well. If for some reason I forgot to turn the wheel on my 550B, a double charged case would overflow whereas using Titegroup I might not notice. Don't get me wrong, I love TG also but prefer AAS.

    When the warm weather gets here, I'll put up some of my own data for the 147's.

    Oh BTW, I envy you going the S&W Indoor, I would have loved to went but the funds got diverted for another project. :rolleyes:

    American Select®

    Premium ultra-clean smokeless shotshell powder

    Our newest "ultra clean" burning premium powder makes a versatile target load and superior 1-oz. load for improving clay target scores.

    Great for Cowboy Action handgun loading, too!

    Designed for 12 gauge target loads

    Optimal recoil and patterns

    Great pistol powder, too.

    Yes it's a shotshell powder but it's all I use for 9mm.

  7. Well, I finally got my Warren Tact. sights in the mail today and finished my G21SF.

    Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. (See pics below.)

    List:

    1) Ghost 3.5# Connector.

    2) $0.25 Trigger job.

    3) WOLF Extra Power Trigger Spring.

    4) WOLF Reduced Power Safety Plunger Spring.

    5) Warren Tactical Rear w/ FO Front Sight.

    6) Custom Crayola (White) slide bling. LOL!

    7) Extended Slide Release.

    I tried and extended magazine release, but found that I preferred the OEM one.

    I still need to order a holster but can't make up my mind on whether to get a

    belt or another paddle holster. It will be a Comp-Tac, I just need to decide.

    Oh yeah and at least another 4-6 magazines. :D

    CDP division...HERE I COME! :devil:

  8. I plan to buy a Comp-Tac holster for a Glock 21 SF that will be used to shoot CDP division in IDPA but I cannot decide on which one. I've used nothing but Blade-Tech paddle holsters in the past, so help me out here if you have any experience with the following holsters from Comp-Tac.

    Belt Holster

    $68.00

    Paddle Holster

    $57.50

    Locking Paddle

    $84.00

    Thanks. :)

  9. I load the Berry's 200 gr. FP bullets over 6.0 gr. Unique for all my 1911 pistols and they work great. I tried to shoot some in my Glock 36 and they would jam on the end of the short feed ramp. You might want to try a few first and function check them in your G 21 before you load up a lot of them. My G36 has to have round nose bullets to function properly. It doesn't like the Speer Gold Dot loads either because of the big hole in the end will hang occassionally. Try a few and see how they work, and go from there.

    What's your COAL for the 200 gr. Berry's FP?

  10. I recently got a Glock 21SF and plan to load Berry's 200gr. FP for it to make power factor for CDP in IDPA. I've loaded thousands of 230 gr. RN and Montana Gold 200 gr. JFP's with good results. The Montana Gold 200 gr. JFP's are similar to the Berry's but the Berry's are a little shorter than the MG's. Looking at my Sierra RL manual, the Sierra's appear to be a better match to the Berry's 200 gr. FP's so I plan to start there with their data. I would like to see any info. or data that anyone else has had with the Berry's 200 gr. FP's and possibly using them in a Glock 21 or 21SF.

    I load the MG 200 gr. JFP's to a COAL of 1.20" and they worked great in the Glock 21SF. Due to the shorter Berry's bullet, it looks like the COAL will be around 1.55" if I stick with Sierra's data.

  11. There was one instance in 2008 when we shot the Postal Match and there was a stage you had to shoot using your left had only (which is my weak hand) and my 34 locked back with one round still in the magazine. We're still trying to figure that one out due to the slide release being on the left side. I just don't see how I could have touched the slide release shooting left handed.

    Extended slide stops have a nasty tendency to bounce up, from their own greater than stock weight, in recoil and lock open the action with rounds still in the magazine. Admittedly more a problem in 1911s that Glocks, it sounds to me like the way recoil travels through your arms and body when firing LHO makes that heavy slide stop do something then that it doesn't do when firing freestyle with two hands on the gun.

    I tried putting the Ext. slide stop on my son's G17 but his fingers are long and he tends to press his thumb(s) against the stop, so he would typically run his blaster empty and snap on an empty chamber before realizing that "oops, that was 11 rds!", then have to do a mag change and rack the slide to chamber another. He still has it happen from time to time with the regular slide stop. I can't count how many times this past year a confused SO would look at him and ask "what the hell happened there?"

    After much research, I think that I will give Comp-Tac a try this time for a paddle holster for my G21SF. I just recently got their M-Tac for my CCW an love it. Seeing as how I'm use to the Warren Tactical w/ FO front sight setup on my G34, I'll probably just stay with that sight setup for the G21SF. As for the connector, as long as I get a Glock 3.5#, then I can still shoot the 21SF in SSP if for some reason I decide to. :rolleyes:

    When I did the $.25 trigger job on my son's G17, I originally polished all the affected parts as well as the stock 5.5# connector. Yes I said 5.5#, for some reason he wanted to keep the 5.5# connector instead of replacing it with the 3.5# one. After about a month I dropped in the un-polished 3.5# and didn't tell him and he loved it. It's hard to describe but by polishing all the parts except the connector surface, it made for a very nice crisp trigger. So next time you do a $.25 trigger job try it, I plan to with the new 21SF.

