  1. BTW, does anyone know what caused Lee Dimaculangan to get DQ'd? I was very surprised to see that.

That was a mistake in the final reporting. Lee was not DQ'ed. He was bumped to open for grip tape on the trigger guard. It has been changed on the score sheet. The change is not up yet. But it has been brought up to Manny, so it will get done. I was the RM, I did not see the final results untill I got home.

I had a great time. It would have been better if I spoke about 5 languages. There was about 150 foren shooters. The countries that were represented that I know of were, Jamaca, Barbados, Brazil, Russa, Ukraine, Germany and the Czech Republic. There might have been more but I am not sure. According to what Frank told me about a few of the production shooters, they will be fighting for the top spot at the World shoot!

  2. Ok a very good friend of mine told me about this and I told him that he should have received a reshoot, but want to verify.

He made ready and at the stop realized his hammer spring broke and never fired a shot, he was given a zero with no time written down. no mikes, no procedurals, nothing.

I was under the interpretation that if there is no or incorrect score, that's a re-shoot.

    comments?

You can stand down up untill the start signal. If you are loading and you find your gun broke, you have not started yet. "Are you ready" is a question, just reply NO. If pressed, just keep replying no. Eventually the RO should figure out you are not ready and tell you to ULSC and go fix your gun.

  3. The new rule book defines Facing Uprange in the glossary.

Facing Uprange . . . . . . . .Face and feet pointing straight Uprange with shoulders parallel to the 90-degree median intercept of the backstop.

Does this apply to ALL COF's or just Classifiers?

I really don't wan't to get into a rules discussion, lest it go south. This is more of an "enforcement" discussion. :)

I just want to know the answer to this 1 question.

If it applies to ALL COF's then I think more RO's need to pay closer attention to this fact. We've had this new rulebook now for more than 2 years. A start position is non-negotiable. It should be enforced by a diligent RO, end of story.

Otherwise it's fate lies in the hands of the stage designer. When a stage designer writes in any walk-thru "standing in box, facing uprange" then this absolute definition of facing uprange comes into effect. Right?

Maybe a stage designer could get away with something else, like "back to targets" or "facing away from targets". But other than that the stipulation would apply.

Short answer is Yep! It aplies to all COF's if that is what the walkthrougs says is the start position.

  4. Hey, don't get me wrong. I completely agree with you. My comment was basically what you said - without the history. I had heard that, and being i'm just looking at current rules, I couldn't find it - and if IT WAS a rule - it's long since gone.

My post was simply playing contrarian to a stage designer that believed this is a legal stage, and how many different ways it wasn't. My comments about it being a "cool" idea would be for something of a side match. It has no place in USPSA for competition.

Many years ago, when certain rules in fact read differently concerning targets - AND, the scoring lines (A-B-C-D) were commonly printed on BOTH sides of the targets (i.e., white and tan sides) - I did design several stages along a "Friend or Foe" concept. The target presentations were always symetrical so as to ensure everyone had the same challenge ... The difference being that one did not know whether white/tan was friend/foe or foe/friend until after the start signal. IF there were still scoring zones printed on the white sides of the targets, I THINK one could still get away with this - given the wording of 4.1.2 ... However: Given the engrained mindset in our sport of White=NS, I suspect it could be argued those shooting white foe / tan friend would be at a slight disadvantage to those shooting the traditional way.

I don't think so, 4.1.2.1 says that the scoring paper must be a typical cardboad color.

  5. Linda is correct on this.

Rules 2.1.2 and 2.1.4 dictate safe angles of fire. If the club decides that is is unsafe to shoot into the sides,(mabye that berm is low, has too many rocks) there is nothing to prevent this. When you shoot indoors you can not sfely shoot into a wall. There is nothing in the rules to say you must allow it. It makes it a litle harder to do course design but thats all.

    Tom

Sorry Tom, you're a bit off on this one. 2.1.2 and 2.1.4 cover construction of the stage, not competitor actions. If the club sets up the course to not allow the shooter to shoot at the side berms, maybe covering the wall or berm in no shoots, but the competitor still shoots there, there is no DQ. I mean intentionally, not an AD while loading or moving, just a plain shot. While the course design should take these angles into account, there is no rule allowing for a penalty if the shooter doesn't. Some clubs try to enforce this by saying a shot into the sideberm is a DQ. There is nothing to support that absent something else occurring.

I don't see anywhere I said anything about competitor actions. 2.1.2 and 2.1.4 only deals with setting up the course. If the club has a policy against shooting in a side wall. there is nothing in the rules to prevent it. I said nothing about DQ'ing anyone. I was only addressing a "local" rule.

As far as the local rules go, I hate to say it but I'd rather have fewer clubs abiding by the rules than more clubs doing what they want. This is a topic that has come up several times in my area. There are some clubs that have legitimate desires to restrict shooter actions. Unfortunately I can't support some of the solutions they want to use.

In this case, I don't really see anything that goes against the rules to do group bagging/unbagging. I think it's a rather silly way to go about business but I don't know that it isn't allowed either. The question I would ask is what they would do if you just tried walking around with your gun holstered. Would they DQ you for something? Or would they just ask you to leave the range and not come back.

As far as USPSA needing clubs more than clubs need USPSA. There are a lot of intangible benefits clubs get from USPSA that go beyond money. Most clubs I know have active shooters that provide a great deal of service to the host club, new props, targets, maintanence, enthusiastic support, publicity from media... Even beyond this we provide a basis for many ranges to justify their existence. In some jurisdictions a club with no LE and no Competitions occurring is viewed unfavorably.

TDZ. If you think clubs are just going to do what we say because we say it...well good luck with that. Every good USPSA club requires someone to be in contact with the host club. Explaining what we do, why we do it and why the rules need to be followed. There are reasons for all the rules. Explain why they should be followed. If we take the "stick your head in the sand" or "take my ball and go home" approach we will be short clubs to shoot at.

  7. In the rule book look under definations, "droped gun" you will find this;

    Dropped Gun . . . . . . . . . . .(during the course of fire) Acondition in which a competitor

loses control of their handgun. Loss of control

does not require the handgun to land on the ground or

other range surface or prop. It occurs anytime the

handgun is no longer in control of either hand, even if

it is trapped against part of the body or caught in midair.

the last sentence is the reason it is a DQ.