  12. The factory Glock extended magazine release button for service/compact/sub-compact sized Glocks is the button that comes in the Glock 21 (and non-ambi button 21 SFs). It's just that when it's installed in the narrower frames it protrudes significantly. There is no equivalently longer button for the large frame Glocks.

    That's what I thought, but thanks for the conformation.

    I strongly suggest losing the idea of the extended slide release. If you shoot with a high grip - and you should - eventually you're going to find the heel of your hand, pressing up on the extended lever, causing the action to lock open with rounds still in the magazine. Those extended slide releases are just malfunctions waiting to happen.

    I don't have any issues with the Ext. slide releases on my G19, G17, or G34 due to having smaller hands. That's why I got the SF model of the 21.

    Thanks for all the replies.

  13. Picked up a new G21SF w/ Glock Rail & Single Mag. release using my GSSF certificate. Sorry no pics...camera is DOA.

    I plan to use this pistol for shooting CDP division in IDPA and wanted opinions on upgrades for this purpose. For the last couple of years I have shot a G34/$.25 Trigger Job/Warren Tactical Sights with FO front sight/ and True-Grip tape. I love this setup and would like to continue with a similar config. but without the True-Grip Tape.

    So, an Ext. Slide and Mag. release (Is the Ext. Mag. release already standard on the G21SF?) / Glock 3.5 lb. connector / and Warren Tactical sights looks like what I need, but I am up for other suggestions. If anyone else is using a G21SF for CDP in IDPA.....what if any mods have you made?

    Oh before I forget, what holster would you guys recommend? I use Blade-Techs Paddle holsters currently but was thinking about trying one of Comp-Tac's Paddel holsters.

    Thanks.

  14. My son and I both have used these boots for the past two years. Composite toe for a little lightweight protection and they are very cool and comfortable in the summer.

    policestuff_2073_217134675.gif

    http://www.lapolicegear.com/coc86mecotoe.html

    Features:

    ASTM F2413-05 Composite Safety Toe

    Lightweight and flexible

    Removable FootForce Comfort Insole with arch support and heel stabilizer

    Dual density ball and heel cushions

    Built in Converse Shock Eliminator

    High abrasion slip-resistant and non-marking dual density trail outsole

    Besides, they're Cons man, what could be more cooler? :rolleyes:

  15. The lead vs jacketed question I have is, which type provides better velocity assuming the same load for each and the only difference is the type of bullet being used.

    From my experience, I get faster FPS using Berry's bullets vs Jacketed. I always thought it should be the other way and you would get higher velocities with a Jacketed bullet.

    Last year I loaded 124gr Mont. Golds using the same charge that I have been using this year for 124gr Berry's and I get at least 40-50 FPS more with the Berry's.

  16. I had a lot of trouble with my Pact XP. Bought it new from Cabela's in 2006. It worked about half the time right out of the box. I called PACT and was told I needed to download new software for it. ???? Well after about two years of pissin with it I decided to call Cabela's and complain. They took it back, refunded my $$$, and I bought a Chrony Beta Master and haven't looked back since. Overcast, rain, you name it, the Chrony works everytime.

  17. Thanks for the response.

    How about the factory extended slide release that comes on the G34. Is it still legal for ESP with that on the pistol?

    Same deal applies to the slide lock. Some have put the slide lock on only to take it off later because they found that they were bumping it up while shooting. A Glock usually drops it's own slide if you reload forcefully.

    I've kept mine on my 34 but my son had to take it off his 17. He still bumps it and almost always has a dry fire during a stage. It took me forever to get him to use the proper thumb over thumb method when he was a little younger and then wouldn't you know it, he got bigger and so did his hands! LOL!

    At our local range's IDPA event last month, he got some advice from a well known shooter (Ken Hackathorn) about how to change his hold on the pistol to stop the unwanted slide releases. Since he won't listen to dad, maybe he'll take Ken's advice. :mellow:

    Thanks for the reply.

  18. Bob

    You can use the Glock factory extended magazine release in any Glock in any division. The same goes for the grip tape, it is legal for all divisions.

    Thanks for the response.

    How about the factory extended slide release that comes on the G34. Is it still legal for ESP with that on the pistol?

  19. My son and I both use the extended mag release. Of course my 34 came with it, but we installed one on his 17. I have the "Vickers" extended mag. release on my G19.

    My question is the factory extended mag release legal for ESP division? I ask this due to the "permitted mods" section for ESP and rule number 9.

    PERMITTED Modifications (Inclusive list):

    1. Sights to another notch and post type (see “sights” in

    glossary for further information).

    Modifications.

    Also, I have TrueGrip tape on my 34. Can I still use it for ESP? I thought someone told me last year the grip tape was not allowed in ESP.

  20. I see that you too are bored when you start timing yourself doing a repair. LOL!

    I think that I'm starting to get a little cabin fever myself. R.D. and I have'nt shot our pistols in over a month. We had planned to attend the first match at Rayner's, but he was pretty sick so we decided not to go. We are looking forward to the matches there in March though.

    Just this Wed. I could'nt take it anymore and went over to a friends house to shoot some clay pigeons. It was 55 deg. and sunny and we had a blast.

    My G34 has approx. 10K on it now and I have yet to replace any internal parts. I do have a couple trigger springs so I might just go ahead swap that out to be on the safe side. :rolleyes:

    Cool post Bill, keep-em coming! :cheers:
